Yeah, but Rowlet and Decidueye are different Pokemon

Edit: Like, Blastoise is my favorite Pokemon and I'm not just happy with getting Squirtle in Smash because they are different Pokemon.

What surprises me the most about that leak is that we'd be getting two brand new characters, and 0 Echo fighters.


There are obviously still more echoes to be revealed, I think this is a VERY safe assumption, so when will we get them is the question?

Its also interesting because a lot of people are taking it as a given that Felix comes as a package deal with Isaac ever since Richter reveal.

Getting Incineroar would bum me out to no end if the rest of the roster wasn't killing it, so I'm mollified. Can't win em all.

The Pokemon Company and Gamefreak probably have a huge hand on who gets in, but I imagine Sakurai has a lot of say as well. This is just speculation, but I imagine it'd go something like this. TPC/GF show Sakurai concept art of Pokemon they want to promote (XY didn't have a lot, so let's just say it was Grenja/Delphox/Chesnaught). Then Sakurai picks the one he thinks would make the most interesting fighter (Greninja for his water shuriken and katanas).

In the case of S/M, I imagine they'd show Sakurai a list that looks more like Decidueye/Incineroar/Primarina/Lycanroc/Type: Null/Kommo-o/Tapu Koko/Nihilego. Three of them are starters, one is pushed as "Gen 7's Lucario", one of them is a psuedo-legendary, and the other three were all tied to the S/M's story.

Again this is all just speculation, but I always got the impression from the Greninja interview that Sakurai had more say then just "which single Pokemon does TPC want to push the most". It's a collaboration, and ultimately, Sakurai is going to pick what he thinks will be best for his game. If he thinks Incineroar will be the most interesting or unique fighter, he'll probably go with that. If not, it'll be something else. But we can't be so confident it's just going to be the one mon TPC pushes the hardest, especially if we can't even agree with ourselves if that's Incineroar or Lycanroc.

Here, I'm going to attack this from my own knowledge and logical standpoint.

We have damn good reason to believe Vergeben has good sources. From the beginning, we knew this was the guy that once said the TMNT would be in Injustice 2. How would you even GUESS that? And that's not the only example.

Now, nobody is going to get everything from good sources 100% of the time, and nobody not in the know is going to know EVERYTHING. But the information is out there; somebody is going to get it.

What makes Vergeben stand out among the other "text leaks" is that it's not Anonymous. Anyone can make a fake leak, but who's really willing to stake their name on it? Not only that, all of the information Vergeben HAS presented has been accurate so far.

And he's picky. He's heard it's not Decidueye or Lycanroc, but he's been unwilling to say "it's Incineroar" because it's only been from one source. He waits until he's heard it from MULTIPLE sources; he's, at least, a LITTLE cautious. Any leaker that wants to be serious about Smash leaks HAS to be; people pay more attention to Smash leaks than any other video game out there (besides maybe Pokemon?).

That's why I am, so far, willing to put stock in his information; much moreso than any other leaker we've seen.

Edit: Actually someone else tweeted that and he just retweeted it.

I see that guy used my Ken icon, my Shadow Icon and splat 's edit of my Isaac icon.

Also... I have some things to say regarding Skull Kid: He was not "highly requested", at least not during the Ballot when fan requests actually mattered.

Skull Kid's support shot up after the 8/8 direct, the one poll where he scored highly around that time was apparently botted to hell and back.

You know who consistently did well on exit polls during the ballot (in the west)? Returning Veterans, Inklings, K. Rool and Isaac. Shantae, Shovel Knight and Banjo & Kazooie also did well around that time, but they're all third party.

You know who we've gotten so far in terms of 1st Party characters? Returning Veterans, Inkling, Ridley and K. Rool. Ridley was an infamous long-time fan request and Sakurai was well aware of his popularity in America.

I think part of the reason that Shovel Knight is an assist trophy this time is due to a very specific factor. Shovel Knight had one game (and still has one game); for all Sakurai knows, Shovel Knight will be a one-hit wonder and fade into obscurity after the hype dies down.

Oh man, I went to check out if Skull Kid was popular in the Brawl days. And his thread wasn't actually that big. The current thread is significantly bigger.

1) LOL, I made an argument how the N64 wasn't Retro. Of course, this was 12 years ago. The N64 was about 10 years old at that point
2) The Skull Kid thread back then didn't like Geno like the Skull Kid thread now. Despite the fact the characters have a lot of similarities

I'm curious but, it feels like people are pretty sure we aren't going to get Monster Hunter as a playable character even with Rathalos as a boss and a Monster Hunter 'stage' (which it remains to be seen if it's a legit stage or something for the mode specifically). Is it that people straight up don't think we're getting them in or is it that nobody is really talking about it because there's no "credible" leaks claiming Monster Hunter at the moment?

I mean... to me it feels like right now MonHun is.. pretty likely. Unless people are assuming Rathalos is just being a "Capcom Boss" but that feels weird they'd choose Rath to be a boss for Megaman and Ryu.

I really have grown attached to the idea of Incineroar now (even tho he's my least favorite of the three Alolan starters) because I find playing as the Pokemon... kind of boring in Smash. They're basically animals, so most of their personality isn't really anything special at all. Pikachu, Mewtwo, and Jigglypuff were toned way down from their iconic personalities, Lucario is fine I suppose, and Pichu's the only one that really feels like a character and not just a Pokemon to me. Incineroar is based heavily off a wrestling personality, it would be so hard not to give him a fun to play as personality, and that's why I am all for his inclusion.

This is a big reason why I want Incineroar or Buzzwole. Decidueye is super boring and generic.
