Main problems with the menu are:
1. The smash ultimate aesthetic is very clearly "black background, coloured font". This is prominent in everything. The CSS background and stage select background is black. There's some of this in the menu "leak" but not really in the right places.
2. This menu is an absolute mess, navigation wise. Even Smash 4 has the menu buttons cascading down. There is almost no structure to this at all. Just buttons all over the place, navigating it with a controller would be hell. This is in contrast to how rigid the ultimate stage select and CSS screen look.
3. The grid background isn't present in the CSS or stage select menu and the gradient is different, they have the colours roughly the same but not the design.
4. There is a very clear "boxy" theme going on, in both the CSS and stage select everything is boxy and straight, except where one corner is tapered off, which is missing from this design too. Smash 4 had similar designs to the buttons across all menus, they were way rounder.
5. The glow border around the boxes is odd. The amount of glow you're getting across the buttons is wildly inconsistent, and doesn't really match up with the one instance in the stage select where theres a glow at all..

Yeah the consistency and design issues definitely aren't fitting of Sakurai, the master of menus. It just feels kind of...try-hard and tacky-looking? Doesn't really suit the aesthetic or skill of Sakurai at all

And if he knows enough about the English version of the game to use the term Echo Fighter he shouldn't be calling Incineroar Gaogaen, and misspelling "Simon Belmont" as "Shimon Berumondo" and "Ness" as "Nesu".

Simon was also mistook for the Dovahkiin around the offices amusingly.
K.Rool is an assist trophy. There was no way to make him a truly playable character without him resembling Bowser to the point of being an echo fighter save for him throwing his crown. K.Rool biggest issue was giving him a reliable recovery move that wasn't already done with other fighters to make him feel unique.

I'd lean more towards a Persona/SMT rep given the series' popularity over Puyo Puyo.

Sonic is a series that does way better in the west than Japan, so including some extra content from Puyo when majority of the buyers wouldn't know where that's from should say something. Although Joker got a costume too, so that's a point in your favor kek. Tbh, I just want Arle in so we actually do get more Puyo games in the west and it does become more popular here. PPT was the first game in 10 years to come to the west which is a shame. I'd be fine with Persona, but I'd prefer Puyo much more.

Springman and rex/pyra are in the planning stages and will be DLC, a few others are being considered. A 7th gen pokemon is almost definitely going to happen, but which one hasn't been decided yet.

It's already been more than 10 years since Persona 4's release, and Yu has already appeared in one crossover this year (BBTAG), and he's going to be featured in another one later on (Persona Q2 in November). Imagine Yu appearing in A THIRD crossover just in this year alone.

Persona 4 really does never die.

Gotta wonder sometimes how JYB and Yuri Lowenthal feel about voicing Yu and Yosuke for the past 10 years. Yukiko's VA too, though I don't remember her name.

Now to the existing character changes

If it helps, Puyo was stealthily going on our shores for years as Avalanche/Mean Bean Machine before Fever was brought (never mind Puyo Puyo Tetris), and even in Sonic Mania, Sonic's connection to Puyo was made that much stronger. It definitely has an edge, though not quite over things like SMT and Yakuza.

That's kinda the basis behind it. Nintendo and Sega are best buddies, and after Sonic and Bayonetta they lack truly notable series (Puyo Puyo has been gaining popularity recently, but falls way behind the former two). SMT/Persona is a series with close ties to Nintendo and strong worldwide popularity. I really wanted Nintendo to buy out Atlas when the news came out, but Sega's the next best thing. WAY better than Microsoft or Sony.

I think Joker/Yu Narukami is really likely as DLC, if not as part of the base roster.

Don't make me get my hopes up. ;_;

Like, at least Daisy is a semi-important character to the Mario Franchise. Dry Bowser was a one-off boss in NSMB and keeps appearing in spin offs.

.......that and Mario already got an Echo fighter, and while there's nothing saying it can't have multiple, it feels really 'odd' for some reason.

I completely unjustifiably blame Pit for the bias Kid Icarus has received and how the Zelda series is not being well represented and full of clones considering its importance to Nintendo.

And then Dark Pit came along to confirm my BS headcanon. Yeah yeah - blah blah no dev time, but Dark Pit did receive a unique crowd chant and victory theme, while the two Links shared a chant in Sm4sh and Ganondorf is the only antagonist who still has a hero's victory.

Don't worry, I know it's not true. But I still am totally biased against Kid Icarus.

that "japanese developer" gotta be the fakest leak ive actually read, which is quite impressive. in part for reasons you posted above... if he was a "engrisu" type of japanese it may be more belieable, but his english was top notch.

regarding the K.Rool stuff of teh opther leak... damn, i knew that they couldnt solve how to represent K.Rool signature firebreathing and shell spinning withouth stepping in bowser, poor guy. /s
if anything, all the ideas ive read of K.rool, he seems to be way closer to DDD as a slow heavyweight with zoning, tricky projectiles and setups than.... bowser.

I mean Dark Pit has a role in Uprising but that's one game. I think the average person would recognize Dry Bowser more, especially when 2 of the games he's appeared in have sold over 30 million copies.

I don't think he's a top contender but I don't think he strays far from the methodology applied to clones/echoes so far.

The thing with clones is that they get added late in development to pad the roster. I doubt Echo Fighters are any different. So assuming Dry Bowser started off as a costume for Bowser like the clone trio in Smash 4 and probably Daisy as well, if Sakurai waned to upgrade him to his own character then he will, relevancy be damned.

That said, while I support him I'm not expecting him, since Alph is still an alt and I imagine he'd take priority among potential alts-to-Echo Fighters.
