How are we sorely lacking in female fighters??

Out of 72 characters here are your females.
:ultcorrin::ultrobin:ultvillager::ultpikachu::ultpokemontrainer::ulticeclimbers:
Out of the remaining 60 here are your alt females, but their promo costumes are male.
:ultjigglypuff::ultduckhunt::ultlucario::ultgreninja::ultgnw::ultrob::ultmewtwo::ultpichu:
Out of the remaining 54 these are some that go either way or none at all.

That's 46 male characters compared to the the 12 female.
In that count for men there aren't any costumes that switch between male and female but it is for females. So it's actually 10 females to 46 males...

That's how we're sorely lacking.

A sad, sad place... may I have hugs? <3
I agree we need more female fighters. 1/4 of the roster being female just doesn't seem very fair, since plenty of girls play Smash. We need more waifus.
Heh, cute avatar!

Now, I don't want more girls in Smash, just to please the people that say we need more girls in media, just for the sake of having more girls. I think we need more, just because there are tons of good female characters out there that would be great in Smash, and that I'd love to see!

Also, more waifus is always good, yes. :)

I’ve checked to see who the popular starter for gen 7 and it isn't litten(inceniroar) it is actually rowlet (decidueye) so I got a feeling he should be the gen 7 rep and verge would be wrong he actually has a support thread

But it happens to be this GIANT roster mostly of existing characters and limited amount of newcomers so far??

So we have around 12 definite females, six definite half/halfs, though I think that Jigglypuff's confirmed to be a female Jigglypuff. Lucario and Mewtwo are definitely masculine in their voices, and the rest really could go either way or are genderless. For my basis for Mewtwo's instance, in the game, it's genderless, but in the anime (which seems to be the basis for Mewtwo's character in Melee) it's very likely a male. And the same could be said for Lucario and possibly Greninja, who has an 87.5/12.5 Male/Female ratio in its game, so it's more likely than not they are males.

Oh just adding more girls just for the fact that they are girls is dumb and sexist. Adding more female characters that happen to be great video game characters or from big series is what the call is.

Another reason I want Elma even though I haven't played her game: female and a woman of color, something we don't have at all in our human cast unless you count Ganondorf.

If Sakurai were to skip Elma, a woman of color, for Rex, another white boy, it would be quite a shame.

Of the 74 characters, 13 are female. 16 if you count characters who can be either (Corrin and Robin) and Dark Samus (who has no gender). I guess technically you could count all the Ponemon but Mewtwo if you really wanted, but they do not have defined genders aside from the female Pikachu skin.

Additional female characters, especially with them readily available (Dixie, Medusa, Shantae, etc) are needed.

Double post was by accident, but yeah I agree as much as I want to see more female characters, they should be added on their own merits rather than to fill a quota

I was trying to give everything the benefit of the doubt. Like brawl Lucario is basically male or demonic if you remember him saying "unleash the power of aura" in his final smash. I wanted to include jigglypuff into female, but... I guess you can't really assume. What if he wants to just look pretty. : )

I mean, it's not like we haven't already had characters included to fill quotas, like Roy and Corrin.

It's not sexist.
I 110% agree it's not OK, but not having good ratio representation is not great either. They are very limited in what they can do, though. In the grand scheme of things women are just actually moving past the damsel in distress motif. So eh.

whoops. Know that I said all of their names out loud when I placed them on the list.

is it really? I just grouped them together like the website. I just assumed that male trainer could have all male pokemon and vice versa.

Ivysaur is likely male in Smash. All the starters have a 87.5% chance of being male. Without gender differences, it's almost guaranteed it's male.

Yes, the last thing this fanbase needs is a SJW mindset.

Also, I want Ms. Pac-Man to be in here, if only so Bamco could acknowledge her again...

nope its female it has the same voice as May's Ivysaur in the japanese version whereas ivysaur in Bulbasaur's mysterious gardenr (*** version) had a different voice.

That's wrong. R.O.B's trophy description refers to him as a male. Plus, Lucario and Mewtwo have male voices, so it's even less.

umm :dizzy:
And is also referred to with male pronouns.

Let's try this again:

Definitely Female: :ultbayonetta::ultisabelle::ultlucina::ultpalutena::ultpeach::ultdaisy::ultrosalina::ultsamus::ultzelda::ultzss:
Female with Male alt::ultinkling::4miigun::ultwiifittrainer:
Probably Female: :ultjigglypuff: (Uses Female Trainer hats for alts), :ultsheik:(Is Zelda, and uses female pronouns for trophy descriptions, but has been seen with male pronouns before)
Genderless::ultdarksamus: (Is a parasite that has taken the form of Samus, a female)
Could go either way: :ultpichu:
Male and Female Duo: :ulticeclimbers:
Male with Female alt::ultcorrin::4miibrawl::4miisword::ultpokemontrainer::ultrobin:ultvillager:
Genderless (because Robot), but uses male pronouns: :ultmegaman::ultrob:
Probably Male: :ultduckhunt: (Fan-made name for the dog is Mr. Peepers), :ultgreninja:(Gender Ratio*),:ultlucario::ultmewtwo:(use male voice),
Male with 1 Female alt::ultbowserjr:
Definitely Male: :ultbowser::ultbowserjr::ultfalcon::ultcloud::ultdiddy::ultdk::ultdoc::ultfalco::ultfox::ultganondorf::ultike::ultkingdedede::ultkrool::ultkirby::ultlink::ultlittlemac::ultlucas::ultluigi::ultmario::ultmarth::ultmetaknight::ultgnw::ultness::ultolimar::ultpacman::ultpikachu::ultpit::ultdarkpit::ultridley::ultroy::ultchrom::ultryu::ultshulk::ultsimon::ultrichter::ultsnake::ultsonic::ulttoonlink::ultwario::ultwolf::ultyoshi::ultyounglink:

*If you want to count them, :squirtle::ivysaur::4charizard: would be "Probably Male" due to gender ratios.

With only 15/72 fighters falling on the Female side of the chart (before, but not including, "Genderless"), I think it's safe to say that we should get at least one more, that being the HGH.

So completely unrelated but given that the Pokemon in Smash are already clearly based on their anime versions for the most part, how would anyone feel to the out there pick of Team Rocket as a Pokemon newcomer ever? Not like this game, but I mean at ANY point?

Team Rocket should get in, with Meowth, Arbok, Weezing, and maybe Wobbufett.

You could also switch Arbok and Weezing out for whatever other 'mons they use in the anime but idk, they only use those two and Meowth in Yellow and LGPE (of course that would mean Wobbufett would be a no...).

Except they aren't. May's Bulbasaur was voiced by Miyaki Ito. Ivysaur in Smash is voiced by Tomoko Kawakami, a different voice actress. Added onto that, Ash's Bulbasaur is voiced by *another* female voice actress: Megumi Hayashibara. So we can't extrapolate gender from voice alone.

I mean in terms of human Pokémon characters represented by their Pokémon I’d like to see make it in this game, my heart’s still set on Cynthia, but I wouldn’t be too opposed to the idea of Team Rocket. The only other “villain” I could see from this series is N, but he doesn’t really have a consistent set of Pokémon to chose from

I'd be happy about it, considering

1: They're who you think of as the villains of Pokemon, as opposed to Mewtwo.

2: There are really no comedic villains in Smash, with the closest being Dedede and Bowser's M&L adaptations. Even then, none of them are known for being comedic like J,J and M are.

3: Are a few of the only characters recurring in every gen, besides Ash and Pikachu.

4: they're one of the few non-video game characters who'd actually have a place in Smash (the others being R.O.B., Hanafuda, Sakurai, Reggie, Iwata and (Insert other important Nintendo Employee here))

See through pants vs not see through: Go!

As nice as her legs are, I like me a bit of mystery ;) so I vote not see through.
I don't care, as long as she's playable.

I thought we were done with talking about Pokemon. :urg:

Oh well...
Well then how about we combine. What Pokémon would Shantae have if Pokémon existed in her world?

Going to check Google to see if anyone already answered this.

EDIT: Found this.

No thanks, on top of there being more Gen 1 when the rest of Pokedex has been largely ignored by both Smash and Gamefreak, it would just bloat the Pokemon roster even further.
If we're gonna get a """team rocket""" rep, just make it Mewoth. You can do a reuglar, run of the mill Meowth, Team Rocket's Mewoth and then Alolan Meowth, all on the same character. It'd fill the same niche without bringing in a ton of unneeded fluff.

Wasn't Ivysaur speculated to be female because of the bulb on its back or something? I remember hearing something about that.

A line from Smashpedia:
  • It could be possible that this Ivysaur is a female because, if the camera is positioned correctly a yellow seed is shown. And on the female sprite for Venusaur the same yellow seed is shown.
