I've always thought of retro as something far back enough you can actually be nostalgic about. It's not really an established time frame but a perception concept.

For me, retro gaming begins (or ends I guess) at the 5th console generation which included the N64, GBC, PS1 and other lesser consoles.

My first system was the NES, with Super Mario Bros 3

My second was the gameboy with Tetris

Then Super Nintendo, with Killer Instinct

Then Gameboy Pocket with Pokemon Blue

I didn't get a N64 until years later, first game Mario Kart/ Glover

I never had a gameboy color or gameboy advanced, but my brother did

So what do you think? Are we gonna be able to play 5 people at the same time in in SSB4? If so, it's gonna be hectic :p

My guess is 4.

I don't think there is a wii u game that allows 5 NORMAL players at the same time

All the Wii U games that use 5 player functions don't let the 5th player control a character. The 5th player usually controls elements on the stage, etc. through touch. Like Rayman and Mario wii u

In fact, is there a Wii U game that allows Tablet AND Nunchuk controls of playable characters at the same time?

I know Mario Bros wii u doesn't

Yes, there's atleast Nintendo land and Rabbids land.

:phone:

Well, i guess they aren't controlling the same things though. So I guess we'll see.

Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed allows 5 players simultaneously.

Jimmy Neutron lives in Retroville so maybe he's retro enough to get in? I think his data was in melee anyway, got scrapped last minute because idk.

Dexter was the better genius. His inventions actually worked. His problem was forces outside his control (i.e. Dee Dee).

Alright, seriously, let's get back on topic now.

Let's say Smash actually gets an OG character (that's "original generation" for those that don't get it; it means a character created exclusively for it) this time around.
How would you want it to be?

A character that is meant to serve as the Nintendo counterpart to AGES from Sonic and All-Stars Racing Transformed?

A character based off of the original characters from "Dragon King: The Fighting Game", Smash's prototype?

A minature Master Hand?

Or something completely different?

I mean MORE than what R.O.B. does. R.O.B. merely represents himself.
I'm talking a character that does not exist within the Nintendo multiverse that has references out the wazoo while still fitting in.

Something like Alloys or Wire Frames? Wouldn't like such a character playable actually. But speaking of, the Wire Frames where so much cooler than the Alloys. But the Fighting Polygons where definitely the best.

Would Non-Specific Action Figure count? But I was actually thinking about an OG character as well. It would be cool I think, something like ages would be nostalgic, transforming into different things and such.

I think Nintendo using ROB and Game & Watch and the likes is all they need to represent themselves the same way as using AGES. Since AGES is a VMU, a dreamcast peripheral.

Better yet though

CAPTAIN N

Uses the power glove, NES remote, the Zapper, etc. Maybe even summoning Gameboy

Captain N. You know that hand who threw the Mario trophy in the Melee intro? That's him before he got sucked into the Nintendo multiverse. Remember that bedroom shown in the Smash 64 intro? That's his bedroom.

Captain Falcon is more than enough. :smirk:

Cause C'MON... Did most of you knew or would've guessed he was a F-Zero racer?

I even thought he was a comic character, cause of his ending in Smash 64. 100% serious.

@Psycho: There is a major difference between R.O.B. and AGES.
AGES may be a "peripheral", but unlike R.O.B., there has NEVER been such a thing as "AGES" until Sonic and All-Stars Racing Transformed. R.O.B. is merely characterization of the robot "toy" itself, which has been done before multiple times prior to Smash. R.O.B. is not original to Smash. AGES is original to SaASRT.
Closest example would be Mr. Game & Watch, but even then, he had a base; all of the unnamed characters in the G&W handhelds. He merely is a representative of them as much as Yoshi is a representative of the multiple colored Yoshis from the Yoshi series (no, he is not Mario's Yoshi).

@Arcade: Captain N wouldn't really be an OG character, now would he?

@Diddy: Falcon doesn't count because he's from an established game series.

Habanero: So I'm not the only one who had a same childhood as mine regarding F-Zero?

C'mon here, let me hug you

Do you realize how much it just confuses me when everyone sees Captain Falcon as a memetic sue while I just remember him as this racer from F-Zero games? Which just like, need more recognition at the moment... (-;^;-)

Blame his ending in N64 Smash! It looks like he's a comic character, no joke!

I did play some F Zero 64 though some 2 or 3 years ago... Picked Captain Falcon of coarse.

I understand the confusion perfectly, not just for Dougles Jay Falcon, but for a lot of characters in general. Probably because I'm a fanatic of video games and treat everything as status quo from canon, so when people are oblivious to that stuff it kind of bothers me.

I totally thought the same thing, Diddy, no worries! They really should've given F-Zero an unlockable stage in 64. That would've helped...a bit.

I did pickup GX though, and X, and they're both awesome. GX is one of the most intense games I ever played on the Cube.

The story mode always gave me trouble for some reason. :(

Captain Falcon is the only one who can Falcon Punch. So I had to pick Captain Falcon.

You know what just blew my mind? Captain Falcon is voiced by Vegeta. And Lucario was voiced by Goku.

Captain Falcon is the character who's popularity in Smash is most out of sync with the popularity of his series, am I correct? I mean, at least Ness has the huge cult following. F-Zero, alas, is just kind of... there. Compare to how popular and meme-creating Falcon is in SSB.
