Kid Icarus: Uprising deserves to get remade in full HD for the Switch... that game really got held back by the platform, both graphically and mechanically.
But anyway, here's a quick pie chart of Smash stages:

The vast majority of stages are early game Green Hill Zones. 49%, for a total of 57 stages. The Yoshi and DK series have nothing but early game stages... tragic.
Next up are stages that are original locations and/or loosely inspired by their original games, like Miiverse, Flat Zone, and Castle Siege. These account for 31.9% of the stages for a total of 37.
11.2% of stages are late-game stages, for a total of 13. Three of them are from Pokemon.
And lastly, there's just a sad 7.8% of mid-game stages. 9 total.
Smash original stages like Battlefield and Final Destination are NOT included in these numbers.
Point is: Early-game stages are overabundant. I know Yoshi's Island and the Mushroom Kingdom are iconic, but we don't need five Mushroom Kingdoms,
(and that's not even including stages that are in the Mushroom Kingdom but not named after it, like Golden Plains and 3D Land)
four Yoshi's Islands, and five DK Jungles. Give us some variety, Nintendo!
