We actually don't know if they were ever planned at all. We only have Gematsu for that, but we know they a playable icon in the data, for the series itself.

Karate Joe is just as believable in the first place. Also, it could've been a cut due to having trouble making the rhythm gameplay work right.

I don't know. Sakurai had couldn't make Heihachi work and he never made it onto the games' files. I think 3ds limitations is the more likely explanation.

Is this thread still on life support? Or is there finally something that we're talking about?

We've got nothing. I think we'll have to wait for tomorrow, I don't think Nintendo will announce anything on the weekend.

Well, here's what I said to a question similar to this but asked for 3 characters.

1: Phosphora
2: Monster Hunter hunter (better than MvC's)
3: KI's Medusa (prefer her to not be an echo, but wouldn't mind either way)
4: Dr. Eggman (guilty interest).

I really have no other character interest at all (at least at this time), I apologize that it wasn't the full 10.

Most of these characters aren't very likely save for a few, but I still support them nonetheless.

No more, no less.

Rhythm-based gameplay might be hard to translate with 3DS limitations as well, but it doesn't really mean it was Chorus Kids either. The only two things that point to Chorus Kids is Gematsu and that having 3 active large models onscreen at once could be a problem for the 3DS. They aren't the only possible option, as any RH character could've been planned. Whether or not the 3DS affected them is impossible to say.

In one of Sakurai’s famitsu articles during Smash 4, Sakurai talks about some characters he previously considered.

He considered adding Heihachi Mishima, however he couldn’t find a way to translate his moveset over to Smash’s environment, so he didn’t go further.

That part wasn't aimed at you, I included your quote as to answer where Heihachi was considered. As for Ryu, we don't know for sure what his status was for the base game as Sakurai never commented about it and there was no data before 1.0.6 indicating him, but I would bet he was a character in heavy consideration or even planned for the base game, but got pushed back because Sakurai was already including a Capcom newcomer and obviously Mega Man would be prioritized.

MegaMan and Ryu are also licensed from different companies overall, so that could be part of the priority. Maybe he wanted more MegaMan content over Street Fighter content overall. Etc.

But yeah, I think him being considered for the base has some logic to it. Let me find the article, as he spoke on the mechanics and such beforehand. I thought he was noted as considered for base roster too, but I can't remember, honestly.

I went through Hurricane Maria last year and it was one of the scariest experiences I've had. Really wouldn't wish it on anyone else...

We tried that. There's no point in keeping a leak thread when there is literally thousands of them and none of them are entirely convincing. Not even Vergeben is 100% believable.

And then there was the leak group in the Smash For days that got way way WAY too toxic. Trust me. Not having a leak thread is probably for the best.

Ridley back in Brawl was essentially Dyna Blade in a Ridley skin, they could certainly recreate Ridley's Brawl boss fight except as the character the boss fight actually fits.
