How about this instead?

Do you think Nintendogs will return as Assist Trophies now that they have their own stage?

What could the Gamepad and second screen be used for in Sm4sh?

Are there any Megami Tensei-knowledgeable people around who could suggest possible characters from this franchise for Sm4sh? Given that there is supposed to be a crossover of SMT x FE being released in 2014, Sakurai might want to find some way to bring in another newcomer from those games.

Sorry, but Mii imminence is bringing me down, and I'd rather focus on possibilities that make me smile than inevitabilities that make me cry.

Toon Link and Villager (who is supposed to somewhat represent the player) are already in the game, and I've heard nothing from nobody about child abuse promotion. On the topic of what could come up in tomorrow's Direct, I really hope they talk about how the second screens on both the 3DS and Wii U will/may be used in the game. What ways do you think they could be used to enhance the gaming experience?
Yes.

But they aren't you. And this distinction is made clear to parents

Link is the hero of the game with a feature to name him. A parent will walk in and think it's adorable or something along those lines that their child immersed themselves enough in the game to call themselves the hero.

The villager is a much closer relation. The parent would probably think though. (That's not my kid's person right?) and just by looking at them they could easily tell.

However, with the Mii's, they are likely to say "OH, THEY'RE BEATING UP MY CHILD."
This is assuming the child is losing and actually has a mii that looks like them.

People who let hatred govern their decisions are people who are destined to live very sad and pathetic lives. So really if anything I genuinely feel sorry for those who feel that if a character they hate gets in, will ruin the entire thing for them. Your inability to focus on things that make you happy, over the things you dislike, is truly one of the more tragic First World Problems.
You misinterpreted that entirely.

You said that we would accept the Mii's and my statement regarding our hatred of it was a counter to say that even if they did make it in, does not mean we would like it.

No one will drop their pre-order simply because the Mii gets in. This is more about the here and now. We are saying who we don't want and will continue to advocate that until the games release or the character is announced. We will express disappointment about it but get over it like any other thing that disappoints us.

It's like any other debate that has to come down to a big decision. Very similar to the presidency. People will vote for the one they want and hope with all their being that the other guy isn't chosen.

When that other guy is chosen they may be extremely disappointed but almost everyone will not pack their bags and leave their homes simply because the person they didn't want is now in office. They learn to tolerate it, even if they still hate it.

As for your statements on happiness...
You assume I cannot focus on the things I am happy with, but that is based off of this one conversation regarding the thing I don't want to appear in this game. We are essentially discussing the things that I don't like and you are claiming that I am not happy because of it.

There are plenty of things that make me happy but right now we are discussing Mii's and I am expressing my distaste of them.

It's of course ok to not want Miis in the game, but really, the amount of hate for them is surprisingly big. Hate them all you want, but I must say, the 'reasons' Miis shouldn't be in are very very... straw-grasping. :p

Anyways, Metroid. It looks awesome. And it pains me, since I really want a new Metwoid game. :(

I doubt there's going to be a Ridley reveal, for a simple reason - if bosses are back, which they probably will be, who will be the Metroid's boss now? I fully expect some really strange reveal tomorrow...strange like Mii's. (Everyone knows that they'll probably be included :L)

I don't know man, these parents of yours seem awfully good at differentiating child-sized characters from one another. Some parents may not be quite so discerning. (Did I use that word correctly?) If anything, you're right in that parents may have difficulty telling their child apart from the Villager. But does that mean that they will automatically jump to "my child is being beat up"? Isn't it equally plausible that they would say "those characters both kind of look similar, but neither of them really looks like my kid".

I mean, come on, have you seen the Miis that the Wii U camera-mode makes? Those things are ***-ugly, they barely look human, much less like anyone's child. Unless you happen to have ***-ugly children. In which case you have bigger things to worry about than their video-game selves getting beat up. Such as their real-world selves getting beat up.

the best part about saitos rant fest is that miis have 3 stages in smash4 already pilotwings, the find mii castle, and the tomodatchi apartment
Good.

Let's leave it as stage representation and not character representation thank you.

I'll remember it too when I take Mac's right hook to their faces as well.

I might spend the first day just K.O.ing level 9 Mii's with every character.

Some parents just like to cause drama though.

I don't think any parent is ACTUALLY that dumb, but they will do it anyway.

Kraid will be Metroid's new boss. Because, unlike Ridley, he really is too big.

I would not put it passed parents these days to make that connection.

It's not that I think the Miis don't deserve to be in the game. I just don't want them in the game.

I actually really like Miis generally, but I can't say they would be a character I would be happy to see in Smash.

ya and smashville was only 1 stage we have 3 stages dedicated tword miis when some characters only get 1 or none in r.o.b's case
3? You mean Pilotwings and Find Mii?

Pilotwings is just representing PILOTWINGS, you know? Just because it has Wuhu Island doesn't make it a "mii stage".
As for the Find Mii one, it's not been confirmed as a stage. Could be part of adventure mode or something.

I'm willing to compromise. If the Mii is indeed confirmed and has a respectable meta game around them, with decent options, I'll accept them as characters because at the end of the day, I just want more technically good characters.

I wouldn't go too deep into stages if I were you. We had Pictochat and Hanenbow as stages. It's just representation of a game era.

It's funny how people are so easy to dismiss obscure Nintendo characters, but believe that Miis are in the game. Does the Mii even constitute as a Nintendo character? Seems more like a program than anything.

Well then, some parents just need a hobby. That gives me an idea...

Hey parents! Have your kids ever annoyed you so much that you wanted to knock them 100 feet in the air with a giant sledgehammer after mercilessly beating their tiny faces to a bloody pulp with your own two fists? Now you can, with Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and Super Smash Bros. for 3DS! Play as your very own Mii and dominate your children at their own game to show them who the REAL boss is! You'll save time trying to come up with new disciplinary methods for their atrocious conduct, and you'll save money because of all the wooden spoons you won't break while spanking them! You get the satisfaction of venting your frustrations at the little monsters who have ruined your life, and they get to walk away without any physical bruising! (Physical bruising may occur if you smack your child over the head with the Wiimote and/or Nunchuk).

This would be much better for custom characters, and I know im starting to sound like a broken record regarding this.

Not only would it give fire emblem a good character from the current game without bringing a character that might be seen as too similar to marth (Chrom/Lucina) it also has a lot of potential variety for customization options.

Plenty of weapon choices too.
Axes
Spears
Tomes
Swords
Daggers
etc...

It also looks 1000000000000% better than those things.

Hell, it works even better because of the naming options.
Each name could have it's own Robin assigned to it.

Only problem is 5 letter names only. :p
Yeah, but unless you've played Fire Emblem, you'd have no idea who those people are. It's a niche character, but you can't say that about Miis. If you've played a Nintendo system in the past five years, you know what a Mii is. Heck, they're arguably one of the biggest selling points of the Wii, making it and Wii Sports wildly popular.

Say what you will, and hate on Miis as much as you want, but you can't deny they've been far more influential to Nintendo than Robin or Fire Emblem has.

So, did I miss something? Why all the Mii talk all of a sudden? did anything happen recently that hinted at all towards the Miis?

No, but after the Hashtag business there were the Ridley wars (sprinkled with Bingo cards). Since we were directed to move on from that topic, this is the one that came up (even though it has just as little to do with tomorrow's Direct and honestly I'm surprised the mods haven't stepped in like they did so quickly with the PotD discussion).

On topic, however, what (if any) mechanics are you most looking forward to seeing during the Direct? Edge-guarding changes? Directionality explanation? How the Gamepad on Wii U and second screen on 3DS will be used? Answer back with your thoughts, and LET'S KEEP THE HYPE TRAIN CHUGGING ALONG!!

I'm okay with dual screen modes being a thing.

But it needs to be an extra mode.

Don't need no Wii U gamepad players making platforms at the bottom of the stage to save themselves....

Like Saito, I agree this would be unkind, to say the least, in what could already end up being a huge trollfest (imagine a loop of Sakurai laughing for 20 minutes as the entire Direct, or something like that as a worst-case scenario). As for newcomers, I wonder if anyone from the Shin Megami Tensei franchise has a chance of getting in. I don't know it very well so I'm not even sure they have characters that could be suitable for a game like Sm4sh, but with the upcoming SMT x FE set to release in 2014 I wouldn't be surprised if Sakurai wanted a newcomer to represent those games.

Also, I love how speculation on a release date for this game has been in the range of July/August of this year to being pushed back to 2015. Makes me laugh.... but also feel somewhat afraid.

Sigh, as much as I hate the idea of playable Miis and I still don't want it to happen, the best I will say is a Mii-based stage is better-suited, but NOT no playable ones. Even then I worry bout the inappropriate ones that may be in the background... like say they do get a stage... The ones in the background are based on the ones that the current players in the match have on their system. Obviously that won't be fun for some.
Like I said, the furthest I'll allow em in the game is a stage for them, but no playable ones.

So after doing a 30-second read of his megami tensei wiki page, I can see how it would be awesome to have this guy in Sm4sh. I have found my pipe dream newcomer!

DEMI-FIEND FOR SM4SH!

So much hatred towards Mii... so much straw grasping for reasons against Mii's inclusion... SMH... I'm going to enjoy laughing at all the butthurt reactions and nervous breakdowns when they are eventually confirmed. :troll:

Smash 6?

That's impossible, even if you count both Smash games as 4 and 5.
It says that Smash 6 is scheduled for 2015 meaning it would be a separate project from 4 and 5 so it is possible. Still, this is very strange.

edit: but it calls it the game for the 3DS and Wii, so that doesn't really make any sense. I wonder if someone just posted this as a joke, since this site seems to be open for anyone to make a job advertisement for anything

Maybe it's a Smash Kart, or a Smash Party game they mean. Really, I'd love that.

Anyways, I really don't know what to expect for the Direct, character wice. We could get anything from Three Newcomers, to one single veteran. You never know.
