Let's keep DLC and base game speculation separate... it's too messy otherwise. They have different considerations and things that make a character likely for base don't make them likely for DLC and vice versa.

The point is everything is possible in this game, when you have a lot of third party involved with a new contract for a smash bros game is not that easy. "everyone is here" not because of sakurai but because third party was ok with the new contract.

"If a character’s publisher requests something specific of us or puts limitations on our use, we have to acquiesce and do it right by them – no matter the cost. It’s pretty difficult to coordinate and adjust contracts; production is kind of an excruciating process! In fact, we only barely got permission for everybody that’s appearing in Ultimate!"

It's like saying dixie should has been showed in the last direct with king k rool because now it will not happened, we dunno what was planned with this smash bros game so you could be right and I could be right but I think we are jumping to conlusion a little bit quicker than we should.

And I really don't feel that way, to be frank.


Every 3rd party reveal has been built up as a 'surprise' to us.


Snake? Random ass codec in Brawl's trailer.

Sonic? Randomly appeared on the blog, final character that came out of friggen nowhere in subspace.

Megaman? Random CHALLENGER APPROACHING banner.

etc etc etc.


We already KNOW Rathalos is in the game, so there's no surprise here. It's just "Oh, a hunter, okay then."


There's no build up of sudden hype, it's just, there.

Also in regards to the Nintendo Switch Online direct, I feel like we're all expecting them to DO a direct for it, right? Feels weird for them to drop it without giving details. Although I don't know if I expect Smash deta.... well then again it'd be strange for them to do a Direct for the online service and not promote upcoming games that would use it.

What do you guys think? (And not claiming that the leak is real or anything just in general) when we eventually get the Nintendo Switch Online details direct, are you expecting new info for upcoming online games or anything to be included with it? It feels like it'd be strange PR on their part to not show stuff off.

Third parties being ok with the new terms is because of Sakurai in a lot of ways. You can't diminish the man's achievments on being able to do so, these contracts were not proposed or made in a vacuum.

But that aside, I don't think we would know Rathalos and the boss arena without fully knowing it's associated character too. I'm pretty sure they're expanding thrid parties quite a bit since even Smash 4, with all the crossover Mii Costumes. I think it's highly unlikely to have a Monster Hunter rep at this point

Rathalos' reveal does feel like we're probably not getting a MH rep for base game. It's hard to say if we're getting a stage for the series or not, even with base game(which we possibly have the entire base game stages). More likely, at least with the wording, it's a boss of whatever Spirits Mode is.

But who knows. The term boss can simply refer to a stage hazard to begin with. I.E. Ridley on Pyrosphere.

I know it's a joke buuuuut... what if the rep ended up being a Palico and he was holding off to reveal it along with Isabelle in an "Animal Crossing trailer" (come on that'd be the cutest friggin thing... although I don't know who'd get murdered in that trailer. Maybe Resetti.)

Shulk Super Slam was such an underrated gem of a game. I'm so happy it got the Smash Bros representation it deserved.

To be fair, that's an incredibly realistic Pokemon name and it's entirely possible there actually is a Gen VIII Pokemon named that by pure coincidence.

I mean, yeah it is, but at the same time, that throws HEAVY shade against it.


IF we get an announcement today or tomorrow, then it'll seem more likely, but it's gullible.


Unless this is a coincidence on top of a coincidence, I have a hard time believing all these coincidences are indeed coincidences.

Not my intention and the complete opposite to be honest, just to remember that unfortunately this time sakurai has to be ok with the demand of third party to bring back everyone, so we dunno what was the demand behind that (just looking 2 musics for the ff7 franchise show that Square is a bit stingy).

Why do we have to have a Super Mario RPG stage?

With all stages being able to share music, literally put "Beware the Forest Mushroom" in as a song and slap it in the Mario2 music section.

Does it really matter if there isn’t a playable MH character or any “suprise”?

Rayman was given a trophy in 4 without any surprise, they were just in the game. Simple as that.

Bomberman and Shovel Knight were simply shown as ATs.

Since they’ve become a regular in Smash, it’s pretty obvious that not every 3rd Party needs a fancy suprise reveal, and Rathalos as a boss/AT is no different.

I think you're missing the fact that every other 3rd Party character has their own stage and Sakurai isn't going to get lazy over this. If all that mattered was "Super Mario" was in it then he wouldn't be so complicated to get. But he's a SQUARE rep, not a Nintendo rep, and you know Sakurai is going to respect that.
