Official Smash Ultimate Discussion

Almost one month has passed since release. In retrospect....

  • This is by far the best Smash ever. Like, I don't even know how they will top this.

  • Pretty freakin' good; I have a few qualms over things like internet play, balancing issues, etc.

  • It's ok, but [insert Smash game here] is better.

  • I'd rather play Parcheesi.

This hasn't been posted here, but it's confirmed that the next Famitsu magazine will likely have Smash Brothers in it. No emergency reprints.

I'm linking to the 4chan thread discussing it, so here it is.

I'd agree if the saves were local back-up, but it being cloud-based means it would be on servers ran by Nintendo, right? There'd be no way for people to access them like that.
I am not an expert with those things so I can't really answer, but Nintendo must have a reason to only block mutliplayer games, isn't like the Switch quit easy to hack or somethin'?

This. Sorry to all the FE fans, but Lucina just feels completely redundant. I get she probably didn't take much Dev time, but it definitely oversaturates the series
Nah.

We should keep Lucina and cut Marth. fite me.

There's a very specific exploit that uses a defect in hardware from launch-day models that has been fixed. Plus, Nintendo's been working in the background to put in anti-cheat stuff to detect if a system is using it and banning Switches at a hardware level. It will eventually not really be an issue, from what I've read.

Cloud saves shouldn't cause problems for these games. Many, many services such as Steam allow back-ups for games like these and work perfectly fine. There really doesn't seem to be much excuse for this.

The Ace Attorney presentation is going to be 40 minutes of merchandise you'll never buy, plus a port of the original trilogy tacked on at the end to satisfy people expecting an actual game. That's what always happens with these "unmissable" announcements. :p

I'm definitely not saying this just so that I don't get my hopes up too high

Y'know, I would be perturbed about the whole cloud saves thing, but honestly, I've just come to the decision that it's not worth being urked about, because people are already still buying the Switch in droves and these problems don't usually get fixed until later on. Look how long it took for region locking to become free. Once Pokemon comes, people are gonna forget about this, and once Smash comes, people are gonna put this under the rug completely.

All I want is just consistency and openness at the end of the day.

Also hey, Civilization is coming to Switch. Doesn't seem that big of an announcement, considering reviews are mixed on Steam, anyways.

Oh good, so by the end of the weekend, we'll likely have some smash news then. Hopefully it isn't a retread of what we already know lol. We might need some Suicide Prevention personnel if it turns out its just about K Rool, Dark Samus, Chrom, and the Belmonts.

I think F corrin is really cool tbh, I mean, I understand disliking the character because of the game. However save for that, Corrin feels completely unique from every other Fire Emblem character in the game. Sort of even using a lance in one move. I take her over Lucina and Chrom any time.
What about Male Corrin?

I am still on the boat if the whole of the "Hint" was in the same vein as the supposed "K.Rool" one, then it would be more likely that Chibi Robo would be the character that got in.
Chibi Robo would be interesting for sure.

Just read that. Dark Souls won't either.

I really hate to be negative, but man Nintendo, you're reaaallllly dropping the ball here. At this rate, it really is just a paygate to Splatoon 2, ARMS and Smash. That's really disappointing. :(
Nintendo dropping the ball with online? Say it isn't so...

It's not like they always have or anything. :p

But both of those games have perfectly fine gameplay...

Both SoV and Genealogy are divisive as far as gameplay is concerned. It's far from unanimous, especially since both suffer from oversized maps that are either mostly barren and all Routs (SoV) or are so exceedingly large that it invalidates all non-mounted characters, and even then movement is a chore (Genealogy).

Both are very much love-it-or-hate-it as far as gameplay is concerned.
Nah.

Cutting Marth is a sin that I will not allow.

I kind of think if the next reveal isn't Skull Kid, his chances are dead in the water, same with a Gen 7 mon.

I could of course be wrong, but that's my gut.
I think a Pokémon can still happen next month, the only time I don't see it happening is in November as Let's Go will come out, and although it wouldn't exactly be bad publicity or anything I think they'd prefer to have people focus on something other than Gen 7 at that point. If it happens this month or the next it'd be like Gen 7's last hurrah, if it happens in November it'd just be slightly awkward (especially as a last reveal sort of thing).

Skull Kid will take a bit of a hit though, if only because I feel that it'd disprove some of the more out there theories, like the chairs thing. It could still happen, but I feel like his chances are riding a lot on the momentum of the last Direct.

The paid online service's benefits could literally be a pile of **** and I'd still pay for it because Smash is Smash. However, it sucks immensely for those on the fence.

When does Famitsu typically leak actually?
Either Famitsu will leak/release and reveal most, if not all of Nintendo Direct information alongside Sakurai's column (likely about the contents of the Direct), or the Direct will pre-empt it.

Place your bets folks! Nintendo or Famitsu! Who'll reveal the information first!

My money's on Famitsu, which typically leaks a day or two early. It releases on Monday in Japan, or Sunday for us.

Surprise Nintendo Direct tomorrow maybe?

I'm not convinced. It's a old magazine. The release date, and the date for the Famitsu doesn't quite match up. Release date says August 30. But Famitsu says 13th September.

Somewhere out there on this big blue marble
I'm assuming it's on weekends since it's the time when the magazines arrive to their destinations, i could be wrong tho.
This is gonna be a long weekend then.
ANOTHER QUESTION! Does anyone know if the previous batches of Smash info went in to detail in Famitsu like "This is Ridley from the Metroid series and these are his special moves!" or something?

I'm really wondering if Incineroar is the last character.

Given that Sun/Moon wasn't out yet, it couldn't have been decided on as early as the rest of the roster.

I'll definitely pay for it due to the price being cheap and my desire to keep playing Splatoon 2. It just stinks that my save will constantly be in risk of being lost if anything happens to my Switch. I have not heard great things about Nintendo's ability to recover data and transfer it to a new Switch, so if anything happens, I'm most likely screwed. :/

I'm more surprised that people expected better of Nintendo in terms of an online service, the price is at least nicer than PSN etc.

Hopefully the online virtual console stuff is cool because playing some of those old school games online might actually be rad.

Users are saying it's an older edition (last week's with Sakurai's article). Is that true?

Want to confirm before I get my hopes up for a possible leak

Edit: Checking myself I am very confused. Clearly says 9/13 but that it released in August ? Also 9/13 is the American way to show dates isn't it? But there's no 13th month lol.

Both of the companies publishing Famitsu are nowhere near Kyoto, so it's really a toss-up at this point.

But then what about the people over there in Japan that still don't have electricity to watch it? I think the better question is that how Japan is at the current moment after being swept with a typhoon and earthquake and is everyone good enough for Nintendo to green light the Direct.

Yeah I've always had low expectations since time has proven online and Nintendo aren't the best pals.

That is old news.

Famitsu issues are dated two weeks ahead. This is for example, the issue for "September 20th":

Easy, have the people gather up in the safer areas.

On that note, have they found those 32 missing people yet? It would be nice if they could minimize any more casualties...

This seems to be the truth, but Famitsu leak will happen soon and it will likely contain Smash Bros. information regardless.

Can someone more experienced with Famitsu and Japan speak more about this? Venus of the Desert Bloom Venus of the Desert Bloom or PushDustIn PushDustIn maybe?

I'm not paying for Switch online until the full NES game list is out and we have confirmation that other consoles are coming.

I will pay $20 annually for a Netflix-style Virtual Console, but as someone who doesn't do Online gaming much if at all, there's nothing they're offering that convinces me to pay.

Plus I believe I heard the Fortnite and Paladins devs say their games won't use the subscription, and I think there's one more game I'm forgetting about that will still have free online next month.

If famitsu is going to have an entire section on smash bros, maybe it'll have a larger presence in the direct?

Having access to the original Mario Bros. games and Zelda 1 would be cool, at least. I'll take what I can get at this point, lol.

I don't think they are online right now, so let me explain. I'm not experienced with Japan, but basically, Famitsu coloums will release 2 weeks ahead. So for example let's say the coloum is September 13th. It will be released on August 30th. Which already happened.

Only way the coloum can be leaked is if someone manages to collect that magazine.
