Right now, since the Wii U is out, the GameCube and lower are Retro characters. Same with the Gameboy Advance and lower.(and technically, if there's characters from a playstation series that recently had Nintendo appearances, and could be chosen, only characters that were on the regular PlayStation. PSP is one system lower than the PSVita, so that has no Retro options. Same with the Xbox and 360. No retro)

Main problem with the game. It does so many thing wrong. Novels could be written about the killing mechanics flaws.

The game does have quite a few bugs but Superbot is trying to fix them.

Anyway the only companies that I think can handle large crossovers are Nintendo, Sega, Capcom, and Namco. A lot of other companies just don't have the IPs/history that work together. Overall a lot could be learned from the development of this game from gameplay right down to character selection, the online I heard was pretty good though.

If we're looking from a roster perspective, yes. Gameplay is something else though I will say that the KO system never made much sense to me either.

PSABR was pretty good... for the first 2months. Then people just either spamed projectiles or the same combo chains they learn from the training mode.

Sounds like Marvel 3 for the first month or so.

In context, something that is retro should be from something in the 20th century between the 70's and 90's and have not appear in any other scenario since (discounting cameos). Anything beyond that should not be classified as such.

Diddy's a chimp with a hat, who eats bananas. Compare that to a man with a beard who has a rocket launcher, and you've got to be either an idiot, or 2 years old to say the chimp is better. Another thing is that while characters like Ness are childish, he does things like shoot fire, and beat people with a bat.

Technically, yes. However, since he's already in Smash, he has a non-retro appearance.(discounting Smash, though)

@CrophMan: Yep. Any new character from those only would be considered a retro character. Including an F-Zero character, since there is none from eras beyond GBA or GCN.(unless you count their appearances in Smash for the purpose of Retro)
