I wonder if that is guaranteed. Dirty bomb equals death at all percents?
Love how easily you go from a b-air to a reverse CS, like at 1:10. And you're sooo good with going from CS charging to b-air, that speed, man (example 2:31)! I've tried it many times, and you have to be really fast/ precise in order to hit a grounded opponent with that (otherwise b-air goes right over their head).Some games vs a good zero suit, made some mistakes but you can see how constantly bairing her shield got her ready to up b oos, then i start empty hopping to bomb retreat to bait it out and punish it
I also kept forgetting she can jump out of flip kick
Back to the ZSS match: I also notice you mix-up what is normally expected after doing Samus' d-throw. You often waited for ZSS to coming falling down after a d-throw, then went for dash attack, and it seems to work well!Double jump -> drop bomb -> fast fall u-air -> bomb hits -> up B
is one of the most practical bomb set ups (true combos) because of the air movement down b gives to avoid incoming approaches and when your u-air hitbox is ready to hit then that's the time where you move back into your almost detonationg bomb.
Except for marth. That guy is a ****** in disguise. Every movement he makes has him become shorter than Kirby.Past 100% your invincibility goes really quick, so either it ended that quick and i caught her on the first few frames, or i caught on the first frame of a jump from the ledge or something. And yeah SH Bair is pretty amazing so if characters are tall enough to be hit by it I generally kinda spam it
Thanks for posting the full matches. It really helps to see the combos in practice like that! My favorte match was the one with Bowser Jr. I need to learn how to break jab combos like that... which reminds me. I've been curious to know if there is guide anywhere that tells you in which manner to DI for the most popular moves of all characters. That would do wonders for everyone's gameplay. I also noticed those back to back up tilts. Seems like that first one lost its ending lag because that second one came out quick. Also, I'm fairly certain you could have avoided that first death if you kept bombing your way back to the stage. Actually, I think you could benefit from more bomb usage in general.@ MegaRiff as requested some full gameplay from me. I intentionally kept the matches where there is some ugliness, it's generic gameplay, I make no claim to being pro.
You can see I still don't always convert from starter to combo perfectly (far from it, more like ~30%), it's going to be many months still... particularly against the low-combo window characters like Ness (and wi-fi).
The Ness and I behave oddly initially because we know each other and randomly met on for glory. The Rob just plain gave up, he was actually a decent player, he just got aggressive after a few rounds of very good projectile spacing and it all broke down. ROB has also been my punching bag for several months now...
I'm also trying to trump like crazy this past week, it's my whole focus really for a little bit, so I look a bit silly at the edge game.
Thanks for the criticism! This is exactly what I was looking for, an outside perspective.Yeah absolutely @ MegaRiff I should/could have bombed my way back, in fact I should have thrown a missile out first and avoided him interrupting my tether altogether and putting myself in that bad situation. I also agree more bombs in general, I don't shift my momentum around enough which makes me predictable. Criticism welcome!
I don't think there is a guide, but I too would love to have one if someone were to go to the trouble and compile it.
Looking at your playstyle I feel your biggest problem is you're comfortable at long range and uncomfortable at the mid-range where Samus actually works well. In your overall spacing you are just a bit too far away from your opponent. Because you're a bit too far, your dash attack is landing flush, you want it to cross up. You're throwing out f-smash and it's whiffing and/or getting you punished, you really want to use up-tilt. F-smash is good at low % to set up tech chases and in a few combos as well as at high percent to kill. It's very bad as a poke. It has too much end-lag and deceptively short range. Change all of those f-smashes into up-tilts and you will get a pile of benefits: it hits SH approaches, it's more active frames, it sets up combos, much less end-lag. You essentially want to be fighting at the f-tilt/up-tilt range and just outside, both mario and wii-fit and many other characters have tiny little limbs so that's where you have advantage.
It sounds silly, but have you cleared all-star on hard? You can try and carefully space missiles and throw f-smashes to beat it with Samus, and that can work, but if you want to just breeze through it, toss out up-tilts followed by up-air and up-B. It gives you a lot of targets that enjoy getting uncomfortably close within their own tilt/smash ranges and lets you feel out the ranges of the whole cast if you're not completely familiar with them yet.
In terms of basics you need to roll less and replace it with SHAD, when moving all the way across the stage, just run. Use uair and upb way way more. People should not be jumping above you as much as your friend did. I kept expecting you to jump and uair or upb and didn't see it. When your opponent is right on the ledge, push down so you don't grab the ledge so your upb keeps going (you had an opening at like 4:00 in the first video for example plus you were regrabbing and wouldn't have had ledge invulnerability anyway, you were lucky not to get punished for that). You gotta dirty bomb on a shield break at 59%! Robin might have too much traction right in the middle of the stage though. That said, when you do punish with fsmash, angle it up for extra damage and knockback.Please criticize as you see fit. One loss and one win in the interest of fairness.
Yes, I need serious improvement.
Well, thanks. Granted, this was Day 2 of my Wii U experience, and my basics from the 3DS version aren't too solid here yet. I'm also getting used to using an actual controller for Smash again, namely the Classic Controller(though I've found my perfect control scheme already).In terms of basics you need to roll less and replace it with SHAD, when moving all the way across the stage, just run. You use your charge shot too readily in the neutral when it is easy to shield. Hold on to it. Play mind games. Save it for when you know you can hit with hit.
You are way under-using a variety of Samus' moves. I don't think you used a dtilt (or utilt) in the entirety of those two matches. You didn't use zair offensively/for spacing, just when you were off stage. You also didn't use bomb. It can be used for changing up recovery, covering your retreat, or for offstage gimps.
Everyone starts somewhere and improves.
Unrelated, this is my most recent potato (accidentally recorded in 1/4 speed slow motion) open in youtube then put this in your javascript console:
vid = document.getElementsByClassName("video-stream html5-main-video")[0];
vid.playbackRate = 4.0;
If someone want to upload it with a capture card, PM me and I'll send you the replay.

then to change it back
vid = document.getElementsByClassName("video-stream html5-main-video")[0];
vid.playbackRate = 1.0;
Ohhhhhhhhhh... I can't believe I didn't think about the Screw Attack item. Not cool, man. That actually fooled me. lol Of course, Samus would probably be broken if she could actually do this. So it makes sense. Looking at it again, I can see the emblem on her breastplate. Silly me.No customs actually. The screw attack item makes the 1st jump height really high for some reason.
Based on his playstyle, I don't think its bunzy, but he's a pretty good rosaluma nonetheless. Nice game, but just a few to point out, that I'm sure you're already aware of.So... while trying out Samus with her new changes in For Glory, I stumbled upon an opponent who's name sort of triggered something.
I don't know if it's THE Dabuz, but I felt pressured the whole match either way. I've never made so many mistakes in a FG match as Samus, ever. (Heck, I didn't even pivot Ftilt once, I think).
Rosalina is hard as nails, but at least I can hold my ground as Samus better than with my other mains.
(The only work around I see against her is "distract" her with projectiles for her Down B to leave her open for a grab, not sure if this works with offline reflexes, though).
Sorry if it's a bit painful to watch. Really, the pressure was real.
You rolled a lot less, which is good. You used (and to be fair landed) a lot of throws, I wouldn't throw so much. Remember to pummel once when you land a throw just for stale queue reasons (I actually didn't do great at that in my Megaman video above). Use downthrow for better follow ups than fthrow or bthrow. Those are basically just for setting up offstage kill attempts. Watch your getup options. You jumped up off the ledge every time, that's how he got the read on his neutral b at the end. You should ledge drop, jump away and zair if someone locks themselves into a charge up move on the ledge.Two more matches showing the Samus vs Roy MU on Wii U. One win, one loss, in order.
I believe I improved my Samus play from the last ones shown, but criticize as you see fit.
my friends that i play with most often tell me i need to use zair more but that second stock specifically is a prime example of why i shy away from using it more than a few times per match and prefer sh fair over sh zair as my zoning tool.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yiTgOBQpH4A
ESAM goes Samus game three, pretty interesting, haven't seen it before. decent 1st stock
Thanks!Based on his playstyle, I don't think its bunzy, but he's a pretty good rosaluma nonetheless. Nice game, but just a few to point out, that I'm sure you're already aware of.
I think you could have gotten a lot more milage out of zair. Since Rosalina's so tall, she's easy to peg with it. Like, Im pretty sure you can spam zair and still be pretty safe. If you connect with the heavy hitbox, you can often convert those into dash-attack>uair as well. Even on recovering from ledge, if she's too far from fair, or uair, throw out the zair.
Also, I think you could have gone for more falling u-air>jab, instead of nair or bair into his shield. It just requires a little less commitment and at mid percents, is pretty safe on shield.
Finally, upb OOS. Enough said. Good game though man!
Don't go crazy with uair, but if your in a situation where its a matter of whose uair comes out first, samus' is frame 5 and rosalina's is frame 8, so yours should come out earlier and it autocancels when you hit ground. You can use it as an approach option too. Just run towards and SH>falling uair. If they shield, go for a jab, but if you catch them in it, then immediately upb. Its a good way to put on some shield damage or catch them in a screw attack and do some real damage.Thanks!
I really should have used more nair. You'll notice whenever I felt backed into a corner my mental flowchart foced me to either grab, or do something stupid. (Like that one time I OOS'd way too early).
Uair on the other hand... It's hard to be over Rosaluma as it is, and not get Uaired forever (or Usmashed) but I'll definitely try it as a mix up next time!
And definitely more Zair. It's so unlike me to not use it more, especially against tall characters.
Thanks for your advice. Samus is such a great character, and if I used her more, I'm sure the win:lose ratio would look totally one-sided in my records
Neat video. Thanks for sharing it.my friends that i play with most often tell me i need to use zair more but that second stock specifically is a prime example of why i shy away from using it more than a few times per match and prefer sh fair over sh zair as my zoning tool.
Roach better than Xyro in standard tournament setting confirmed. Only a few games in and disappointed Roach isnt picking up on some predictable charge Shot patterns from xyro, hopefully he catches on in later games (that's not to fault xyro, might be trying to condition Roach in to shield, if not then yeah it is)Interesting that if they had been on for-glory 2 stock rules, Roach actually would have won a few.
