That picture is quite interesting. Aside from Mario and Daisy all the other characters were DLC.

PushDustin brought up the possibility that it was all done for balance in the image, suggesting that Daisy just balanced out PP because they are both mario characters (and her name is a flower, not something Dustin mentioned just my own observation)

But if framing was the issue, why not just get rid of Mario and Daisy and put PP in the middle. It would be fitting, showing off all the current DLC characters with the first one front and center.

It does make one wonder. Doesn't mean it's Shantae, but I wouldn't be surprised if whoever the next one is will end up next to Daisy on the mural.

So the Smash Twitter uploaded this image with along with three others as a celebration of Ultimate's 1 year anniversary and the special spirit board event accompanying it.

It's all the DLC characters plus the main man Mario and.... Daisy? Now that's odd, isn't it? Why in the world does Daisy fit into this picture at all unless... she's a placeholder for the 5th FLC fighter!

And on top of that, Daisy does have some connection to Shantae speculation. We theorized that if she were to appear anywhere on the Smash mural she'd be bumping hips with Daisy. Very interesting....

I don't think its a nutcase or dumb theory at all. I am 100% for this theory right now, as I said in the newcomer thread and multiple times on twitter

Now that you mention it there's more connection between the two than you would think at first glance. They both are tomboyish, both debuted on the Gameboy systems, and both hail from sandy areas by nature. I'd say it's more connection than most of the other viable choices if the leakers are to be believed.

If not for any reason, then WHY Daisy? Hell Inkling would work better with their "YEAH!" Taunt and they'd work as the first character revealed for Smash Ultimate and were they since its initial reveal.

Yeah another great point. WHY DAISY of all characters? Heck do we even know when Shantae and the Seven Sirens will be FULLY playable? Like why is WayForward still silent on the issue?

But why would it be so important to have Mario and the two Mario newcomers surrounded by all the DLC characters? It doesn't tie in very neatly. Aside from Daisy and Mr Mustache, all the other characters are tied to Ultimate's DLC. Even if the theme was meant to be things "NEW" to Ultimate why feature Daisy, an echo and not someone completely new? Why not the first new character shown off with Inkling? Or the last from the main roster of Incineroar? It's just a glaring inconsistency which usually doesn't exist in things made by someone as OCD as Sakurai. There was a reason she was included there, and that reason may be as benign as "Piranha plant is a Mario flower and Daisy is from Mario and named after a flower" but that seems rather insignificant compared to the rest of it.

As for your point about the environment of Sarasaland, I would remind you that in addition to it's desert, the land is also comprised of a beach, ocean, European plain/cliff and a bamboo forest. Not saying that really means anything, but it is comprised of as much dry desert percentage wise as Sequin Land is. And their most prominent theme is still middle Eastern with Egypt and Turkey respectively.

Of course there is always the possibility of it all being nothing. But I had another thought too. Of the pictures shown, they all go out of their way to emphasize the number "1" Most of them having the number on display and one of them Using Sonic holding out one extended finger.

Daisy is again an outlier of this bunch as she is specifically holding out two fingers. Now Daisy is most notable in Smash for being the firs character classified as an echo. What if Daisy showing up among DLC fighters and holding up a "2" could be saying that a Fighter pass 2 is coming that will be comprised of Echos?

As of right now, our best hope for Shantae is for a post-FP DLC slot. As for FP5, my bets right now are on a TYPE-MOON character like Saber, Arcueid or Sion or if she hasn't been disconfirmed, Miku Hatsune.

SEGA makes her rhythm games, but she is owned by Crypton Future Media. Another grey area if we're being serious.

Crypton Future Media owns Hatsune Miku. SEGA is the one developing and publishing the games I believe.

For all we know Verge is getting some faulty info, but as I said before I think Shantae is more likely for post pass DLC than as part of the fighter's pass. The dream's not dead until Wayforward or Sakurai says so.

I don't think base game spirits deconfirm characters at all.

"Leakers" who only operate via text only posts are dumb. There is no way to tell if they are legit/Lucky/Really good at making educated guesses.

Plus with how they "operate" is fishy,
If the "Leaker" is right, they take credit,
If they are wrong they shift the blame on to bad "Sources"

I mean, it feels less stretching than other theories and really sounds more like a theory recap for us. Though I feel like Daisy should be standing a smidget to the right for spacing.

Yes, Shantae lives in her lighthouse which is closer to regular tropical greenery, but when I picture Sequin Land, I first picture Scuttle Town right next to it, which is distinctively desert oasis style.
Plus, the later games made it more generic dessert. The first Shantae game featured Egyptian inspired pyramids. And Egypt has greenery from the delta and the Nile.

Post pass should be the default assumption as it is. But just remember, there's no guarantee that the character Verg is hinting at is FP5. It could be the wrong order, like how he messed up Hero's placement.

Edit: Before I forget again while typing the draft, I'm filing this under "coincidence" but this anniversary tweet vaguely reminds me of the Wayforward tweet for the random 60k congrats where they reused that one Shantae art only otherwise used for the Smash Ballot.
