Every time a fake leak is posted on 4chan Sakurai pushes the direct back another week as punishment

Reminder about what Vergeben has said if anyone needs a refresher:

• Minecraft content is in the game, most likely as a stage
• Isabelle and Ken are in, both presumably as echo fighters
• A 7th Gen Pokemon that is not Decidueye or Lycanroc is in
• A 2nd Square Enix owned character is in. This could be characters like Geno, Sora, or Slime from Dragon Quest, among others.

Also, what Vergeben has gotten right so far:

• Ridley, Ice Climbers, Snake, and Simon Belmont are in the game
• No cuts from Smash 4
• After E3, Vergeben claimed that at least six newcomers were left. We saw five during the Smash Direct and, with another one on the way this direct most likely, that makes this claim true.
• Vergeben also claimed that Mimikyu was not the Gen 7 Pokemon either. This was confirmed when Mimikyu was revealed as a Pokeball summon.

Regarding the Gen 7 Pokemon, So are we just assuming its going to be a starter Pokemon because of popularity? Example: Incineroar in the anime is hot right now (hehe), So it HAS to be them?

If I may play devil's advocate, what if this is our dark horse? What if Sakurai is really going down the villain route in picking some characters? Maybe we could have a legend join Mewtwo among the ranks.

Maybe the Pokemon rep is another trainer to RIVAL Pokemon Trainer?

Professor Kukui with some Pokemon?
Guzma with Golisopod?

Just throwing some ideas out.

Absolutely. Speaking of hybrid clones (your avatar reminded me) Dixie is another good example of how cool this concept could be if they continue down this road. Her having some of DK's moves would be very fitting imo, like his up-B and cargo grab for example (while the rest of her moveset could still be echoing Diddy's).

You could probably create a Dixie Kong echo fighter if you really went far down the road of borrowing animations from various characters, like using Greninja's Up-Tilt or Mega Man's Dash Attack.

The "Pokemon slot" has become more of an advertisement for marketability than anything else in recent times, so I don't see anything but the tippity top of popularity and TPC pushing making it in.

It's a system, but it's not as loud (or violent) as it used to be. You'll be able to find molten craters of comments in the Wii U/3DS era in these videos here.

You know what, just put any video's comments from that time on display, there's bound to be bias accusations somewhere in there.

Yeah I agree with you. I just hope we have something unique for the Poke Rep. Like Hau could come out and do a Z-Move pose to help initiate said Pokemon's Final Smash.

I know people love to make the whole "Smash is what PSASBR should've been" jokes, but damn...if Smash actually got the character that was supposed to be DLC for that game, but got cancelled, that'd be pretty sad, not gonna lie.

Minecraft is a Microsoft property. If Sakurai were to go through the trouble of meeting up with Microsoft he wouldn't just ask for some trivial Minecraft content he'll ask for a heavily requested character that is also Microsoft property. Banjo Kazooie.

That leaves two more characters.

That leaves one character left that he doesn't know and honestly 4 more unique characters is what I expect.

That Geno mentality I feel is exactly along the lines of some things I saw regarding different potential Pokémon considering the Gematsu leak. It didn't turn out pretty for those people.
SE has a wide breadth of characters that are currently being promoted and used, and not to mention extremely iconic and considered fan favorites. I think Geno is likely for this game, but like I said before, do not say anyone is a lock or guaranteed.
For all we know, they could've just reused the license to keep him as a costume, or he may very well be a character. Who knows at this point.
I personally think he has a good chance to be a character, and if he's not in the base game, he most likely has a shot at DLC. But the "God, help anyone who thinks otherwise" is an extremely flawed mentality.

Also Minecraft has nothing to do with Banjo, outside of them being both owned by Microsoft. Getting the license and copyright from one subsidiary doesn't equate to someone from another automatically getting in.

It boils down to the fact that Sakurai going to Microsoft to get Minecraft, a series that while popular is mostly reviled by the Smash fandom, but not Banjo-Kazooie, one of the longtime fan desires, is almost too cruel of a reality to imagine. It's, in theory, a quick step from one to the other, but the grim possibility of ONLY getting Minecraft is too harrowing to believe it will come to pass.

That’d be really funny, had the game for 6 years.

“New Nintendo Direct” Sakurai comes on and everyone thinks it’s a new smash or a huge update and it’s like “here’s the direct from late 2018 that was pushed back”

Didn’t Smash getting both Mega Man and Cloud basically kill that entire fandom? I remember people basically throwing up thier hands in the air and saying “that’s it, Smash won” when Mega Man got in. And even more so with Cloud (though the game was basically dead at that point).

Getting Crash, Spyro, or Lara would be like over-over-over kill for them. Which kind of interests me as I want Smash to transition from a Nintendo game about Nintendo games to a Nintendo game about the history of games. That’s why I want to see notes gaming icons like Master Chief, Crash, Scorpion, and even Goku if it means catapulting Smash to the greatest media crossover the world has ever seen.

You must be talking about the Sakurai Whisperer. There are many pretenders but very few if any actual practitioners left within this world. They say that masters of this craft but understood the mind of Sakurai and perfectly interpret it simply from his hand gestures and heads nods. They didnt just know Sakurai, they were more or less Sakurai.

Basically, I didn’t want to repeat that because it’s obvious and we even talked about the drought to death too.

I actually forgot about the Direct, that’s just how badly Nintendo handled the delay. It’s been 5 days since the incident and it’s most likely that the damage has been greatly restored at this point, not to mention it’s nearing a week since the initial announcement of the direct, and we got nothing yet. I understand that with the sudden change of plans, there needed to be some time to rework the changes, but come on, not saying anything after 5 days is infuriating and is going to anger people when there isn’t any update on what’s going on despite it being long after the incident which mostly likely has been dealt with.

That's not how common sense works when you have virtually unproven evidence.
It's a theory by definition. It's not entirely proven but there's enough support to have it recognized.

If Sakurai got Minecraft content, that in no way, shape, or form means he got Banjo+Kazooie content as well.


You're assuming under the logic that if Microsoft turned him down for BK but approved Minecraft that Sakurai would have turned around and left, which doesn't seem like him at all.

Not to say that I don't want it to happen, but optimism on your level is something I think is best tempered.

You're asking for the results a hypothetical situation that we don't know if it had or hadn't happened. It's not correct to assume that it was fact that in that situation the deal given was played out in a specific order of series licences. A better argument would to use the various fanpolls where Banjo outweighed Minecraft in terms of votes and compare them to suggest which scenario is more likely than another rather than to state it like it was factual. Until we get the Smash Ballot, or if we even get it because we know it's rigged for Bayo and will probably never come out, we can't prove anything until someone's confirmed or the results come out.
