Official Smash Ultimate Discussion

Almost one month has passed since release. In retrospect....

  • This is by far the best Smash ever. Like, I don't even know how they will top this.

  • Pretty freakin' good; I have a few qualms over things like internet play, balancing issues, etc.

  • It's ok, but [insert Smash game here] is better.

  • I'd rather play Parcheesi.

Why exactly do so many people not want Minecraft Steve in Smash?
Is this bait lol.

Either way we have villager who is basically the same thing except an iconic Nintendo character.

There's only so much you can do about a blocky man with a pickaxe. His aesthetic doesn't suit the game at all either.

As for 3rd party character wanted I can only see Banjo, Simon Belmont and Rayman being out in.

I know Banjo is the most unlikely but head of Xbox Ohil tweeted he would love to see Banjo in smash and gave the ok to Nintendo essentially. I think he can have a very unique good moveset.

You're right. I don't think that Steve would work in Smash. He's just too blocky and stiff and it just wouldn't look right.

Unconventional character that uses tools and equipment as weapons to fight.
Personally, I don’t think using tools and equipment should be the focus of Steve’s moveset, even though he’d use them; his speciality should be adding terrain to the stage (using some of his normals rather than his specials; the blocks have a hit box when they’re placed) and then placing traps with his specials. After all, his mobility is terrible, so he should be able to force the opponent to try to invade his fortress or to try to stop him from setting it up in the first place. This kind of moveset would definitely be way different from Villager’s.

I feel like this describes half the cast.
Yeah true lol but I mean realistic items like shovels etc just an everyday type of person. On a fluid fighting game with a certain style I just don't see how Steve could fit and I don't particularly want him as devs would spend time on him rather than another fighter we could have

Maybe specials could be creative but in the air fighting with air dodging etc? I don't see it working

Tbh, I don't entirely get the whole "Chrom is too similar to Ike" thing. I know that Palutena's Guidance isn't meant to be taken too seriously, but still I don't really see it. They both have Aether, sure, but that's kind of it.

What if we DO indeed get a character reveal during or after EVO, but it’s NOT K. Rool, Dixie, Spring-Man, or Heihachi? Who do you expect? Who do you want?
I'd expect Isabelle, or Ashley

I'd want Impa (non-echo), or Elma.
Honestly being an event mon is imo enough to deconfirm Zeraora, just look at the Deoxys, Darkrai and Genesect fiascos from previous Smash speculations.

I feel its either going to be Decidueye or Mimikyu for the pokemon rep, or we get a Gen 8 pokemon for DLC
I wouldn't count out Zeraora(ora)(ora) just yet. It either those two, Incineroar, Lycanroc, or we could get Primarina as a newcomer.
Ascended: Microman from Micronauts Takao Kinomiya aka Tyson Granger from Beyblade

:troll:
My favorite beyblader, having a beyblade attack, summoning Dragoon, and sicking him on my opponents with tornadoes sounds awesome.

I'm still of the opinion that no new 3rd Party character at E3 makes it more likely than not we won't get another one at all. It would just be bizarre to not announce them at E3 if they had them. I don't think they'd want to risk people missing the announcement and there's no 'safe' place I'm aware of to announce without less hardcore gamers missing it between E3 and release. E3 is like the one time non-Nintendo fans watch Nintendo stuff.
Not saying you can't be right (I'm of the opinion there's either one more in the base game or none at all. Cause either of those 2 bring a sweetspot when it comes to 8-Player Smash. As it is now currently you can have an 8 player match of Mario and the 7 3rd Parties, one more means a full non-nintendo 8 Player match would be possible). But we do have 3 3rd parties that were not E3 announcements when they debuted in Smash: Sonic, Cloud, and Bayonetta.

Of course, all 3 I suppose have special conditions and maybe just not good timing for E3. Sonic was added late in the game and probably wasn't ready (But surely had to have been being worked on or at least being negotiated on at the time) to be shown off at E3 2007. And I guess Cloud and Bayonetta being DLC kind of a different condition too. But it still kinda shows that E3 isn't always the indicator for 3rd Parties even if yeah, 4 of the current 7 were announced at E3 (Snake, Megaman, Pac-Man, and Ryu even if we knew he was in due to datamines beforehand)

Well I'm going to sleep happy that Minecraft Steve has a 0% chance of making it into the roster.

I would retire from smash if he were ever added in over 3rd party characters like Simon Belmont, Goku, Rayman, Banjo and Kazooie and master chief

DUH totally forgot Sonic was just a random update. Yeah I don't think not having a 3rd party reveal at E3eans there won't be one in base. It would feel kind of weird if there wasn't at least one.

Those conditions are things unlikely to apply to any EVO or TGS reveal since DLC certainly won't be getting announced there. Sonic is the real special case and it is possible it'll happen again, I just don't think it's likely.

So all non-DLC 3rd parties who weren't very late additions were announced at E3. I'm not expecting super late additions because DLC is possible now (wasn't for Brawl with Sonuc) and they already have a huge workload with everyone back. So while a 3rd party could still be announced, it just feels unlikely to me.

oof that voice acting definitely aint it, and the visuals are bland as bland can get. It could be worse though.

When it comes to smash there's no chance, it's too late and they wouldn't do it regardless, pretty much the only non-game material smash references is the pokemon anime and that's still like barely

This tweet is as random as this one:

And Daisy is in Smash now, Lycanroc confirmed.

/s
You almost gave me a heart attack until I actually read the tweets.

EDIT: My only argument against Steve is "I don't like Minecraft." Other than personal biases there really is no great reason for excluding him, besides him looking pretty awkward, but people would eventually get used to him, anyway.

because its not what they grew up with
No, people would be upset about Inkling if that was it. It's mostly people like me who see Smash as a Nintendo crossover with some guest characters with historical relation to Nintendo. Minecraft would feel even more out of place than Cloud (at least FF in general has strong Nintendo ties) to those of us who view franchise that way.

Then there's also the fact that tools based moveset feels to a lot very redundant of villager and terrain laying based moveset seems both like a potential technical issue and potential balancing issue (Steve building walls on edge of stage seems a bit too strong to me)

EDIT: Forgot about Banjo fans too, as many of them think only one or the other has a shot and Banjo is more deserving. I personally agree with that sentiment as Banjo is generally more important to the Smash/Nintendo audience (even if Minecraft has more fans overall) and has had people requesting him pretty much from the beginning. Plus his history with Nintendo is quite strong as he debuted in Diddy game, theorized to have had prototypes appear in DKC3, is known for his N64 titles, and his game was seen as something of spiritual predecessor of DK64.

Zeraora was also in the files of Sun and Moon, and even had models and animations.

So he was probably conceived pretty early.

Seriously, why tweet something like this? It’s so random. Now I feel that something about Lycanroc is going to get announced whether Smash or outside of it. :urg:

Watching a WarioWare Live Stream and memory man just joined the stream chat. Feels bad man.
Dunno why we need to keep on mentioning him here, TBQH... that guy's antics is just toxic yet people give him so much attention it makes other trolls on the internet starve to death.

As a side note anyone else want Luigi's brawl final smash back? It was just so much cooler and unique than sucking people up in a vacuum cleaner.
While the FS was really damn cool, I found it little difficult to take in a light-hearted fashion for some reason. Mostly because Luigi being overshadowed by Mario and it makes him wanna secretly get rid of him"-stuff's been done to death by everyone, and I personally think it's not in true nature of the brothers as we see in Mario & Luigi-games.
Poltergust retracted this all back along with being shown around Year of Luigi, which IMO made up for Luigi's overall treatment back in the 2000s a good bit.

My theory is that Luigi somehow met Ashley during one spooky night, and she chased the guy due how much that "brooding essence" he possessed. Ashley personally removed it from him and now uses it as a magic spell we see in Sm4sh when pops out of Assist Trophy.

The only reason I want Steve to get in is for these comments to stop.

Like, bye. Just leave. Nobody will miss someone so upset over the inclusion of a character they quit the game. lol

I wouldn't say they're too similar at all. But, even as a big fan of Awakening, I wouldn't want Chrom in. Fire Emblem has seven different 'eras' to pull characters from (eight if you count Heroes, nine if you count Three Houses), and I feel like using three character spots for Awakening alone isn't really balanced at all.

I'd rather see a character from Valentia, Thracia, Shadow Dragon or Binding Blade, preferably a tome/staff/lance wielder. There are just too many damn characters in Fire Emblem to get stuck using only blue haired swordsmen.

There is not gonna be a direct tomorrow, all of those leaks were false, the only newcomer will be Homer Simpson and Peter Griffin as an Echo of Homer.

Certainly not. This is a show made by people pretending to be Mega Man fans, but clearly would rather do something else instead. Ruby-Spears MM was more accurate than this dungpile.

Really Steve in Smash, a few years ago it would have been socially acceptable to play Minecraft but now it needs to die
If anything, I'd rather see the protag from Dragon Quest Builders make it in than him.

I feel like someone posted it a while back but I think it would be interesting to see the huge list of dead "leaks" once July is officially over lol.

Honestly, my dislike of Steve is probably just my general dislike of adding too many Third-Parties combined with early-onset "old-man syndrome."

He's on the same level as Angry Birds, FNAF, and Fortnite for me. Perfectly fine games in their own right, and I've played most of them. Massively popular? Sure. But for me they'll always be associated with millions of little kids with "ADHD" obsessing over them on Twitch and Youtube, and not with the best of gaming history.

As a fairly young person, I can say I don't obsess over those Games. I like FNAF and Minecraft, But I don't play either of them too much. I only play MC when my friends are on and only really like FNAF for the lore. the Gameplay is fun. but it's not my jam. I appreciate new mechanics being added though.
Never got into Fortnite or Angry birds though.

I agree with this, but to be fair it can also be applied to Pokemon Go.

I will never understand their sheer hatred that Steve gets.

It just feels like people are letting the stigma that Minecraft is for kids affect them more then any real distaste for the character itself.

And I find that really ironic on a Nintendo forum.
