Game 1: Banjo & Kazooie (as cool as Yooka & Laylee are, they are inspired from Banjo & Kazooie; this wouldn't even be a suggestion if they had put him in Melee to begin with)
Game 2: Black Mage (Shadow is cool but he'd be a semi-clone of Sonic)
Game 3: Arle Nadja (Jade would be interesting but Arle Nadja would be a more important inclusion)

Game 2: Shadow - BM doesn't interest me at all. He's an interchangeable black magic caster. So many other main characters do what he does in addition to having their own unique abilities. Even in the context of the pure spellcaster archetype, there's other options I'd prefer. Like Kamek. Like Micaiah. Literally anyone else with a pulse and a personality.

And we’re back! This time, we’ll be looking at 64 potential third-party newcomers and deciding who we want most. Before you ask, I believe 63 of these characters were recommended to me by fellow members (one of them is my own choice ha~), so if you think some of these are too obscure or unpopular… well, not to everyone, it would seem. I can’t say I particularly want to see most of these characters in Smash myself, so I’ll probably be picking the lesser of two evils more often than not.

As for the seeding… yeah, outside of maybe the top 3 seeds, I have almost NO idea how to predict whom people will vote for. At least the top 3/4 seeds are really the important part to make sure they don't play each other too early. I felt fairly confident about the first-party candidates by doing research and reading threads, which ended up being pretty accurate, but there’s just a lot less data out there for third-party choices. There’s active support, passive tolerance, active dislike, and more to take into account, and a lot of these attitudes won’t be exposed without actually playing. So let’s play. I chose the seeds, but the matchups were matched by the maker. I’ve got the cool PDF bracket on the OP, but here are the matchups in text form:

I wouldn't mind Yooka and Laylee if the bird and bear don't make it since their game captures the B&K essence so well but until Nintendo says it's impossible I'm going for broke and supporting Banjo and Kazooie.

I like Shadow. His story is a part of why SA2 is still my favorite Sonic game. Sure later games have ruined his character a bit I still enjoy him for who he is.

Game 3:13. Jade (Beyond Good & Evil)
Not the biggest puzzle fan but I did enjoy Beyond Good and Evil so Jade gets my vote

Game 4:5. KOS-MOS
I've played every Xeno game to date and KOS-MOS is awesome in every appearance she makes

How can you not love Ace Attorney?

Game 7: Tails because I actually know him and he was fun in Super Smash Flash.

Game 13: Shantae because she has relevance in the west, not that that's likely to sway the developers.

Game 15: Earthworm Jim because he's unique, goofy and was a big deal in his heyday.
Game 16: Agumon because One Steve Limit and also I feel like he was more iconic. Plus I just like Digimon, ok?
Game 17: Rayman because I actually know him.
Game 18: No comment.
Game 19: Frogger because he's a real time gaming icon.
Game 20: Amaterasu because we don't have enough quadrapedal smashers and her game's art was stunning!
Game 21: Simon Belmont because real time.
Game 22: Viewtiful Joe because cool forth wall powers.
Game 23: Sora because he'd feel slightly less out of place.
Game 24: Nightmare (Soulcalibur) because he's a quick, long range, movement--focused heavy who's drawback lies in the duration of moves, not startup or end times. He's a very unique swordsman, two characters in one and a representation of the entire conflict of his series. Plus, someone needs to show Cloud and Ike what a big sword really is.
Game 25: Crash Bandicoot because both are iconic but he has the Nintendo personality.
Game 26: Sans because turning the fight into a bullet hell would be quite novel
Game 27: Spyro for the same reasons as Crash.
Game 28: Travis Touchdown because his games aren't PG but at least his appearance is.
Game 29: Bomberman because Lara might be a legend but she's not a genre.
Game 30: Jack Frost because he's goofy fun and was the only worthy character in the DS Snowboard Kids remake.

Maybe it's personal bias, but IMO Solaire is such an overrated character. DOOM has had a bigger impact on gaming than Dark Souls, has been around much longer (since 1993!), is more relevant to Nintendo than just a Switch port, and Doomguy would have a much more interesting moveset than Solaire.

Jeez this is a tough one. I think Shovel Knight would fit well into Smash, but at the same time, though I would really like a Resident Evil character, I would rather it be Chris Redfield (even if his moveset would probably be pretty similar to Jill), so no vote for me.

He'd have a really interesting moveset if he's added in.

Game 11: Klonoa

Klonoa would be a better fit IMO because at least he isn't the mascot of a competing console.

What I learned most from this is that most 3rd parties don't look, act, or really deserve to be in Smash. A lot of who the heck is this? A lot of generic human edge masters. Some generic anime waifus. And some characters that are based around guns, gore, and sex.

Game 1: Banjo & Kazooie - They're the duo I'd take first and knew first. So the other is like a copy to me.
Game 2: Black Mage (Final Fantasy) - I know Shadow better, but Black Mage would likely be more interesting.
Game 3: Arle Nadja - Wins cause I have at least heard of her.
Game 4: Marina Liteyears - Oh, I played one of this person's games. The other one is a generic anime waifu.
Game 5: Phoenix Wright - Suit beats retro looking thing.
Game 6: Rabbid - Sillier beats edgier.
Game 7: Tails - Don't know the other.
Game 8: Solaire of Astora - Egh, seen him around more.
Game 9: Shovel Knight - She doesn't work well for Smash.

Not to say you shouldn't vote for Jade (I voted for her as well), but generally I only listed the series if I thought they were highly obscure or their names were unclear. I trusted people to make a quick Google search if they didn't know a character, or just abstain.

Again, nothing wrong with the pick itself, but a bit of background for the curious. The farmer would presumably have a name, it's just hard to say what that would be. The most famous Harvest Moon (Bokujou Monogatari in Japan) farmer is known in the fanbase as "Jack" but is technically actually named "Pete." However, that was from when Natsume localized the Bokujou Monogatari games. Now, localization is handled by XSeed Games under the Story of Seasons brand. As XSeed has already set a precedent of not using Natsume's localized names, the farmer probably wouldn't be called "Pete" in Smash. Heck, maybe they'd just make "Jack" official, but there's no way to know yet as that farmer hasn't been used in the past few years since the change happened. That messy situation is why the character is left without an official name on the bracket, but that would be unlikely to actually be the case in Smash.

Game 30: Heiheichi. Could you specify which Jack Frost this is?

He's Atlus's mascot, but he appears in a lot of different series, so I wouldn't really know what to put. Shin Megami Tensei, where most of his appearances are from? Or just say "Atlus"? Or are you asking for a specific appearance of the character (I'm not really an expert on the subject, but his appearance does seem to change some). Unless you feel his playstyle would be dramatically different based on what game we are talking about, I'm not sure it matters too much.

I know barely anything about either of these guys, but I'd love to see another fighting game see some playable representation in Smash beyond a Mii costume.

I would love to see Eggman, but I see a lot of potential in Steve and he would be quite fun. The only thing I am worried about is if the salty portion of the Minecraft fanbase flocks to Smash with him.

I know nothing about Neku, and Chun-Li would be very fun to play as after seeing her in Street Fighter.
