I would say Castlevania, like Darkstalkers, is a horror themed game, not a horror game.

He could still be an echo, that's why they have created them to please a lot of fans without spending too much man of hours/ ressource for characters. To be honest I don't see Geno as a brand new character but an echo ala Chrom, even he is a long time fans favorite he has really no future. King K rool maybe could have been an echo too but he has moveset in his mind for a brand new comer.

But I wonder if fans will be ok with him as an echo seeing some don't want dixie to be an echo of diddy.

In the days of the NES, Castlevania would have been classified as a Horror game, I believe, so Simon kinda counts.
Remember that genre definitions change over the years, after all, Beat-Em-Ups like Final Fight were once classified as Fighting games before Street Fighter II popularized it's style and imitators/those inspired by it ended up changing the definition.

We have yet to see cross-series echoes, so I really doubt we're going to have another Falcondorf scenario.

And no, I don't think a lot of people are going to be OK with one of the most wanted newcomers since pre-Brawl being relegated to an alternate costume with flashy effects.

I would personally argue Metroid being kind of horror granted its more Sci-Fi but influence definitely did come from the Alien franchise especially being Ridley was named after director Ridley Scott.

Street Fighter now has 36 songs, but most likely there are going to be repeats (like how in Smash For there were 3 versions of Ryu and Ken Theme).
