Also indie scene is already repped in Smash through an Assist Trophy, a Trophy, IIRC music. I'd love to hear why we need a character to represent the scene and why Shantae of all characters would be the best pick to fit the decades-worth history of the ENTIRE indie scene.

So??? Lara Croft was made by an American developer, and she is now owned by Square, But that doesn't make her a Japanese character. The same logic can be said for Steve. He started out as an indie rep. Microsoft buying Mojang doesn't remove that status. I'd argue that he's still an indie character. If anything, his affiliation with a major studio makes him more likely than Shantae.
