Wouldn't anybody else want to see Risky Boots as a playable character alongside her? What would her moveset be?

Almost entirely based on Pirate's Curse and Pirate Queen's Quest, depending on how much Shantae herself draws from the former, would make Risky anything from a full to semi-echo like Isabelle.

The main thing I have in mind is that she shares all pirate moves with Shantae, but are a bit stronger to reflect her greater experience with them and compensate her inability to swap them out for even stronger transformation attacks like the half-genie can. Rather than dancing, Risky's main ability is to summon Tinkerbats in battle to assist her.

If we were getting Both Shantae and Risky I would save give all the Pirate stuff to Risky and base Shantae off of all her abilities from her other games.

I guess it can work, but on the other hand I feel that this would make Shantae somewhat less interesting since you'd probably have to include transformations in the base moveset to fill it out without pirate gear, and as such the dances would only work to buff them instead of outright changing them. Essentially stuck between either being a watered down Shulk or Pokemon Trainer (or strictly better in the latter case if they go too far).

It's not like Shantae needs all of the gear. Fire magic is an ample substitute for the pistol, and the scimitar is iconic enough to show up even outside of pirate scenarios.

Was feeling a little nostalgic, so I decided to do some art searching like I did when World of Light was showcased.

Been thinking more about the Mario & Luigi/Shantae crossover a while back... I realize now that there's potential not only in the Mushroom Kingdom, but all the extensions of it (meaning Yoshi, Donkey Kong Country and Warioware).

In Diamond City we've already discussed the potential between Ashley and Shantae, but Hypno Baron could also pay her a surprise visit, demon summoning and whatnot for kicks, and Twitch & Vinegar could be seen hanging out with Mona.

Initially there would be two pairs of antagonistic factions, the Koopa Troop with Ammo Baron's army and Risky Boot's Tinkerbat crew with K. Rool's Kremling Kutthroats. Although squabbling at first, the pairs eventually form uneasy alliances and go to war with one another, the main trio of Mario, Luigi and Shantae being caught in the middle (and Techno Baron playing members on both sides)... until the unexpected revival of the Dark Star brings back Fawful and the Pirate Master, forcing EVERYONE to team up in order to take them down.

On the whole Mario x Shantae crossover style game, I found this via searching. Seems like others had similar thoughts.

Do you think Nintendo and the Smash team are aware of how much people want or even expect an indie to be revealed as playable in Smash Ultimate?

I'd like to think at least partially, since they do promote indies so heavily, and encourage their fans to enjoy them, too.
Although at the same time, I imagine that they're probably glancing over indies in favor of huge franchises like "Dragon Quest," since from the less hardcore fan's perspective that would be more "ultimate." Which is understandable, but hopefully they realize that the indie tree is a way better one to climb.

Also, it just occured to me as I'm writing this, but do any of you think Matt Bozon purposefully posted and deleted that "rallying" tweet to throw off people?

Haven't posted anything for a while, cause obviously news is really slow at the moment. But I'm still alive, meaning I gotta post stuff.

So I was thinking about stuff, namely things that make a character OP. You know how certain characters get really OP towards the end of some games?
Shantae kinda does, though that 999 number doesn't mean that much. She does get the invincible armor though.
You think this kinda stuff is okay for end game battles? Can a character be written well with such things, if it's done over time?
Like it's not a sudden thing that happens that is.

I know this is a bit random, but it's just something I've been thinking about. Late night stuff I guess.

Nah. It was probably some weird joke, like he said. I was confused when I saw it since it seemed like he was asking for four chances.
But one could hope it was a throw-off attempt. Still not sure why he did that and continues not to reply to anything Smash-related. What if Sakurai's like: "If you avoid breaking an NDA for x amount of time, we'll start developing Shantae as a playable character." Or worse case scenario: "We can't add her in for x reason(s), but our choice is confidential, so you can't tell anyone why." The latter wouldn't make much sense because saying your character isn't making it in if they know it already wouldn't count as breaking an NDA; so as long as they'd not give reasons without Sakurai or Nintendo's permission.

Hey look, I did that thinking-too-much thing again.

Good riddance. Hopefully it won't affect YouTube channels.

You have to remember Shantae is a half-genie, so making her too powerful for too long takes away that part of her identity. In the games proper the stuff that makes her OP is almost all optional, and because of that the plot always treats store-bought stuff like they don't exist (except HP which is infinite due to hero plot armour).

Heck, in Half-Genie Hero she's outright punished for relying too heavily on her own powers, and it could have theoretically happened with the pirate gear too.

I guess I was bringing Shantae up as an example, but not really what I was getting at. In a game standpoint, I can understand giving characters really powerful stuff to fight the last boss. Heck, I stand by the point that if giving something like that to a character at any point of the game just adds to the enjoyment then thats alright by my book. Regardless if it makes the game that much easier. I just wonder if a character can be written well if they're just overpowered. And I'm talking about the main character of a story.

TLDR: I could just be talking nonsense so don't worry about it.

Comic books are an easy place to find heroes like this. Superman, Asterix, Lucky Luke... the tension isn't really in if they're gonna win, but how. They're all pretty much unbeatable in straight combat, so they worry about stuff like fragile civilians and supplies instead.

Ah I see. Thank you. This idea has been floating around my head for a while, but I didn't want to make a Mary Sue type character.
Like a down to earth, doesn't want to hurt others kinda person. I guess I just wanted a few ideas.

All I can say is It was amazing to have shantae and shovel knight make it into smash ultimate at all given their indie status and I really hope it bodes well for them to make it in in the future. Do you think shantae still has her chance in the coming years for ultimate or is her chance far better if we get another smash game?

Her chances would increase more with a new game of her own at this rate. Though luckily Ultimate doesn't look like it's going anywhere any time soon and has more than enough time to work it's way through popular ballot choices (of which Shantae certainly qualifies as), even if unorthodox third parties or promotional first parties intervene.

Shantae has a better chance then other indie characters, in my opinion of course. A new game would help, and even more so if it's only on Nintendo Switch.

Anyways, I just heard about a slip of some news of a direct incoming. I know a lot of people were saying that all through Jan, but you guys think it's about time? I certainly hope so.

I mean at this point, Direct speculation is like waiting for the bus. The longer you wait and it doesn;t ***, the more likely it seems like it will be coming soon.

That said, I'm sure it's close. Nintendo stocks dropped when they officially lowered their projected systems sales estimate, so they need to run clean up. Right now they have been dropping a lot of little tidbits. Like the Metroid Prime 4 setback announced probably so they wouldn;t have to adress it in a direct, then all those hints about "a game ready for release and another perfect for the online system"

And on top of that there have been more and more rumors about Pokemon Gen 8 which will probably be revealed or heavily teased this month on Pokemon Day.

So something has to be coming soon. One would think...

People know there's a good amount of stuff Nintendo needs to show off. Usually they tell us at the start of the year what to expect from them.
They're more then just E3 like the other big hitters. But they seem to break their own rules all the time, so honestly I don't know anymore.
Nintendo is it's own beast. I haven't seen a company do stuff so very right, but other times so very wrong like Nintendo.

This is a Rumor, so please take it from a grain of salt.

A bit of something Supposely new for a while from the silence, but it might be not true after the Grinch Leak happened. What do you think?

He's only one of the "Original Game Supervisors" credited in Ultimate with the credit mentioning HAL Laboratory, others being from Nintendo themselves as well as Capcom, Sega, and Konami.

I think the credits just mean they're supervisors of character portrayals, so Kumizaki would be supervising the Kirby characters. His post means nothing other than he likes Dragon Quest as well as Dragonball + other anime, Majora's Mask, and other things according to his other posts. The only thing it proves is that "brave" is indeed tied to Dragon Quest, which anyone who's been reading info that's been spread around here would already know.

This is a pretty interesting video:
There are quite a couple cool ideas here, I guess...
I can see where he’s coming from, though I still see other options working better.

Speaking of, I know you were set on Daisy to represent Rotty, but now that I think about it, another character I think would work for her is Wii Fit Trainer

I don't think Rottytops would get a battle at all, because she'd be an enhanced form of her human self. That would probably be represented by schoolgirl Inkling or Isabelle.
