This is the greatest day.... of my life.

I think we'll see a newcomer reveal and Snake will be announced, along with a release date, but I'm really looking forward to new gameplay.

Where was this said?
The three other game focused directs (Pokémon X/Y, Wonderful 101, Wii Fit U) were all between 19-21 minutes long, so it's a good guess. Pokémon also has an 11 minute direct in January, which is the outlier.

Ridley is going to be announced
No he's not. If Ridley is announced (as a playable character, not anything else) I will put "SmashAdr is way smarter than me, and much sexier." as my signature! haha ;)

All you people saying that this event is "timed for the West" are forgetting that it'll be broadcasting at about 9 AM in Japan. That's not so early that most people over there will miss it.

So... what we can reasonably expect as a bare minimum:

1. One newcomer
2. Veteran footage
3. Stage footage of stages shown since E3
4. One new stage for each game
5. Info about different modes
6. Item (including ATs and Pokeball) footage
7. One bombshell (as in something that's going to make these boards collectively crap themselves) that's not character related
8. Final smash of Villager, Rosalina, or Megaman
9. New final smash for a popular veteran
10. 10-20 minute run time

If you want to keep your hype low to avoid disappointment, this is a pretty safe bet.

What I'm personally expecting:

1. Two newcomers (One at the beginning and one at the end. One will be an obscure character and the other will be someone insanely popular)
2. 2-3 "safe bet" veterans (like Yoshi and Wario) and at least one people have considered questionable (like PT and Ike) with one of any of these veterans being majorly reworked
3. Veteran footage
4. Stage footage of stages shown since E3
5. 2-3 new stages for each game
6. Info about different modes with a big reveal of how Adventure Mode works
7. Item (including ATs and Pokeball) footage
8. 2-3 AT/Pokemon reveals
9. Final Smash of Villager, Rosalina, or Megaman
10. Montage of final smashes for returning veterans
11. Ballpark release date (eg; Fall 2014/ Q4 2014/etc)
12. Teaser for E3 followed by something Smash related being released in the eshop
13. 20 minute run time

The only thing im worried about is the stream, will nintendo be able to keep it stable? E3's stream from them (on at least their site) was a mess of lag, but hopefully it wont have as many eyes on it so it can run better.

That's reasonable. I think we're going to get that and hopefully a lot of answers to questions we've been asking (Pryrosphere's stage hazard, Zelda's down b) and a clearer look at the games mechanics.

I honestly wouldn't be surprised to see a new comer to start the direct and one to close it out though, or it not a new comer then a "controversial" veteran, like Mewtwo or Snake. That might just be wishful thinking, though.

The real thing to ponder is this:
Is the new Smash Bros specific Twitter indicative of a sooner or later release?

Is the new twitter's purpose to release upcoming information and stir the hype pot? Or is its job to be there through the early stages of release/ pre prelease with things like updated daily photos/ stages (like in Brawl)?

If it's there to hype up everything we may have a longer wait. If it's there to announce things in real time and interface with active players we may have a way sooner release than expected.

Personal opinion: Since Nintendo's recent style is to release everything world wide shortly after a direct, I truly believe this game will be out sooner rather than later. Nintendo has had a habit of directs saying "Prease enjoy this game next week...." At the same time I think that they will wait until after E3 for release. I think mid to late June is my prediction. But that's just, like, my opinion, man.

A whole Smash Bros focused Direct? I wonder how that'll play out.
If anything, HYPE HYPE HYPE!

Smash in August for Wii U to keep up momentum and on the 3DS in November to give the Wii U version some solo time to be a system seller while still having a holiday Smash makes sense to me. I have no real reason to believe that, but it makes sense to me.

I would love to see a reveal trailer that showed up a new veteran or two with a new comer. Have Ike debut before Chrom in a Fire Emblem themed trailer, for instance.

Well, I mean, there are quite a few outlets through which people can watch. The Smash website, YouTube, the Nintendo site itself...

In regards to the release: We won't see it until Q3 or 4. PoTD reveal that even though it looks great, it's still in Alpha or Beta.

I think its safe to say this will be 40 minute to an hour. It will most likely be someone explaining the newcomers Rosalina & Luma/Little Mac in the same fashion as the first one.

I also think it'll showcase changes to veterans, and of course that usual fast montage of random battles.

I can see it opening with something like

"This...is battlefield. This is where numerous fighters come from all around the universe to compete in the tournament of Super Smash Bros." etc

Probably that lame guy named Adam, who sits in his chair and narrates everything.

And I highly believe they'll showcase new characters. They wouldn't make something like this to waste anyone's time.

Yeah, I have that fear too. Especially after the last one. Was it just me that it stopped working for?

Plus I doubt that quit as many people will be watching it live. Not EVERYONE is a Smash fan, and out of all those that are, some are busy since it's a business/school day.

@ Pazzo. Pazzo. I don't know about all that... I agree we probably won't till Q3, but I'm fairly certain it's close to done and the last bit of work will be a matter of balancing. Beta maybe, Alpha no way.

I'm personally hoping for Ice Climbers and/or Jigglypuff to be a confirmed veteran, and Palutena/Geno/Yarn Kirby as a newcomer.
Mewtwo would be pretty awesome as well.

My expectations:
1.) Random footage showing stuff we haven't seen in action yet. Lucario, Peach, Diddy, Zelda, the new ATs, the new items, and the new stages.
2.) Final smashes being shown
3.) Snake or Takamaru confirmed
4.) In depth discussion of Little Mac, Rosalina, and Takamaru if he's confirmed.
5.) Adventure mode discussion

I expect no surprise reveals.

Wishlist:

- Shulk reveal to start off
- Extensive overview of Shulk and his stage, Gaur Plains, Bionis' Leg or Eryth Sea
- Sakurai says stage hazards will be personalized, you can either shut them off completely or made them appear less often (refers to Metal Face in the Xenoblade stage)
- My Music returns and it contains a MASSIVE collection of music, more than double than Brawl's (using Xenoblade and his majestic OST as an example)
- General footage of both WiiU and 3DS, with both already announced and new stages/items, while Sakurai says that the absence of Subspace Emissary-like modes gave him the time to put an incredible amount of content for multiplayer battles
- Event mode makes a full, glorious comeback: Sakurai makes three examples, with one having Yoshi as the playable character. His event shows that his Up-B has been reworked to be more similar to how it works in Yoshi's Island. Says event matches are different between versions.
- Snake reveal. He's a little different and appears as he does in Ground Zeroes as Big Boss. Sakurai reveals alternate costumes for him, including his Brawl and Guns Of The Patriots appearance. Hints at many many costumes for more characters.
- Stage Editor returns. It's incredibly better than Brawl's. Has original elements not appearing in the normal stages like different backgrounds and blocks etc... WiiU's version has HD background of 3DS's stages and viceversa (if you have both version, you can port them). It's possible to add stage hazards (only the ones already in the game) and makes an example creating a Final Destination-like stage with a Mario background, and then adding the Yellow Devil. Basically, stage hazards occupy a precise space as well.
- Sakurai says to look forward to E3 for other new info and says that the game is coming out in the Summer for both versions.
- The Direct ends but after a while the Smash logo reappears: it's the reveal trailer of Professor Layton. Even though it's just a tease of a minute and nothing more, with very little footage of him.

Also, I just want to put this on the record, in case it turns out I have psychic dreams.

In another thread, I mentioned how, two separate times, I had a dream about Peach and Toon Link being revealed, like less than a week before each was revealed, respectively.

Before I knew about this Direct, last night I had a dream about the April Direct revealing Ridley and Takamaru. I don't even know much about Takamaru at all, but Ridley was shown at the beginning with Takky at the end.

I'm not predicting or expecting this, but it'd be pretty crazy how I've been able to dream-predict at least 3 things without any prior knowledge.

Toon Link and Peach happened before I joined here, before I even knew about reveals that make sense. At those times I just thought they were random.

Sure it did make sense, but I didn't know at the time. So maybe I'm psychic.

>psychic
>mewtwo
>****, mewtwo confirmed
We are both fellow prophets of the Smash games. My first post in the SSB4 Dreams Thread mentions a Sakurai Miiverse post where he's saying he would reveal a new character within the week because he though the hype was dying down. Then Pikmin & Olimar happen within that timeframe! o.o

I swear, last night there was this one dream scene where I was looking at a webpage that detailed a Smash-centric Direct. Except it was in a very ambiguous shot that detailed nothing on how it came out when I woke up and checked Miiverse. So behold, Sakurai. A gift to see into the future. The greatest COOOOOOOLLL!

But seriously, I'm so HYPED! Two things in particular I'm excited to hear from this Tuesday:

1: The reveal of "character customization"

This feature ever so behind the scenes, tantalized through some ambiguous Word of God statements, will have the spotlight for an in-depth rundown. You know, this right here is a pretty big deal. It's what will make this game stand out amongst the rest of our Smash experiences. What will judge it as a repeat of Brawl and Melee or the definitive experience of this game. Also, if this is about moveset editing and tailoring a playstyle around your favorite characters, this could mean that clones can be eliminated through custom methods!
2: How what we get through this event will affect E3 2014

45 minutes completely dedicated to Smash Bros. with no prior event to cover like what we got at E3 2013? An event of this scale doesn't warrant a "Developer Direct 2.0". Just think of all the menus, modes, characters, stages, mechanics, extras, and everything else in between. And let's not forget about the possibilities of new full-on gameplay matches to analyze, a possible demo or open-access beta, and THE FREAKIN' RELEASE DATE GLOBAL OR OTHERWISE! I wonder what sort of information, depending on the scale of the upcoming Direct, will be given at the biggest game conference of the year. Maybe a treat like a character reveal or some extra features not shown in the Direct.

We learned about Mario Kart 8's release date when?
In the February Direct right? Correct me if I'm wrong.
And that game is coming out in May. That's a 3 month heads up.

The earliest we can see Smash if we are to learn it's release date in April is July, and knowing Nintendo it would probably be late July.
If not early to mid August at the earliest.

Here are my expectations for this Smash Direct:
1) Explanation of different game modes with the focus on singleplayer modes
2) a few veterans confirmed + 1-2 newcomers
3) maybe some more stages
4) more items being shown
5) online-features
6) how you can interact between WiiU and 3DS version

If this were all to be in this Smash Direct, the Direct would shown enough of the game to get us hyped again after the less hype-producing month March.

Presumably your fridge.
I'm expecting a release date, a newcomer and 1 to 2 veterans.
I'm expecting this along with an explanation of some new features, like the mentioned customization and how the new adventure mode will work. Based on past single game directs I'm gonna cast my lot with the others predicting a 20 minute or so run time. 45 minutes for a game is highly unlikely.

I am so unbelievably excited about this right now! Tuesday really can't come soon enough for me!

Yeah I don't see a release earlier than Q3. I'd love to be wrong. I'd love to make a bet though, anyone want to bet? I think it's fun to bet our signatures for Smash Bros stuff lol

I remember when I thought that game would be released in the summer; I wasn't the mad one, everyone else was! Them and their preconceived notions. Long story short, I was incorrect. I don't want to make the same bet, I am not insane.

This is the first time in forever we've gotten a possible chance at a newcomer (especially with the drought of character recently).
We're all just a little hyped.
That is completely and utterly understandable; I was on hiatus, so I haven't necessarily experienced the drought. In fact, I am more excited about the Wolf Among Us: Chapter 3 release to be perfectly honest (also on April 8th). That might change, but as of current, I am just humoring myself. There is obviously going to be a fairly significant reveal, so the outlandish speculation is to be expected.

My only want is Lady Palutena, but I'm expecting more footage, new info, and a release date. Nothing too major.

Well, not much has changed.

I've still gotta work on posting less.
A few have become mods.
And everyone's in mass hysteria because of the lack of reveals.

Just like every other day.

I live in New York and I am not good with timezones. Can someone please help me and tell me when does the Direct start for me?
You'll be at 4 p.m. like me.

Edit: Wait I'm wrong.
6:00 P.M. is the right one.
I got confused. :urg:

If the timezone converter I used is to be believed, it would start at 7 PM for you.

EDIT: Or not. My timezone converter is garbage.
