Just something random about dair: I feel like even though it's really weak ad easily meteor cancelled, it's a good edgeguarding tool since it's still send the opponent down, which usually leading to a dsmash kill

Or they could be somebody who doesn't have a ****ty upB.
I.e. pichu :3

I remember awhile back, theLake tried to kill my pichu with dair and i went straight through it.

But i could see it being a setup on fox/falco kinda, but they could always just ledgetech and stuff...

I've gotten kills with dair against marth a few times in tournament. Killed a DK with it once too. Certainly not a great move but it can do stuff sometimes.

I DAIR say you're right

And I was about to say "Wow, someone else is posting on the zelda boards at 4:42 am? What are the odds?!" and then I realized it's almost 8am where you're at.

Time to go get less than 4 hours of sleep before I've gotta leave for the Norcal regional. I wish I was one of those people who could play well without sleep. I also wish I was one of those people who was smart enough to get some sleep the night before I tournament. Oh well, I'm sure I'll do fine. I can feel it in my toes (which are imbued with electrical power)

I awoke this morning to realize that the tournament is in fact tomorrow. Maybe now I will actually get some sleep before it XD

Got to the tournament and was playing really badly. Took a while to warm up. Once I did I won the vast majority of friendlies. Then the tournament started and I got wrecked LOL. In my defense (WARNING: Johns ahead) it was a pretty bad pool for someone going all zelda. SS, Germ, a fox, a sheik, and a peach.

-SS destroyed me as he usually does. I would really like to see him play against another zelda player at the level he's at now (I'm not talking about sets from back in the days where Kawn played). He makes the matchup seem impossible.
-Playing Germ was pretty fun because his link is so much different from the other links I've played before. He plays really smart. I think he 1 and 2 stocked me or something though.
-The fox beat me pretty badly. It was someone I've played before and he had already figured out most of my usual tricks haha
-The sheik didn't know what to do at first so it was really even. Then he figured out how to effectively camp me with needles game 2 and that gave him the edge he needed to win the set.
-Which leaves me with the peach player. Much easier matchup than the others and I'll never complain about having to play against a peach with zelda. I didn't have a very hard time with it but yeah, it was my only win. :/

And so, I went 1-4. After watching some of the recordings I realized that I was playing REALLY slow and bad. I'm not sure yet if it'll motivate me to play again for a while so I can redeem myself or if I'll just drop it again and stick with Project M where zelda is actually a good character LOLOLOLOLOL. We'll see.

The highlight of the tournament for me was probably a friendly set I played against Lovage's Falco. I had a pretty nice Nayrus>Kick kill followed by a combo to dair kill the next stock.

Was this rule 6?
Because why else would you get SS and germ in the same pool.
That also seems like poorish seeding on the TOs part, since SS and Germ played all the time.

i don't like dair spike

but i still do it sometimes

i experimented with her up B hit a few years ago

it's really good if you need to save your teammate

it's also fun if you catch falcon and falcon out of their up B

up B hit > go to edge > kick > feel awesome

Yeah it was rule 6. Not sure why SS and germ were in the same pool since they're in the same crew but it happened anyway lol.

GKIinfinity im proud of you

the only time I actually feel alive playing this game

is when im either being chaingrabbed by shiek as yoshi

or being needle camped into oblivion

the sheer fact that you stayed zelda

after being fisted by falcon

blown apart by link

punctured by shiek

and had lesbian sex with peach

makes me belive

that you are actually a zelda main now

im sorry

and may god have mercy on your soul

because melee wont

never again

:D

yoooo melee is a rough game.
but thats partly why its so fun.

also, Zelda's Dair could be potentially good against the ICs.
If you avoid nana during their upB (since she's an invincible super projectile), and hit Popo out of it, he will be sent too far to resync with Nana (who will be in free fall anyways) and his jump will be gone, so all he can do is UpB, and Sopo's upB is not gonna do anything if he isn't right under the ledge, sooo yea.
it'd probably be hard to setup, but i think it could work.
thoughts?

Dunno if Umbreon is trolling or not, but I think it's either even, or slight Zelda.

zelda is good vs bad IC players. good IC players won't trade hits with you like zelda wants, they'll just kill you.

recovery = edge hog > stand up > grab landing lag > zelda dies. even if you lip hug, the IC player under 100 can stand up and his body pushes zelda a little bit onto the stage and he can just grab her.

zelda's main adv in this MU is that she can control the space immediately around her and the ICs can't do much about it, they have to challenge you from a weak position. however, zelda has to hold that position by throwing out high priority moves and once the ICs isn't ****ty they can get around kicks with patience and her best tool is fsmash under a platform or something. they can DI this but it's likely, people are really bad at it for whatever reason.

i think the match is even with maybe a super slight adv to ICs on paper but i haven't played a detail-oriented ICs player that properly plays the match.

I was saying if you catch them going for upB... once they've started...
They couldn't avoid it if you caught them offguard.

I don't hate it.
Its kinda hard since zelda has stuff, but ICs have stuff too.
There are also a lot of people around here who think that they are zelda players all of the sudden, so I'm expecting to play it quite a bit.

During the rare occasions where I do play friendlies anymore it's against the ICs main Choknater (AKA "I have way too many posts on smashboards"). It's really interesting how the matchups developed though. I really like the methods he comes up with to deal with matchups because it's so different from what most other people do. Honestly it's just more effective, and so I feel like if I can figure out how to beat the stuff he throws at me that I can handle other players much more easily.

For the zelda/ICs matchup he usually camps under a platform and does blizzard with nana while a desynced popo does short-hop ice blocks. Zelda is slow and doesn't have a good way of approaching from above, but the blizzard and ice block wall makes it nearly impossible for her to approach horizontally either. Essentially he'll just get the % lead and then start camping at which point I'm forced to approach. Getting caught in blizzard pretty much guarantees him a grab though, and if I try to approach from above by dropping through the platform he'll either attack (which is pretty safe) or just move to the other end of the stage and start camping there.

In general though, as with many matchups ICs can do some pretty crazy stuff with handoffs and whatnot. You definitely don't want to get grabbed. As long as you target nana and gimp her early with a kick though the matchup isn't too terrible.

Also, when ICs use upB nana will ALWAYS land right by the edge of the stage. You can just wait for her to land and punish her with a kick to the face. At that point popo may try to save her again. If he uses upB again you can wait for her to land by the edge and kick her another time, so it's not a very good idea from the ICs perspective. If SideB is used then you don't need to worry about nana being invincible and you can just try to kick them both out of the air.

Why did this turn into a matchup discussion :s

Fighting ICs with zelda: do zelda things, don't get grabbed, use multihitting smash attacks.

That would be because that is how ICs play.
At the same time, if you get them above you, what are they gonna do?
So yea. ****.

fall and air dodge because zelda has **** air coverage.

you really don't have to respect zelda overall, it's probably the sole reason why she's a bad character.

It's funny, respecting Zelda is actually worse than just not giving a damn and pooping all over her cause she's bad. :(

thats probably because ICs beat sheik, whereas Zelda goes about even with them.
Zelda is really good at separating them and killing nana.
Sheik struggles to separate them a little more, but once she does, nana is dead.
but Sopo still chaingrabs her to high percent.
The ICs silly things also hurt sheik a lot more in general.

But the ICs/Sheik MU is still pretty close, tbh. its just kind of awkward for sheik.
