Here’s hoping we get some Smash direct news later today. It’s be awesome to have a huge reveal tomorrow just like how sonic was 10 years ago. Also it’s the anniversary of Shantae and the pirates curse! I think I’m gonna go replay that.

If they don't say anything in the next 20 or so minutes, I'd think that they just removed the "new" banner because there's nothing "new" to show off, and that there are no more reveals until November.

They kept the NEW on the site for 2 full months before removing it. Why remove it after barely a month this time if they weren't planning on updating it?

And 20 minutes is a crap shoot. expect some kind of announcment today or tommorow.

I actually forgot about that part with the keeping the "new" for 2 whole months. And I said 20 or so minutes because I'm pretty sure that's when they revealed the Isabelle Direct and then re-revealed it. It could be later, but I personally think it would be in a few minutes. We'll see tho.

Probably not all of them is getting in since there are other characters wanting to take that spot.

Vegaban was right for the most part, but even then, sources can sometimes be wrong and can be completely different.

Verg only leaked barely half the roster. He didn't guess Daisy, K Rool, CHrom, Dark Samus, or Richter. CHances our he still doesn't know everyone.

and I don't beleive that guy in the tweet either. All he got right was what, the E3 props or something?

You fake leakers disgust me
So you get a actual back of box or maginze page, and you don't actually take a picture of the new character.

Oh come on Connor, don't be scared.

It's all gonna be alright. :)
Except, I'm not gonna hold you. That'd just be odd. :ohwell:

Reasons.

Well, she's liked for her uniqueness, personality, charm. Her friends, and her world are very fun. Her fans are really passionate too. :)

I didn't see that part, that's pretty harsh if they did say that. I would chalk it up as someone being frustrated (with some arguments, Im guessing). Things like that happen when frustration spills over the discussion. It's not good when it borders on insults, and in some cases it might even cause a warning, but to me calling it as being toxic for not being able to manage their emotions is kind of harsh as well. I know it's hard to stay respectful when someone's not respectful to us, and really I think if it gets to that point it may be a time to either say one last thing, like about not liking the way the discussion is going and about letting go of the discussion for the time, and if it doesn't stop then ignore them or something.
For the record, I am very careful with what I consider toxic.
However, someone going out of their way to constantly twist around words and being offensive to someone definitely qualifies.
And I don't even mean in an angered way.
But in a really arrogant, obnoxious and bully sort of way.

Now someone being angered and becoming aggressive for whatever reason in a discussion isn't good either.
Since most of the time, that fury is completely unwarranted.
However, it's more about a lack of empathy than being truly toxic, in this case.

I never leave my trust on leaks. Besides, I'm currently waiting for more official smash news from Nintendo Themselves. They know we can't be hanging forever on the same bait.

I don't know who originally made it. Sorry.

So, just a few bullet points from me:

- 4 good games which have almost entirely been Nintendo exclusive and critically well received. One of which saved the DSi shop.
- one of the first indie characters and a spearhead of the metroidvania style.
- well developed character in her own right with a fun, multifaceted personality.
- expansive potential move list with magic, transformations, and pirate equipment.
- another female fighter, which we are sorely lacking
- cute and incrediblely expressive character design

I'd like to ask something. How did this thread get so big? Like, do people want Shantae that much? If so, why?
Cause it's fun to speculate about her when she has a lot of evidence that would normally be dismissed as coincidence (I certainly do 99% of the time) but yet it just keeps piling up and up to the point where I can't just dismiss it all as a string of unconnected events. There's actually a Google Doc somewhere that documents all of them but the big one is WayForward's weird radio silence regarding Smash when they're normally a pretty open company, especially during the Smash 4 days when they openly campaigned for Shantae in Smash. (also if anyone has the link to that Google Doc could someone post it, or better yet get one of the mods to post it on the first page for easy access please?)

There's also the oddly specific wording in Jammies mode (that was developed way before E3) referring to the "ultimate" slumber party and how "everyone is invited." The lack of her appearances in other indie fighting games despite having numerous cameos in other non-fighting indie games is also rather eyebrow raising. There's also more conspiratorial crap like the Arabic looking furniture in the room Sakurai was in during the Smash Direct and a couple of oddly vague tweets by people involved in Shantae such as this and this.

My general rule of thumb regarding coincidences is that one coincidence is just that, a coincidence and can be safely ignored. Two coincidence is worth an eyebrow raise for a second but can also be ignored. Three coincidences is when things start to smell fishy and you should keep your eyes open. Four or more means there's definitely something going on. The possibility of Shantae in Smash has passed this test in my opinion.

For me, I'm on board (even though I haven't actually played Shantae's games) because it's a thousand times more fun to speculate on a character with this much weird evidence surrounding her than most other characters that only have a "how popular/iconic/relevant is this character" reasons to discuss whether they're in or not.

Here are a couple of reasons why we want her:

1: She's a good Indie rep, and would be a Nindie rep, unlike Steve

2: She has amazing moveset potential, being able to use her hair as a whip, along with magic, transformations, pirate gear and items from her 4 games. The problem with creating such a moveset isn't what could she use, but what should she use.

3: She has good history with Nintendo, dating back to 2002, something other indies can't say.

As for why the thread became so big, it was because some of us found evidence for her inclusion after SK got deconfirmed.

This is pretty interesting you're interested in our line of conspiracies. Actually, quick talk, did anybody here make a legitimate conspiracy web and took a photo of it? I want to see it.

Bayonetta is not really a "hack-and-slash", since bladed weapons aren't involved in much of the combat; Bayonetta tends to use her fists more often. The Bayonetta games are considered "stylish action games" (the sub-genre of beat-em-ups pioneered by Devil May Cry and Viewtiful Joe (though calling Devil May Cry a "beat-em-up" is weird since Dante does do more fighting with swords than with his fists...)). And it's especially weird since both Bayonetta and Devil May Cry emphasize using a fairly even mix of gunplay and melee weapons (fists primarily for Bayonetta, swords primarily for Dante, though both get a pretty wide variety) to defeat opponents, so they aren't even really pure beat-em-up/hack-and-slash games — and as previously mentioned, they encourage you to perform flashy, elaborate combos rather than beating foes to a pulp in a straightforward, monotonous fashion, hence the "stylish action" label.

...Now that I think about it, the distinction between "hack-and-slash" and "beat-em-up" is weird in general, since it's really based more on what weapon (or lack thereof) the protagonist (and most of their enemies) wield (which ends up being largely an aesthetic distinction in video games) rather than how the game itself is played, which is kind of an odd way to define a genre. Seriously, if an action game hero wields a club or other non-fist blunt weapon rather than bare fists or some sort of gauntlets, do we call the game a "beat-em-up" or something different, like "bash-and-smash"? A game can't be called a "hack-and-slash" if your primary weapon doesn't cut or stab things...

Here's something completely unrelated to the present discussion, but I'm bored, the thread is moving at a very slow pace, and I I need an excuse to post. :p
I wanted to ask a quick question here: How many of you have heard of this?
ci-170429041750-960.jpg
It's really interesting, but I don't know much about it's history or anything. It's a physical version of both Mighty Switch Force! Hyper Drive Edition, and Risky's Revenge - Director's Cut in the same case/sleeve. I thought I'd just post that here, in case one of you knew something about it's origin.

I mentioned Devil May Cry as one of the progenitors for the sort of game Bayonetta is. I didn't say anything regarding Dante's odds of getting into Smash, I just got caught up in comparing and contrasting him to Bayonetta.

Actually, I haven't even played a Devil May Cry or Bayonetta game, so all my knowledge of those is second-hand stuff (mostly reading about them on TV Tropes). I have played all of the Viewtiful Joe games except for Red Hot Rumble, and there actually wasn't a huge amount of variety in Joe and Silvia's moves, so the combat in that game did tend to resemble "monotonous beatdown" rather than "flashy combos" (it didn't help that Red Hot One Hundred is the best move in the game by far when it comes to DPS, so that tended to always be what you were hitting the bosses and Elite Mooks with). Still, Viewtiful Joe did start up the "stylish action" sub-genre along with Devil May Cry, since it graded your performance and actively encouraged you to play well.

I stand by my prediction that Patricia Wagon will be the assist accompanying Shantae as an extra Wayforward rep.

Before you mention anything, this is Females vs non-females with Pokémon being undefined unless with gender-defining features (Pikachu), and dual gender fighters being their default. (Dark Samus is Genderless)

While it's been worse, there's still a big disparity between Males and Females.

Not counter alt skins(like female Robin and Corrin, Wendy), we have Daisy, Peach, Zelda, Rosalina, Bayonetta, Samus, ZSS, Isabelle, Wii Fit Trainer, Lucina, Palutena, and Inkling out of the 72 size cast only 12 are female. Thats a bit low. Getting more female characters is never a bad thing(Shantae, Medusa, Dixie Kong, Lip, Ayumi, ect)
