I'm trying to figure out whether or not I should "go black" on all Smash Bros. news and discussion until the direct, as to not spoil anything and not over hype myself.
.... I'm not really a fan of the concept of Miis as playable characters. I enjoy them in Mii-centric games, but I would rather not see them in Smash over more distinct Nintendo characters. That being said, anyone who is arguing that they are not iconic is a bit naïve. They starred in some of Nintendo's best selling games of all times, and they represent new Nintendo IPs which is something people are always clamoring for. They have also appeared in so many games that their move set potential is vast. Wii Sports resort has them using everything from a Segue to Frisbees. Pilot Wings has them hang gliding and using a rocket pack. Find Mii has them using a sword and shield and all types of magic (fire, light, ice, etc.) Weren't they even riding in tanks in Wii Play?
If Miis are playable, I really hope you are limited to using the Mii tied to your Nintendo Network account as your online Mii. That would cut down on the more offensive Miis considerably. I also hope they do not have heavily customizable movesets, as that seems like it would be a lot of resources going towards just one character that could have gone to multiple characters.
I wouldn't be upset if Miis are revealed in the direct, but I would be kind of disappointed if they were the focus and we didn't get another newcomer in addition to them.
