Sakurai realized he has turned Samus into a sex object?

No, it's general common sense, but maybe not around Samus or Nintendo fanboys. :p

Yeah, but Nightmare didn't have a skintight suit, did he?

And what was your question?

OK, so I hope people here now agrees that Nintendo is using sex appeal to present ZS Samus, so we can end that discussion (and I still think she's presented as a sex object, but that discussion is leading nowhere so let's end that). Do you think ZS Samus will grow strong enough as a standalone character and maybe have a spin-off game or two? Maybe there will even be a third person adventure in the main series? (who said 3-D Metroid games must be like Prime?) If Zelda and Mario did great in third person, so can Metroid.

:D

I think the point is that situation shouldn't really be present in smash brothers....

on topic: seriously, get over it please, you don't complain that DK has no clothes on now do you, or yoshi, neither do I but I don't complain about Zamus either
Missed the point much?

Oh I know it's irrelivent, just wondering why. Especially when you sseem to go on about how it's a bad thing, yet in your sig, you've got pictures of Zamus' rear and apparently look at Peaches in sport games.
So you brought it up to make the poster look bad because you can't fault his opinion?

Honestly though, you have to ask yourselves why did they put Zamus in rather than a totally new (and equally deserving) character. The fact she's hawt must have played a part in that...................

What a prude topic; I'd rather a character be "sexually appealing" than shooting cops and running over prostitutes while doing drive-by's.

America needs to get its moral priorities straight - sex is not bad; violence is.

Slugma128 appears to have something against sex in games, because they "put female in bad daylight".

So fat women in fur coats do put female in good daylight?

It's also bullcrap to say that it will appeal a perverted audience, and that it will change the Metroid series. Nintendo thinks twice before changing a working concept. Hell, from what I've seen Super Mario Galaxy won't change too much in ways of gameplay itself, jumping and walking still stays the same.

Metroid will essentially not change much. They won't stray off the first person action for consoles and side scrolling action for handhelds, perhaps even for consoles. It would be a too big of a risk to change the concept. Hell, who even plays the Metroid pinball game?

And they will not have you play over 50% with ZS Samus, or any other JUSTIN BAILEY ------ ------ suit. They would be crazy, and it will stray off the item-finding-and-adding-it-to-your-arsenal concept. Heck, Metroid isn't Metroid without morph ball.

Probably because they wanted to make a moveset with a whip. Shame, though, that it wasn't a Belmont. But giving the whip to a female presents a whole different idea.

And, you know, I never thought Samus was the Dominatrix type. But I guess it shouldn't come as too big a surprise. I mean, she is rather butch.

And I think people are talking too much about the present than the possible future, which this topic was also supposed to be about.

yeah, the whip idea is pretty cool, but it's a lasery whip, so I hope it doesn't end up too similar to the mechanics of a sword (except flashier).

Well for the future, I guess Samus will get more revealing/showy shots in her games and there could be a Zero Suit section in metroid prime 3, where she gets to use a whip? That would be the only explanation I would accept for her appearance other than for sex appeal :p I doubt it will affect much else in her games though...

For other Nintendo games... I don't think you can really apply any assumptions. Nintendo is made up of several different sections (i think there is like 15 in house developers?) and they're all gonna have opposing views on the sort of content that comes in their games. There has been a shift to more mature themes though with games like Project HAMMER and that disaster game.

Why weree you comparing something bad with something worse that no one was talking about. That's like saying, "Yeah, I stole something, but look at that guy. He murdered someone so I should get off completely free."

I like sex appeal in my games. But this topic was about ZS Samus, if it was a good move by Sakurai, how the focus on her body will affect her character in future games, and more.

Because this is the first time they've shown her like this. First it was just a sprite, then hi-res arts, and now fully playable in 3-D. So please, get off the discussion if Nintendo is presenting her with sex appeal, and get on with the discussion how it'll affect her character. And please don't come with the attitude "I don't care/Who cares", or you don't need to answer in this thread!

From a subjective view, I really like this change. :) My only complaint is that she had a much better butt in Zero Mission...but from a objective view, I'm not sure what to say about this. How will people who haven't played Metroid games react, for example? Will they only see her as a stereotype sex object and nothing else? And people who are Metroid fans, or know the series, will they be disappointed that she's not THAT secret anymore, or will they think of this as a natural evolution?

Some fans here seems to think this is natural, but there are also posts from them who think Nintendo is preparing something for the future, and this just being a step to that. Again, from my personal opinion, I think it's safe to say that...

YOU NEVER KNOW. Who knows what the Metroid franchise will look like in 5-10 years? Who had thought Peach would be wearing a thong and having a jiggly butt ten years ago? NO ONE. But it happened. I'm just saying that people shouldn't be so sure that Nintendo won't do anyting "naughty" with Samus. It's all about business, and the magic words...you never know.

EDIT: The are many pics of Peach's thong-clad butt. Here are a couple of them:

And even though it's small, it's soft and jiggles like jello when she runs. Been baking too many cakes, maybe...

Uhhh... I guess you haven't beaten MP2 or MPH with the right requirements to see the 3D Zero-Suit Samus, though it's a render in MPH.

It's good Samus has such a figure; I'm tired of the "pure" A-cup cuties Nintendo created. Time for something different; a bad-*** female that doesn't take no mess.

So you're implying that Samus' breasts are pumped up, because of the "pure" addition? Or are you implying that the other Nintendo characters were made with prude minds?

And as far as I know, Peach does have decently big breasts. I know, because I'm a pervert. I download these stuff.

Samus is definatly not a sex object. The suit might be a little tight, but even without such a tight suit samus would still look like samus (and thereby still be considered sexy). Anyways, the suit is made of metal or something tough right? She won't be jiggling all over the place (assuming her suit is rigid, which it should be). Just hope the suit isn't made of spandex.

Assuming she has to fit in a tight suit, her outfit should be skin-tight. Either that, or she secretly uses the armour in the nude, but they cover it up with clothes, just to not get an M-rating.

Actually, we're all pervs. Just in different ways. But deep inside, EVERYONE has a weakness for something.

Skler, she wouldn't be considered sexy if she didn't wear sexy clothes. Sure, some people would always see her as sexy, but in general she wouldn't be viewed as it if she didn't have revealing clothes (and YES, skintight is revealing).

Liku, you think female characters need to be busty or curvy just because they've got a strong will? Look at Jade from Beyond Good and Evil. She's strong willed, yet she doesn't have either a tight suit or big boobs. She's just wearing jeans and a jacket. Now take that, Samus.

Also, there seems to be "pervs" here, not just me, LOL. But that doesn't belong to this thread, few people writes what they think of future games, and how this will affect Samus. Will she be running around in a thong bikini in a future game? You say it's impossible, right? I say it isn't.

EDIT: Some crazy guy made these pics, and they're not to be taken seriously...just an interesting idea. Actually, though not serious, it doesn't look impossible to me, exept for the Jigglypuff. >_>

I don't understand why everyone's upset about this sex appeal thing. It's good for the series to have a character or 2 that looks sexy, stop your *****in. Like all you people who say it isn't good aren't still gonna get this game then pick Samus and try your ****dest to get her to turn to Zamus so you can see those ******* bounce.

On a more serious note, I still think this is just Sakurai experimenting with more transforming characters. Remember that Shiek is one of the most popular characters in melee, but the only transforming one. He probably figured he could knock a few birds out with one stone by making Samus transform to Zamus, but not in the same way as Zelda and Shiek so that it would be more creative and not use one of the special moves for a transformation. Likewise it might bring more older players to the table seeing a character such as Zamus, it worked for so many other games and Slugma is right (I think he said it), business is business. Whatever they can do to bring more players to buy this game and still keep it true to Smash they will do. Why do you think they let Snake in? sure, there was some begging, but in the end it'll probably bring more players into the picture to buy the game so of course they'll put him in along with a couple more third party characters. Don't be surprised when they end up being popular characters on other consoles that used to be on Nintendo. Megaman? Sora? Simon Belmont? Ryu Habashi from Ninja Gaiden? the list goes on and on because many popular games nowadays are remakes of old Nintendo games.

Zamus/samus is a kicka** girl. Girls are going to think, "hey! There is a girl who can look good, and kick some a** at the same time." Guys will say, "****, hot chick wearing a skin-tight suit ruinin around beatin people up, **** that's hot." I say good marketing. Ive always had a thing for samus (i mean she is pretty hot, and she's definitly pretty, plus she's going around savin the world and still has time to put on a suit just for us :)

Let me get this straight, your a guy that's straight and your complaining that a chick that is hot is running around in skintight clothing? You aren't straight are you?

Now onto my opinion. I could care less if samus is dressed, undressed, or partially nude. I might pay attention to it for the little while but eventually I won't see it. I mean it isn't as if the game is going to be M over ONE CHARACTER. If nothing else you have only provoked more attention to the subject.

Zamus goes completely against Metroid canon, that you acknolwedge that Samus is a female, but you don't hammer someone over the head with the fact. Here's an example:

Good:
You: Hey, let's play some Super Smash! I'll so pwn you with Samus!
Noob: Ha! Fox so pwns him anyday.
You: Dude, Samus is a woman.

Bad:
You: OMFGZ LET'S PLAY SUPAH SMASH! I R TEH SAMUS THIS TIME! DID I TELL YOU THAT SAMUS IS A GIRL? YA RLY! SAMUS IS A GIRL!! HURR! HURR!

Basically, by making Zamus a character, Nintendo is following the second example. Following the first example would be closer to inconspicuously adding that Samus is female in the trophies section.

Well, then again, it seems like the current trend is to break all the rules of Metroid *cough*not-so-Retro Studios*cough*

You drive a good point in, and I couldn't agree more. It defeats the entire purpose of "What, Samus is a WOMAN?!" to have her as a regular character, and one that's been revealed as well. Armorless Samus is a great idea, but would have to be secret and something they WOULDN'T show off this early.

Though, you can't argue that Samus's secret isn't much of one anymore, thanks to the Prime games reviving the series...

True fact: Sakuri made Zamus just to stop all the "Samus is a guy" jokes.

And to Blazer. This game could and would be rated M for just one character.

I dont think Zamus is a big problem really. If you check one of those screenshots you see that everything that could be revealing is covered by a darker blue piece of the suit.

I've read through most of the arguments through this thread, and most of them are valid.

But I must point out one thing that most people have been saying:

This is Metroid's best ending:

For 8-bits, that's pretty hot. And back then, that was taboo. Note: 1980s.

This is Metriod II's best ending:

Pretty hot for a gray-scale pallette.

This is Metroid III's best ending:

Pretty hot for 16-bits, huh? Hehe...

Now, these three games were created by the original Metroid creator before he died in a car accident.

Eight years prior to Super Metroid, we get Prime. We also get jipped with the endings by only seeing her beautiful face. Metroid Fusion changes it up and gives you images of Samus in a bra and really short shorts. Butt huggers, almost.

Metroid: Zero Mission is Zero Suit Samus we see. Decent and hot.

Metroid Prime II comes along with it's best ending. Zero suit Samus! In 3d.

Now here's the real question. Normal Suitless Samus or Zero Suitless Samus?

If they went with Normal, then your argument about SSBB creator being a bit of a pervert is valid. But with the Zero Suitless, it's kinda like chocolate: Not too bitter, not too sweet, and not yucky at all. Just right. And whip in her Space Fed Pistol was a surprise to me, but it would be to anyone.

Now if you think the Whip is being sexual, you need to stop being a closet pervert right now. That's sick, man/woman!

Welp, time to be flamed.

Yes, but those are endings and they require at least some skill and a bit of "Metroid Instinct" to get to (or I guess you can read a guide...). Keeping her revealed is kinda killing the concept. Also, a message of the Metroid series is that it's not a big deal that Samus is a girl. Now that she's constantly being revealed, people are going to talk about it more, which is a Metroid taboo.

But really, it was bound to happen, greenblob. I was actually expecting Suitless Samus to be a secret character in Melee. It was only a matter of time...

And think of it this way. A lot of people still see Samus as a man. Think of this as a favor when people finally realise that she is who she is. It annoys the crap out of me whenever I go to my local tournies to hear the age old argument of Samus: Man or Woman?

Heh, sounds like a headline off of 60 minutes...

I don't know. Do we really need Samus's breasts or posterior to bounce? Judging by the appearance of the suit, and the trailer, my guess is it will hold everything tightly in place. Because really, it's the curves that make it beauty, and the bounce that makes it booty.

But who knows, Maybe Samus in her Super Metroid apparel will be an unlockable costume paired with say, the basic Power suit [as opposed to Varia]. So you'd get a crappier looking suit for a sexier strip-down. A fair trade in my opinion.

But only if you achieve 100%.

I absolutley agree. True Samus player are going to like her for her game play not her body.

I have only heard that once in my life before, and I still fell off my chair laughing

And a classic, Justin Bailey costume for Zamus is probably guaranteed, with a purple color to her Zero Suit and green hair. As for the Super Metroid style bikini, I don't know. It would be cool.
