Here something fun:

What were you doing/do you remember doing during each Smash trailer.

Lucina and Robin: stayed up to watch it and ate pizza

Cloud: I had only one class that day to teach in the afternoon so I spent the morning fangasiming. It was like Christmas. And the next day I went to America with my wife to attend my sisters wedding. So I watched it again when I arrived.

Corrin and Bayonetta: watched it in the morning while on my way to work. I stopped at a supermarket parking.

Lucina and Robin: I think either the reveal was too late for me to stay up and watch or I overslept. Either way, I woke up and immediately checked the website and saw Robin all over the place. At the time, I was campaigning super hard for Lucina. On these boards there was kinda a friendly little feud I recall between the various FE support groups, and I was really adamant against Robin and Anna getting in over Lucina. Well, I saw Robin and was super bummed out and didn't even bother watching the trailer then. I went and did some other stuff then came back and looked at the website again figuring 'may as well see what he looks like' and saw Lucina's tiny little newcomer box and paused for a moment in disbelief. I immediately went and watched the damn video like I should have done to start and lost my **** when Lucina's splash screen came up. Didn't even care that she was a clone or that Robin was the spotlight or that Captain Falcon was revealed too, that made my day. then i went and argued against everyone who thought she was a costume

Cloud: I was in my anatomy class when the direct was on, watching with a single earbud as discreetly from my spot in the classroom as possible with my friend who isn't really a Final Fantasy fan and is more a casual Smash player. When Cloud showed up I had to hold in the biggest "WHAT THE ****" i've ever experienced, and was probably in a daze for the rest of the day

Corrin and Bayonetta: Watched with my two best friends, one of them a big bayonetta fan and the other a big FE fan like me. When Corrin came on I wasn't really excited since Fates wasn't even out yet, so I had no attachment to anyone, but I was still surprised. And for Bayo, we were all shocked that she made it in let alone won the ballot

How is it not relevant? Once again it's more relevant than series getting in (Castlevania), characters getting in (King K. Rool) and some of the most predicted characters (Geno & Isaac). It's way more relevant than any of those.

Relevancy clearly doesn't matter this time around, in fact I'd say popularity and fan demand matters more and so if you're point was RH wasn't popular enough, then hey at least that's a point worth arguing. But the series is way more relevant than what's being talked about in this current speculation period.



All this and I'm not even a fan of Rhythm Heaven lol.

I' agree with you in almost everything. But I think RH is as Irrelevant as every other character you mentionet here. There is no comparision between RH and K.Rool.
Both are irrelevant. And that is what I've said in my first post about this. EVERY CHARACTER that enters in the roster right now IS irrelevant to nintendo as a Whole, because all REAL rrelevant 1st party are already there. And right now they are adding popular characters.

Is not like Karate joe/Chorus Kids is more important than Geno or Skull Kid, or K.Roll. ALL OF THEM are kinda of not a big deal in relevance.

Toon Zelda, Toon Sheik, Dixie and Alph all were at one point or another intended to be in a Smash game as playable characters as well, but were haven't seen any sign of these in Ultimate with the exception of Alph who still remains an alt costume despite how relatively easy it would be to promote him in Ultimate. Being planned for Smash 4 does not at all guarantee they will be playable in Ultimate, especially since the roster direction for Ultimate is dramatically different from Smash 4's.

I didn't realize Alph was already confirmed as an alternate costume again. I figured with all these echoes, another Pikmin protagonist would be turned into an echo using different Pikmin. Give both red/yellow/blue Pikmin, but differentiate Olimar with purple and white Pikmin from Alph with rock and flying Pikmin. Change up a few other attributes a la Mario/Dr. Mario and bam. New character.

I got Simon, Richter, K. Rool as well as Pokemon Trainer and Young Link back. I'm fine with whatever we get for the rest of this game. Bring on the Bandanna Dee or any other character I don't necessarily want.

I feel the same way. After having every character return plus the most requested newcomers(even if I don't especially want any of them) and most importantly, Roy is back, I'm basically happy with anyone we get at this point.

Sonic: I forgot

Smash 4: I stayed up to watch it and couldn’t fall asleep due to hype.

Rosalina: Stayed up to watch it next to our Christmas tree.

Little Mac: my wedding anniversary date. I watched it before I left to hand in our marriage documents.

Greninja: I forgot but I remember watching it by myself.

E3 2014: Stayed up to watch it. But my laptop broke half way.

Smash Ultimate Inkling: randomly visited Smashboards to find out I was a mod again. That led me find the trailer.

E3 2018: went to bed at 10 and woke up at 1 to watch it on mute. Didn’t want to wake up the baby.

Smash Ultimate Direct: Watched it in Australia while working as a chaperone for our students study abroad trip. Had crap internet at the hotel and took forever to watch it fully. K Rool was spoiled for me on this thread after I went in safari intending to search on how to make internet in Australia go faster. But opening Safari made this thread popped up and the first thing I saw was “KING K ROOOL!”

9/7/2018: we never did see it but it was scheduled for 7 am here. Plus, I had an office day so basically I could spend some of my day speculating and hyping with the rest of you. Was planning to watch it in the office lobby while drinking some coffee and eating a doughnut.

I'm doing this **** green text style because that's the easiest way to do it for me.

I remember my internet acting up after "Everyone is Here!" trailer. I was so happy and hyped that every veteran was returning, I couldn't wait until whole trailer loading so I looked up to the newcomers from the Wiki. I was so disappointed.

Etika's Mewtwo reaction feels overdramatic to me, honestly.

Max's Cloud reaction was great because it came from a genuine FF7 fanboy and it's also one of the very few to actually recognize the character from the music alone.

Then I guess the next thing is to say RH is a big deal compared to the other franchises not represented?

Like when looking at the list of series that aren't yet represented it's one of the few that is successful and had a game within the last two years. (ARMS being too recent).

So maybe that's my point??? Like yeah compared to Mario/Pokemon/Zelda/most series represented. But compared to Golden Sun....and others that I can't think of because they're that irrelevant. Sorry Chibi-robo I love you my small good son

Honestly I think the real issue is that Karate Joe and the Chorus Kids are nowhere near as popular as any of the unique newcomers and definitely wouldn't be anywhere close to being perceived as "hype" among the general Smash fanbase. Since the big trend with all the non-echo newcomers is how much of a hype bringer they are, comparing a Rhythm Heaven character to someone like K. Rool or Simon (or even Isaac) makes no real sense. They're more comparable to Savvy Stylist in the sense that whilst they have recency on their side, both of them are low in popularity.

*Smash Brothers Battle Style
*Summoning Optional (Pokeball/Assist Trophies)
*Themes can be: Sony, Microsoft, Sega, Anime, Specific Game series (like Final Fantasy, Wild Arms, or Tales Of...), Comics, or Movies (Non-Superhero)
*A max of 3 'Guest' characters outside your chosen Theme allowed

Hi all. It's been a while.

I've recently had the opportunity to play the Smash Bros. Ultimate demo. I've posted my impressions on Twitter but I suppose I could head over here and post them as well.

Without further ado...

1. The game feels much like a spiced-up version of Smash 3DS/Wii U. It's a bit faster paced, flashier and, most importantly, feels like a new game, although similarities to previous Smash Bros. games are obviously inevitable.
2. Ganondorf is amazing. He's got improved speed and his sword Smash attacks are very satisfying to land. The up Smash is slower but has crazy range and power. Of the three new Smash attacks, the down Smash feels the closest to the previous games in frame data and execution.
3. Air dodges still work somewhat similarly to the previous game, but you can't spam them as much regardless if you do a directional air dodge or not,
4. Smash attacks can be charged for much longer. That was one of the big differences I've noticed while playing.
5. Ganondorf is amazing. His up tilt is faster, you know.
6. Snake is definitely one of the most fun characters. I was surprised by his improved speed.
7. If you think the stages look beautiful in screenshots and videos, you haven't seen them in game. They look incredible and only playing the game will really make you appreciate the effort in remaking all the stages in HD.
8. The Smart Bomb item no longer damages yourself if you throw it at someone. This makes it a much safer item to use. Not sure how teammates are affected by this, though.
9. Even if a lot of characters might still feel like how they played in the last game (speed, pacing and balancing adjustments notwithstanding), the new animations and other aesthetic revamps will still make them feel fresh. Mario is a good example of this.
10. Did I mention that Ganondorf felt amazing to play as?

I like Etika but his reactions are way to over dramatic. All he does is yell the characters name over and over again with the occasional "This can't be happening" "No one saw this coming" "my boy" or "baby girl".

Etika is fine as a streamer and in making rumor videos but when it comes to his reactions, especially smash, and his drama with other youtubers, it's made me not a fan of his.
