Official Smash Ultimate Discussion

Almost one month has passed since release. In retrospect....

  • This is by far the best Smash ever. Like, I don't even know how they will top this.

  • Pretty freakin' good; I have a few qualms over things like internet play, balancing issues, etc.

  • It's ok, but [insert Smash game here] is better.

  • I'd rather play Parcheesi.

This talk about coming up with newcomer attributes reminds me of a discussion topic I thought of.

Character weight values. They can go a long way in making some characters feel more right, at least in my experience, so I'm curious to see if there are any characters who's weights you would adjust greatly to make them feel right to ya.

I did a large chart a while back out of sheer boredom:

My boi is pretty damn heavy, which I prefer over his lightweight and/or middleweight classifications in the Mario spin-offs. He shouldn't just be heavier than Mario, he should be significantly heavier

Yeah.... XD

For some reason, he was even heavier than Dedede in Brawl (Snake weighed 113 units, as opposed to Dedede's 112), which I still don't quite get. My weight of 110 is still probably too high, but I kinda grew used to how heavy he was. Eh, I'll just say it's all his stealth equipment.

Oh! I thought that's what you meant, just wanted to be sure.

To answer your question, I don't actually think there'd be much I'd change about the fighters' attributes, to be honest.

I do find it weird how light a lot of the girls are, though (Example: Why is the 6 foot tall Samus lighter out of her armour than the 3' 3" Sonic?)
Sonic's shoes must be quite heavy.

(The real answer though is balancing around the character's Smash design, which is why you have Rosalina and Mewtwo so light, as otherwise they would probably be busted if their weight was more reflective of their actual size).

Here are actual MMA Weight Classes:
Atomweight > Strawweight > Flyweight > Bantamweight > Featherweight > Lightweight > Super Lightweight > Welterweight > Super Welterweight > Middleweight > Super Middleweight > Light Heavyweight > Cruiserweight > Heavyweight > Super Heavyweight

It's funny you and I both made charts for Character weights. XD

I still find it strange how :ultlink: & :ultfalcon: have shared the same weight every single game. It is a bit funny, but is Link's gear really that heavy? Link honestly could be around 101-102 to me, but he does not hold enough items to make him heavier than, say, Cloud.

:ultpikachu: would die to almost everything with his real weight. :ultpichu: & especially :ultjigglypuff: too. :squirtle: & :ivysaur: I guess as well. :ultmewtwo: would live forever (well, not really).

:ultcloud: could be heavier than :ultlink: with the Buster Sword alone, but his weight bugs me in SSB4 now that I think about it. Cloud could be 104 in my opinion.

:ultpacman: is. . . eh. I don't know what would make sense for him.

:ultrob: would be pitiful as just a toy.

Not sure how much :ulticeclimbers: would weigh individually. I wonder now. . .

:ultgnw: probably should be the lightest character, but I don't know what would work. Maybe 50, but no less. That still would hurt a lot though. . .

It's weird how Ness and Lucas have the same weight.
They have the same body type, but Ness is wearing a backpack.

So I'd like to try something new.

I'll ask you how you feel about a new character from an underrepresented series but.... I'll ask it in a five question format.

1. How excited are you for this potential character, identity wise? Meaning who the character is and what they represent.
2. How excited are you for this potential character's potential moveset?
3. How excited are you for a potential stage from this series?
4. How excited are you for potential items and assist trophies from this series?
5. How excited are you for potential music from this series?

I'd like you guys to answer these questions for five series right now.

Golden Sun
Rhythm Heaven
Chibi-Robo
Dillon's Rolling Western
ARMS
Sadly, I know nothing about any of those series except ARMS. But I can say I'd be interested in Isaac, and Springman Min-Min, and I'm always up for fun, and inventive movesets so if they have them bring em. Everything else would be okay or meh except possibly what little I heard from Golden Sun's music in Brawl, and some music from arms, I like most genres of music to the point I only have two: music I like, music I don't like. So I'd most likely would like what Golden sun or other games would bring likely.

Rhythm characters aren't at the top of newcomers for me, but for what little I know of Rhythm Heaven, I know I'd want either Rhythm Girl or Karate Joe as newcomers, instead of Chorus Kids.
While we're talking about weight I got an idea.

What do you all think of the attributes your most wanted newcomers might have if they were to be playable?
Amaterasu would be Middleweight, she'd have a medium hitbox, and an average launch, she quite fast and agile. She would have a great recovery but how effective it'd be depend on how much ink she has. She'd be a versatile, all around combo character capable of short range, medium range, and fast long range attacks

Hey guys, I think I've found the leak

Hello, I can share some info about the new Super Smash Bros. game for you. Obvious but english is not my main language so sorry if I can't write correct. I have info about the new fighters. The thing is that maybe I don't know about all the fighters and there are some newcomers that are just rumors in the office and I have no way to know if they are real or not, but I will share it since it there was some rumors proven real more early in the development.

A Newcomer that I can 100% confirm right now is Geno from Super Mario RPG and is representing the Super Mario series but Square Enix as well.
I have seen some moves but not all: I know that his Side Special is a Beam coming from his Arm that open from his elbow and that his Normal Special is a Disc that He can throw upward or downward too. His Down Specials seems to be a reflecting move or a shield using a rainbow star (I don't really know for sure). I think his Up Special seems to be multiple lazer that he shoots downward. His Finals Smash is him transforming into a cannon and shooting at the aiming zone. He uses headbutt for a lot of his moves and there is 1 move where he takes his arm with his other arm to attack. Also, I have seen a 3D Model for Mallow but I have not seen it in the game for now (Assist Trophy?).

I will post more information with other posts. Keep looking if you want to know. I will not only talk about fighters

Dixie Kong from Donkey kong is another Fighter that I have seen. I have seen her model and 4-5 moves. I am pretty sure that she has one of the biggest double jumps of all the fighters (like Mewtwo but less round). One of her Special is her shooting a bubble gum with a plastic gun and the gum does not damage but slows down enemies for sometimes. Her Up Special is her blowing a bubble gum and floating into the sky for sometimes, the bubble can be destroyed. I have seen two of her Smash Attacks one is her smashing a guitar to the ground the other one is her swinging her ponytail to the ground left and right multiple times. She also grabs other fighters with her ponytail. I heard rumors saying that she can float with her ponytail if you keep pressing the Jump Button.

Elma from Xenoblade Chronicle X is one of the newcomers I have seen almost no info. All I know is that she has two forms: a Human form and a Mech form. While in Mech Form she can fly if you press the jump button. I am pretty sure that she can only take some damage in mech form (50%?) before destroying the mech and not being able to return into that form for the time shes alive. She can shoot with a gun in her mech and form and kicks a lot in human form.

I can also pretty much confirm Mimikyu is the new Pokémon newcomer. I have seen the most moves for her. Her Normal Special is a unique move (Mimic) where can make a ghost looking clone of a close fighter and put it in front of Mimikyu. The clone will move with Mimikyu and the next move that Mimikyu will try to do (Normal Attacks, Specials, Throws, Areal attacks, etc) will be the ghost looking clone doing the move from the character that got cloned. Mimikyu got a special effect where she is cannot be knock backed for the first move that hit her. After that, her heads fall down. You can put the head back up with charging bar with Down Special. When her head is up, she can retake the next hit without the knockback. Her up Special is her glowing with a pink sphere and going up. Her Side Special is her Wood Stick growing bigger and having a dark aura and slamming the stick in front of her doing it in the air crash her down. She uses her ghost claw in a lot of other moves. Very Floaty character, but slow on the ground.

The final Newcomer is just a rumor, but I believe it to be real. I heard a lot about Bandanna Waddle Dee from Kirby to be in Smash.
I also heard that there is already work for DLC right now. This rumor, however, seems to be more real since I have seen the series logo and some models. I,m pretty sure Spring man from ARMS, Rex from Xenoblade Chronicle X and Octoling as a Inkling ? are the DLC.

I heard that Spring Man will come out in Winter 2019, Rex in Spring 2019 and Octoling after E3 2019.

I will now talk about the Echo FIghters or ? FIghters

I am working with the Echo FIghters so i know them a lot more than the newcommers.
The last 3 ? Fighters are:

-Funky Kong for Donkey Kong
-Isabelle for Murabito
-and Ninten for Ness

All ? have the same moves but there is some difference with Knockback, damage and angle of Knockback.

Ninten has a big redesign like Roy for Smash for Wii U and 3DS (probably to make him different than Ness). He has a different colored hat and has a lot of Whiteb in his costume. His Shirt does not have Yellow in it and it looks more like White star on a black and blue shirt. He has 3 difference with Ness in their Specials. PK Thunder is a lot faster so more difficult to control, Pk Fire is angled Up if Ninten is on the ground and PSI Magnet is has a bigger protection.

Lucina has Tipper on a bigger part of her Sword but her Tipper does less knockback. Also, Her Specials seems to have more range than Marth's

Dark Pit 's Normal Special has a lot less curve in his arrow, but his Side Special seems to do a lot more Knockback than Pit's and go further.

Funky Kong Up Special seems to work a lot different than Donkey Kong's. His Up B is Funky Kong Spinning on his Surf Board. The Hitting part is down instead of Up like DK. When Funky Kong use Up Special on the ground, he just does a fast and powerful Surf Board Swing instead of spinning.

Daisy, the ? Fighter of Peach have only 2 specials different. Her Toad counterattack does no damage but Stun the enemy (Like Corrin's Normal Special) Also when using her Down Special, she has a chance to pull out The Freeze Item and the Beehive item instead of the Bob-Omb and Mr. Saturn.

Isabelle has a countdown on her Pocket and she loses the item when the countdown is finished (It is like a Clock on her Pocket Icon over her %). But the Projectile that she pockets is massively enhanced. She has only 1 Balloon on her Up Special, but she jumps instead of fluttering. She also cannot ride her Side Special but the explosion of the Rocket is bigger.

I have not seen a lot of new stages but I can say the ones I saw:

-Fountain of Dreams
-Yoshi Wool World
-Gamer
-Summit
-Pupupu Land from Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS
-Rainbow Road
-Rainbow Cruise
-Mute City from Super Smash Bros, for Nintendo 3DS
-Wii Fit Studio
-New Donk City from Super Mario Odyssey
-NLA (From Xenoblade Chronicle X)
-Throne Room (From Super Mario RPG)
-Saturn Valley (From Mother 2)

Begin the story

Being serious, this leak is now dead. Still a good copypasta I guess.

Another weird weight is Little Mac, who has an insane amount of muscle and is not even that short, but is lighter than characters like Peach and Duck Hunt.

Is it just me or is Smashboards impossibly slow lately? And is it just mobile or on desktop too?

Lol, why was Snake so heavy.
Were those rations that fattening?
Brawl Snake is a wonder of game balancing, so many things were absurd about him, and there were still at least four other characters more busted than him.

I heard a claim before about how Brawl Snake was originally as big as Ganondorf and had his weight, power, and reach to account for it, then they shrunk him late in development but without actually touching any of his stats, resulting in his ridiculous weight, power, and far disjointed hitboxes. Of course there's no actual source for that being true and I think people got it from his old original Brawl render where he looked bigger, alongside just trying to rationalize how Snake could be heavier, stronger, and have bigger hitboxes than Ganondorf.

Dying
:ultpikachu: would die to almost everything with his real weight. :ultpichu: & especially :ultjigglypuff: too. :squirtle: & :ivysaur: I guess as well. :ultmewtwo: would live forever (well, not really).

:ultrob: would be pitiful as just a toy.
.
Yea, I took a few creative liberties with the Pokemon characters, for the sake of fun (and also, for Mewtwo, he's meant to be a glass cannon now, so I decided being light was fine for him). While R.O.B is a toy, he;s pretty damn tall in Smash, and he just looks to me like he'd be pretty heavy.

Good points about Link and Cloud, tho. I guess I just grew too accustomed to Link and Falcon's weights being 104 to really bother changing them.

That would explain a lot. Considering how insanely crappy Brawl's balancing was, that wouldn't suprise me.

It was a leak that got posted three times in one day, and became a meme copypasta. I was jokingly referring to it as "the leak."

Also, it's in the graveyard as it claims DLC is already in development when it is most likely (read: 99.99%) not even on the table right now.

Gee, this person must have some inside info we don't know about.

Lucina has Tipper on a bigger part of her Sword but her Tipper does less knockback.
And as a side note, giving Lucina a tipper mechanic takes away the one thing that made her stand out from Marth. That's actually making her more of a clone, not less of one.

Are people saying there's precedent for a character reveal at the EVO thing? I don't see how this event is any different from the others. (If it is different, how so? Have they used this to reveal a new character before, or are people just getting hyped up over nothing again?)

Oh haha.

Well, it also says Daisy's Toad stuns and we already saw that it doesn't do that in the presentation...

Let's see…

Shantae - Middleweight, hitbox may be wonky due to her hair.

Rayman - Lightweight, seeing as he doesn't even have limbs to begin with. Each body part that attacks has its own hitbox.

Crash Bandicoot - Middleweight, although his spin attack could allow him to gently fall back down onto a surface, if need be.

Shovel Knight - Heavyweight, regardless of whether he'll be tall or SD. Guy's covered from head to toe with armor, you know.

Dixie Kong - Middle to lightweight, around Diddy's range. Like for Crash, her helicopter maneuver can allow a slow descent.

Ah yes, good old Beyond Oasis. I guess this means Luigi is safe for another day.

Nah, just get a Pro Wrestling NES character (most likely Star Man) and SUPER! MACHO! MAN!!! and we're golden.

Meanwhile, the noteworthiest villains have to be in, too (Medusa, Hades and, if one feels very generous, Pandora).

I like these games, but there's just better characters to add. Palutena and another Kid Icarus Uprising rep make more sense to me, though I can imagine that everyone except Pit will be axed in the next Smash game since there's not gonna be another Kid Icarus game for a long time, according to Sakurai.
Or...here’s a crazy idea...all Nintendo character stay (with the logic of another game not coming out for a long Time was legit, we wouldn’t have gotten Lucas twice, nor would Snake be back even after the Konami situation and MGS ending, etc.)

I imagine that with DLC, Sakurai has some kind of idea who the first characters he'll be doing for DLC is.

As in, Spring Man and Rex & Pyra, I can envision him seeing them and bemoaning the fact that he finalised the project proposal so early. XD

Not saying they're in development yet, though.
