With all this, i want to list who i think the next 11 characters will be/want to be. I am going woth the WoL datamining that leaves us, as of now, 90 character slots. The mad man sakurai could even go further beyond!
1. Shantae. Of course. I hope she is character 5 of the FP but even if she isnt she has a high chance of coming in, along with 2 other spirits.
2. Reimu. My other indie i really want. Touhou is super duper influential on that japanese gaming scene.
3. Geno. Its his time. Sakurai has been wanting him ever since melee. Plus, most likely the new fighters wont be getting stages, but maybe just some music, and this helps Geno alot, due to how stingy SE is with music.
4. Ryu Hayabusa. The last of the NES elite other then the contra guy. No Koei Tecmo rep is odd considering how close they are to nintendo, so i feel Ryu has a chance, plus now thay more dlc is confirmed i think iamshifty is pretty legit in know ryu is comong, just not for this fighter pack.
5. Doomslayer. We pretty much are going to have every Doom game on switch. Doom is the grandaddy of all fps, and has made a huge mark in gaming history, and that is important to sakurao i feel. I think its possible to make him work without his blood and gore. He may only brong his more scifi guns thougj to avoid a crazy rating.
6. Rayman. The last of the big 3 spirits i think are getting upgraded. Ubisoft is close to nintendo, and Rayman is a classic video game character and highly requested.
7. Crash Bandicoot. A game that pits Mario vs Sonic vs Crash Bandicoot... the three mascot titans of the mid 90s... insane i tell ya. Plus imagine his trailer is litterally the OG smash commercial but the guy in the crash outfit jumps in as well to fight. Amazing.
8. Rex and Pyra. With how sakurai sounded when he was talking about the Rex mii costume makes me think this will be the only mii costume upgrade. A tag team fighter of Rex and Pyra. With on in the background while the other fights, simular to the torna expansion would be great. I am just not sure how to get Mythra in that style of gameplay. If both qere in it would have to be rex doing all the fighting save for some moves, and down be swaps pyra and mythra, which effects the properties of the attacks, but that sounds boring to me.
9. Rhythm girl. I think the rhythm heaven series needs some rep, and she would be tje best, as she can pull from all the other minigames and characters in her moveset.
10. Tales of rep. I feel Namco deserves 1 more fighter, and the Tales of series is a long running nintendo one. I feel it would be Llypd or Velvet or Yuri. The first 2 would be the most unique though.
11. A dead/forgotten nintendo franchise. Every game has included 1 of these, amd i think 1 more would be nice. Mach rider, Andy/Sami from advanced Wars, demille from Tomato adventure, Ayumi from famicom Detective club (which is getting a japanese reboot), Donbe and Hikari from shin Onigashima, and more i cannot even name i am sure.
And those are my 11 picks for the remaining datamined WoL slots.
Though I would say 11 is VERY ambitious (lets remember that when place holders like that are made, devs generally pick a number larger than they will ever reach so that they never have to go back to code in more spaces) It's still an interesting exercise, so I will play along...
1. Shantae: Of course I will list her. explaining why would be preaching to the choir in here.
2. Dixie Kong: She's been overlooked since Brawl and she definitely deserves to finally get in. I would say she is the last really relevant Nintendo all-star who isn't in yet. Every other character either isn't as relevant or doesn't have as much history as Dixie.
3. Mipha: Zelda needs representation that isn't a Link. Of all the Zelda characters that aren't currently an Assist, I think Mipha would be the best. She brings a weapon type that isn't used and water moves to counteract how half the current roster has fire attacks.
4. Geno: I think it's really his time. He has been wanted for so long and Sakurai has acknowledged the demands and agreed that he likes the character. Including Geno would really put a topper on Ultimate as the Smash game to beat all Smash games
5. Master Higgins: Does he have any real chance? No, but I would say he was just as important to the NES as Ryu Hyubusa. In fact he has more importance to Nintendo since he was created specifically so they could put the Wonder Boy series on the NES. Plus we don;t have a caveman, a skateboard rider, or a tomahawk thrower so he would be more unique than Ryu. Just won't happen...
6. Blanka: The character that ever made me care about fighting games and personally one who I think fits in the wacky nexus of video games world better than Ryu. Plus there is so much you could do with his rolling pounces and having another electric character again helps downplay the over abundance of fire users.
7. Panther or Slippy (not both): Either would expand on underrepresented species (only two cats and only one amphibian) I see Panther playing like a faster Wolf that doesn't hit as hard but jumps better and maybe even has a trap or counter move. As for slippy I see him being a joke character where all his attacks would be him screwing up. Like maybe his blaster can charge and if you charge it too long it backfires, but instead of hurting Slippy it causes a small area explosion. Or his dash attack would be him tripping and rolling for a bit. He would also be the slowest SF rep, but have the best jumping since toad.
8.Earthworn Jim: I love his character and the humor of his series and he would have a lot of moves to use. His head whip, his multiple guns, his propeller jump, he could use his buddy Snot as a grab and stage tether. Plus he just has so much personality and I would love to see how they animate his facial expressions. Plus we could get Dan Castellanetta to return to voice him which would be awesome.
9. Young Tiki: I know earlier I said no assist trophies, but it OoT Link could be represented in two ages back in Melee, then I can be ok with one character being playable as a child and an assist as an adult. Plus if she plays in any way similar to how she was in FE warriors (starting off a little weak until she charges up to wreck as a dragon) then she would be really unique.
10. Cham Cham: If we continue the trend of third parties getting at least two characters, then I nominate Cham Cham for SNK's next. I know she wouldn't be the one they pick, but none of my suggestions past maybe number 4 were ever that likely.
11. Luxray: If I thought he was even remotely likely he would be number one, but I know that just some random route 1 pokemon doesn't really stand a chance. He barely gets any attention in his home series thanks to all the competition, so him being in a crossover game just wouldn't happen. That said he is my favorite monster from my favorite video game series so I can't not wish for him... Besides Smash needs a lion in the roster and I think Luxray has slightly more chance than Lion from Codename STEAM (tho low key I would love him too)
