If they make an OG character it should be a previously established smash character. Otherwise it would be a little too out of left field. Viable options:
Mini version of master/crazy hand
Fighting polygon/Wireframe/Fighting alloy Team
Mini version of Taboo
Sandbag????

Other options:
Any other SSE boss
Still Sandbag

Alright, seriously, let's get back on topic now.

Let's say Smash actually gets an OG character (that's "original generation" for those that don't get it; it means a character created exclusively for it) this time around.
How would you want it to be?

A character that is meant to serve as the Nintendo counterpart to AGES from Sonic and All-Stars Racing Transformed?

A character based off of the original characters from "Dragon King: The Fighting Game", Smash's prototype?

A minature Master Hand?

Or something completely different?
We already have that... It's called a Mii.

Captain Falcon is more than enough. :smirk:

Cause C'MON... Did most of you knew or would've guessed he was a F-Zero racer?

I even thought he was a comic character, cause of his ending in Smash 64. 100% serious.
I was always confused by him because there is nothing in the first game that really suggests he is a F-Zero driver. He even gets more recognition as a bounty hunter than anything.
Plus his move set made him seem more like a super hero than anything, but I think it was originally based off of mach rider or something.

Anyway, SSB convinced me to buy GX, which was an incredible racing game, despite the multi-player sucking. Beastman's top speed was great.

The only thing in the original SSB that implies Falcon races cars is his running speed. Even then, you would have to know a bit beforehand to make that connection.

Everything else made him seem like a superhero.

I knew F-Zero and F-Zero X existed but I never played those games. I didn't even know Captain Falcon was in those games when I first saw him in Smash 64.

I vaguely remember EarthBound but I never played the game. So I wasn't familiar with Ness in Smash 64.

Those two were the only obscure characters in Smash 64 in my eyes. I knew everyone else, including the Pokemon (because of the anime).

I know some people feel rather strongly about this, but F-Zero is the Smash franchise with content most inaccurate to its source material. In particular, Captain Falcon is memefied and entirely out-of-character, to the point of his Neutral Special being drawn-out in Brawl to resemble the typical 'paaaaaunch' misspelling; in the games, he's far more Tall, Dark and Snarky (based on what I've read). It's gotten extreme enough to the point where, when Smash fans check out F-Zero and don't see this memefied Falcon, they aren't interested.

I'm not particularly opinionated on the subject, but I can't imagine F-Zero fans feel too great about this.

Completely agree, as far as I know the only thing that suggests a "falcon punch" that relates to the game is in the anime.

But I don't exactly trust the anime being canon because the GBA spinoff was crap and I'm pretty sure they considered Leon a werewolf.

speaking of characters who are misrepresented, how bout that Luigi. He is represented as Mario's comical brother. When in actuality he is Mario's scaredy-cat brother

Well's he is the comical and scaredy-cat brother. He cowardice is funny. Brawl showed both sides, pretty well.

The original and Melee did not however. Luigi was only portrayed as a second banana, which at the time, what the only thing he was portrayed at.

Well, here's my roster. I expect that most characters that were in melee and brawl (excluding R.O.B, Olimar, and Ice Climbers) will make a return, so I'll just list the newcomers:
Roster v.1.0

Nintendo:
1. K.Rool
2.Impa
3.Palutena
4.Hades
5.Galacta Knight
6.Knuckles
7.Tails

3rd Party (Capcom and Square-Enix):
1.Sora
2.Cloud
3.Ryu
4.Mega Man
Oh my...I don't know what to say...

New Sakurai Twitter image alert:

In celebration of Brawl's 5 year anniversary in Japan.

Notice Kirby is still at the forefront of all non-Mario characters...

I think it's because this is the Brawl cast mr Creator. ;) Very nice picture though. Like the anime-sort of style it has.

Well duh. I figured that out shortly after I posted. I think if this had been made by them instead of a fan it would be SS Zelda though.

Probably.

But still, cool pic and all. Was this made by a fan, or Sakurai himself?

This isn't something we can analyze as thoroughly as a posed action figure picture, but it does reflect a sense of community among Brawl's characters. Hopefully Sakurai won't break it up by cutting any of them.

Don't flatter yourself. Cuts are going to happen whether you like it or not, and there is nothing you can do about it. Being infatuated with your hopes and dreams is going to only cause turmoil, no matter how much you beg or cry.

I am curious who you think will be cut. I personally think Sakurai is going to try and bring everyone back.

The next game is going to change directions, which automatically means that we are not getting Brawl 2.0. In other words, don't expect everything to comeback in one piece. Thinking otherwise will not be wise in the long run, unless you really want to be disappointed.

Seriously though, anything is free game at this point. It's not going to be exactly as we expect, for better or for worse.

I think we'll have cuts as well. Not too much, but indeed there will be a few.

I think cuts are possible as well but I don't think they are inevitable and shouldn't be presented as fact. However, if any cuts do occur, I'd guess they'd be extremely minimal, 1-2 at the most IMO. Like Chrono said, I believe Sakurai will have the initial intent to bring everybody from Brawl back.

I fully expect cuts, hence the 'hopefully' in my post.

I don't think any particular character will be targeted as a cut, unlike with Melee, but I could see some missing the roster by virtue of being less of a priority to add than the remainder of Brawl's characters and the newcomers.

Yeah same here. 1, 2 ,3 or maximall 4 characters could be cut, but not intentionally I even think. Not gonna argue WHO, as people would like to disagree. But I could definitely see some characters leaving. But as long as the overall roster is cool, I'd probably be ok with it. Rather not see Ike leave though. :c

Again, there is nothing concrete to determine what would and wouldn't be a victim of being cut. We may get a general idea in the end, but it might not be exactly as we expect. Also the reasoning might not be clear, or whether there were plans of inclusion. So again, there is actually nothing to go by unlike what some people would think. Any character at this point is technically a victim, it's just not obvious or expected for a lot of cases.

Personally though if I had to choose any character, it would probably be Ike out of pure bias or Olimar out of pure spite. Again though, that's more of wanted desire then an expected one.

Sakurai himself said that the game won't be all about new content, so I would think it's more likely that the roster will stay the same with a lesser amount new characters than what we had in the past, rather than characters getting cut in favor of new ones. At least, that would make more sense considering the design philosophy of this new Smash game

Cuts are possible because time constraints can be a ***** as we've seen with Brawl, but that isn't exactly something we can predict, so there's no reason to expect it. And obviously, a lot of things are possible especially when we don't know squat about the game and won't for the next few months. Why expect anything in the first place, or swing to a specific direction, knowing that almost anything is possible. How about taking a neutral approach, waiting and seeing what the game will be like and how the developers might go about developing the game, before assuming that things will go one way or the other

It's unreasonable to act like cuts are impossible, but it's just as unreasonable to act like they're inevitable

Damn pessimism pissing me off

I think if character DLC happens for Smash 4, any cut Melee/Brawl characters will be a top priority for DLC. I am not sure though about Sakurai's attitude pertaining to it (I think we will see DLC of some sort for Smash 4 though), though I think we will find out at E3 this year when Sakurai inevitably gets that question (assuming he's there).

Really, the unveil for Smash 4 will finally let us see what direction Sakurai is taking with it, and what to expect in terms of his roster choices.
