Well, at least most of my choices won.
Game 1: Banjo & Kazooie (an actual character, plus I feel that people only want Black Mage to replace Cloud as the FF rep which rubs me the wrong way)
Game 2: Jade (honestly I couldn't care less)
Game 3: Phoenix Wright (somewhat of a toughie, but Nick's fresher on my memory. I should replay the MMX games)
Game 4: Tails (would've voted for him even if it was Solaire as he's my favorite Sonic character)
Game 5: Shovel Knight (For shovelry!!)
Game 6: Lloyd Irving (I believe he's been requested for a long time. I don't really care though)
Game 7: Quote (not a fan of Shantae)
Game 8: Agumon (ultimately I feel that his inclusion would generate more hype overall, and I would like to see him fight Pikachu)
Game 9: Rayman (Conker would lose a lot of his identity if he were in Smash due to censorship. Meanwhile Rayman should've gotten in last time)
Game 10: Crono (slightly more familiar with his game)
Game 11: Simon Belmont (more familiar with Castlevania than I am with Joe)
Game 12: Joker (no Sora allowed)
Game 13: Crash Bandicoot (Knuckles is one of my favorite Sonic characters, but it's Crash Bandicoot we're talking about here)
Game 14: Spyro (fits in better and I plan on getting his trilogy)
Game 15: Bomberman (fits in better and I'm not a fan of other fighting games)
Game 16: Dr. Eggman (I plan on getting the Switch version of TWEWY, but Eggman is a character I've been wanting for quite a while)

I gotta say though, seeing people say they played a lot of the games here makes me want to play more games as well.

Have to point out that Travis vs. Spyro is just unfair :/ especially this early. I believe Travis has a legitimate chance this game and Spyro will probably win this round due to bandwagoning on the trilogy release (despite the fact that Travis is getting a new game on the switch)

KOS-MOS is originally from Xenosaga, that’s third party. Since it was developed by the same team that makes the Xenoblade games, it appears they were able to sneak her in as a cameo for Xenoblade 2, but otherwise as far as we know the Xenosaga IP is still third party.

This has come up a couple times now, so someone should probably address it.
I'm a little fuzzy on the details myself, but I'm pretty sure the placement is correct. KOS-MOS is from Xenosaga which was developed by Monolith Soft, but published by Namco. Publishers usually retain rights to the intellectual property as well. I'm pretty sure a lot of the characters on the first-party bracket are technically developed by independent studios but published by Nintendo.
Rex, Pyra, and Elma are all from Xenoblade, also developed by Monolith Soft; now, though, Nintendo is the publisher. This line is blurred by

which I think we have to currently treat as an outside cameo.
Monolith was once owned by Namco but is now a subsidiary of Nintendo. That might (?) give Nintendo some amount of claim to KOS-MOS, but at the very least Nintendo would have to negotiation with Bandai Namco on the rights to Xenosaga property in Smash unless there has already been a transfer of intellectual property behind the scenes. At least that's how I understand it; there might be someone more informed on the subject.

I'm about to go watch a movie and don't have time to ready the next round, so I'll let this round go on for now. Probably not a good idea since I don't think we have a tie at the moment, but I'll take the risk. I'll wrap this up when I get back home.

To elaborate, Monolith Soft made the Xenogears and Xenosaga games for Bandai Namco before Nintendo bought Monolift. Xenoblade, while unrelated, is named after these series.

KOS-MOS is still owned by Bandai Namco, but she makes a cameo in Xenoblade Chronicles 2 as a rare blade. This can be seen in the Copyright section of the game, where she is © Bandai-Namco Games.

So while tangentially related to Xenoblade due to having the same creators, she's a third party character and isn't owned by Nintendo.

So... yeah. @Yokta originally picked Neku but later edited the post to pick Eggman as a joke towards Al-kīmiyā' who as I'm sure everyone knows by now is a Neku fan. Votes aren't really supposed to be treated as jokes, and I'm not sure if Yokta really intended for it to be the decisive vote. Depending on how it falls, either Neku or Eggman would win by one.
Oh yeah... and then there is TheZoologist 's vote. It was posted after the round closure, but the vote was cast for Neku. If counted, this would be a tie even factoring in Yokta's Eggman vote.
I've been saying that I only count votes prior to closure, but the only time this has occurred before, I went ahead and counted it in the tallies, so the precedent is set. Looking at possible ways I could treat this situation, I could tally the votes 4 different ways- 6 if I just discount Yokta's vote altogether.
Given the mess, I'm going to say Neku wins by a score of... whatever. He wins in the majority of the possible scenarios. I'm ready to face the flames for this, especially since I voted for Neku. But I'll ask you this- would you feel comfortable letting a character win by willingly ignoring someone's genuine vote and counting a troll vote?

I'm making two rule updates based on what happened:

* I won't formally "close" the round. All votes counted before I click the "Post Reply" button with the results will be counted. My main reason for having that rule in the first place was because I didn't want 20 posts coming in while tallying the results. The actual posting is not nearly that frequent when the time rolls around, so it's not really difficult to handle the maybe one post that comes in since I start confirming results.

And to refer to a comment on that post, I'd rather no new third party series than an extra rep for sonic. Sega can go and make their own fighter XD

Mostly easy choices, but Crash versus Spyro was tough because I like both equally. Ultimately Crash just feels like he'd be a slightly better fighter to me.
