1. It's already been said a few thousand times that it's fine that she's pretty, it's only natural since she has good genes and whatnot. The point is that she's PRESENTED as sexy, which goes AGAINST her original nature of dark, mysterious and whatnot.
2. Why is the only alternative to beautiful "fat and ugly"? She can't even possibly be fat to fit inside that suit... just proves my criticism of society, unless you can give me a better explanation for your choice of words.

Fawriel, you have good points. Anybody presented as sexy loses any mood they used to have. But maybe it's just a breath of fresh air. Besides, she wont be seen to often if she isnt a standard character.

Who cares if she's pretty? The fact is there are men who are attracted to any type of woman, any. As long as Samus is a woman she is a sex object, so until her suit goes Ironman and changes her sex she will be a sex object.

You gotta admit, the sales will probably sky-rocket because of this, though I don't know whether to think that it's for better or for worse. You can't blame Sakurai for trying an effective marketing method. After all, the less control Nintendo has over the game, (seeing as it is now in Sakurai's new company's hands) the less likely the game will stick to their protective, harmless, filtered genre.

Attractive=/= sex object. Female =/= sex object. Boobs =/= sex object. Samus has had all three since the beginning and she's never been a sex object until recently (relatively speaking). It is the way she is presented/marketed that matters.

Yes, sex sells, and no, there's nothing wrong with that...for the most part. The reason Samus shouldn't be a sex object is because of tradition. Samus has always been the "female video game character who isn't a sellout" among other things. It appears that the current trend is going against this idea.

I believe exactly the opposite of what this thread claims. The way I see it, Sakurai was trying to de-sexualize the image and appearance of a non-suited Samus. Think about it. In the majority of Metriod games, when you get the special ending that shows Samus out of her suit, she looks like this. Skimpy bikini. Long, flowing blonde hair. Ditzy look on her face. That's what Nintendo, not Sakurai, has made her into in almost all of her games. By using this full body suit design from Zero Mission, and making her appear more serious overall, it seems to me that Sakurai wants to try and pull ZS Samus away from the image that this thread claims he's trying to perpetuate. I will concede that there will be those insatiable perverts who see her and start drooling, but to say that the character was created to pander to those people seems like quite a stretch to me.

Last time I checked God of War didn't sell over 1 million copies because there was a cutscene with nudity and sex minigame, so why the hell would adding 1 moderately attractive human to the game suddenly "boost sales"?

As far as I'm concerned if Brawl turns out ******** it's not going to sell and if it turns out good it will sell regardless of the addition of ZSS'.

I dunno, when you look at the concept art picture of her, the body pose is quite alluring. Like someone said earlier in this thread, there's three kinds of hot:
-Sexy/Sensual Hot
-Gracefule/Beautiful Hot
-Cute/Spunky Hot
Samus is clearly adopting the first one.

^lol, far from it. Its horny Japanese men who give games like DOA beach volleyball the most success. Not to mention, my dad, a computer engineer, often travels to Japan on business trips. From what I hear, the sex appeal adds there are far more exposing than American billboards and adds. You look up at billboards and posters in the fronts of bookstores, and you can't help but stare or blush. I guess the censorship laws are way more leniant.

Last time I check DOA sucked, the newest one got less than 4 from each of 3 reviewers. I never even conisdered getting DOA if I ever got a Xbox, sexy women or not, the game doesn't look fun. I have a PS2 and Rumble Roses doesn't look fun either, the women look decent for a game with PS2 pushing it's graphics but it looks like another crappy wrestling game.

The Guy Game is a game that actually has real life porn [I think they only show breasts though] and it got the lowest scores I've ever seen, the highest was 1.5 the lowest was 0. I wouldn't even buy it for 1 cent it looks ******** from what I've seen in the magazine.

I haven't seen any Japanese billboards or ads so I can't comment on that aspect.
