I'm curious but, it feels like people are pretty sure we aren't going to get Monster Hunter as a playable character even with Rathalos as a boss and a Monster Hunter 'stage' (which it remains to be seen if it's a legit stage or something for the mode specifically). Is it that people straight up don't think we're getting them in or is it that nobody is really talking about it because there's no "credible" leaks claiming Monster Hunter at the moment?

I mean... to me it feels like right now MonHun is.. pretty likely. Unless people are assuming Rathalos is just being a "Capcom Boss" but that feels weird they'd choose Rath to be a boss for Megaman and Ryu.

I think it boils down to the fact that we've never seen a new franchise in Smash before their playable character shows up, if they have one.


Why WOULD you show off Rathalos and Monster Hunter separately? There's just not a lot of sense to it, to be utterly frank.

Word choice and a relentless aggression to make your point known. You come off as condescending, even if you aren’t. You also seem like you ignore due process and simply stick to your gut feeling. Not a flaw in life, but it is a flaw in debates centered on reason. Gut feelings are not logical reasons.

It has less to do with whether you’re wrong or right and more to do with your persistent defiance of each leak, even though we’re trying to let you know, we agree that it’s more likely to be fake. But again, that’s not a conclusion, it’s an assumption. Assumptions are not what we’re here for, even if they end up being correct. Due process for these leaks is putting them on trial, ignoring our feelings and focusing on what facts we can find.

In the face of all that and the effort these folks put in to verify or debunk a leak, you tell them it’s dumb to even do so and assume they put too much stake in it. And that....is neither helpful nor pleasant.

Monster Hunter has nothing to do with Mega Man and Ryu. Not every character has a boss assigned.

I was a big fan of Nook getting in back then, and I kind of went into denial mode when he was seen in the background of some stage (Brawl had an animal crossing stage? Didn't remember that)

That hard deconfirms them.

Had they been a character choice, they definitely would've been revealed alongside their homestage and boss.

Hmm. Rayman being a trophy just randomly in SSB4 with no Ubisoft playable character/AT is just as weird, and that happened.

I suppose that's a good point, but at this point we also know that Sakurai is having a blast toying with people so, it's hard to say. All I know is... I need December to hurry up because knowing that there aren't going to be any hidden characters this time around (unless Sakurai is being an evil genius claiming that so nobody will believe leaks of unannounced characters) is getting me super antsy.

Alright, guess the cats out of the bag, so I'll break kayfabe ONCE. I usually swap in and out of posting stuff that I would type and sometimes type posts in a comedic way like Scott. In the end, since he does gaming content very well, he's the only person really that I push hard whenever I get the chance to, and he really has some JonTron-level of meme content you can find on his channel, and highly recommend supporting him. His videos on Nintendo Direct leaks are a good start, given the current climate!

After some time I figured to give in the whole Scott the Woz image for the people of Smashboards and I'm really happy more people are watching him.
I'm mainly just some dude who directs meme projects and loves Smash and ****, but I'm glad I can every now and then channel Scott for y'all.

What surprises me the most about that leak is that we'd be getting two brand new characters, and 0 Echo fighters.


There are obviously still more echoes to be revealed, I think this is a VERY safe assumption, so when will we get them is the question?

I wouldn't really be surprised, I can see it that Echo reveals are saved for Smash Directs and being revealed alongside a full-fledged newcomer like Lucina and Richter were, while this Direct leak, if true, wouldn't have a section dedicated to Smash information to merit Echoes being shown off.

I'm not sure Capcom would be ok if there is just a rathalos boss/assist and a stage in this smash bros game to be honest.

3rd Party characters are KIND of a big deal when it comes to Smash, what you're suggesting is Sakurai effectively going:


"This is Wily's Castle. Here, the Yellow Devil appears as a boss." Without MegaMan showing up as playable.

I don't think it's going to be a stage. There were tons of areas in SSE that were nothing like any of the stages in Brawl

If we're thinking Spirits mode is going to even faintly be similar to SSE, it's areas could be unique.

They didn’t know if they were gonna be able to fit Monster Hunter in on time, ended up not being able to do so, but Rathalos isn’t a character(easier to program) so they had time for him. He’s DLC.

And Gillybal is the first revealed Pokémon of Gen 8.....

Closest thing I can think of that was similar is ROB being shown off as generic mook in SSE before he was revealed as a playable character.

The point is everything is possible in this game, when you have a lot of third party involved with a new contract for a smash bros game is not that easy. "everyone is here" not because of sakurai but because third party was ok with the new contract.

"If a character’s publisher requests something specific of us or puts limitations on our use, we have to acquiesce and do it right by them – no matter the cost. It’s pretty difficult to coordinate and adjust contracts; production is kind of an excruciating process! In fact, we only barely got permission for everybody that’s appearing in Ultimate!"

It's like saying dixie should has been showed in the last direct with king k rool because now it will not happened, we dunno what was planned with this smash bros game so you could be right and I could be right but I think we are jumping to conlusion a little bit quicker than we should.

Let's keep DLC and base game speculation separate... it's too messy otherwise. They have different considerations and things that make a character likely for base don't make them likely for DLC and vice versa.

Maybe Sakurai is playing 4-dimensional chess here. Maybe he knows that if he shows off Rathalos, we'll all think it deconfirms a Monster Hunter fighter. Then when he does show him off...bam! We're twice as surprised as we would be!
