Louie's day will end tonight followed by the Pokeball rating since there's still a large gap from now to Monday. We'll probably do predictions on Sunday.

Oh yeah also:

Looks like we'll have to wait until later for FP7 news.
Nooo, whyyy?! My kokoro is aching, my nakama-tachi. In more seriousness, we'll likely get the info on when we should be expecting the next reveal. It wouldn't be a smart move not to give the playerbase a date or an estimation at the very least.

Does his last name start with a G?

Chance: I'll toss my hat in the 0% bin. Louie is absolutely not happening, not even if this was a Nintendo only pass. Nowhere near enough people are asking for him, depending on circumstances with the game that doesn't exist (Pikmin 4) he probably isn't relevant, and Sakurai might not think he could be distinct enough from Olimar to bother putting in.

Want: 90% for his content, but 55% for the fighter alone. I already think Louie has some underrated potential: even if he is an Olimar semi clone, he could take advantage of things Olimar doesn't such as the Sprays. This isn't even going into a more "Pikmin enemies" inspired approach, which would require more bending of canon abilities but would be so cool. But I'm really interested in him because of the fact that it'd include Pikmin content, which I think is beyond dire. It's as if none of the games exist beyond level 1 (except the freaking spinoff of all things).

Frisk x 5. Pokéball Pokémon is gonna get 0.82% because people have no faith in a non Gen 8 rep getting in.

I honestly wouldn't count on that. Remember when we thought that we might get something at Terry's reveal after all? And only got a two month wait of absolutely nothing until the announcement for Byleth's. . . well, announcement came? Personally, I'm not expecting any news until September or so after this.

Good point but we've been missing news for more than 6-7 months now, with the only info we got being "it's an ARMS character". The hype has honestly died down quite a bit. Even coming here to speculate has become a bit boring as we're nowhere closer to the truth compared to the time when Byleth came out. Most debates have gone sterile and there's little we can add anymore. That's why those "concept" ratings have been a much needed breath of fresh air to me, but I'm not even playing smash much anymore. Online isn't good and there aren't many balance changes anymore. So if they don't even give us a date or an estimation, I'm pretty sure many (including myself, to my own surprise) wouldn't bother buying the pass and just handpick the newbies.

I'm kind of glad that they're giving the ARMS rep some time to breathe, as I imagine a second reveal would overshadow them. That said, yeah, speculation could seriously use a shake-up...

I imagine he will make some comment about how working from home is going and if future characters are on track with their internal schedule, but I doubt he'll say what that schedule is.

There's a lot less pokemon I want to see in Smash, and honestly I never found myself saying "Man I wish the pokemon was playable" except for maybe Alolan Exeggutor. But I wouldn't rule out the possibility.

If we're getting a new Pokemon in Ultimate, it's a gen 8 Pokemon, and there's no gen 8 Pokemons in Pokeballs as of now in Smash.

Want: 40%
There's some cool Pokemons behind the Pokeballs, like Gardevoir or Eevee, but... Eh. I prefer Bisharp and Grovyle. Not that the balled mons are bad, it's just that I prefer others.

Pokeball Pokemon Promotion....alliteration for the win

Chance: 15%

If assist trophies are in fact on the table, then the same ideology applies to Pokeball Pokemon. There are some solid choices: Meowth, Mimikyu, any of the legendary pokemon, etc. But the thing is, this is Pokemon we are talking about and it has the unfortunate pattern of always getting a Pokemon from the most recent generation. We do have Pokemon Trainer as a precedence for breaking this pattern though so it's certainly possible. But if you want my educated, honest-to-god opinion, I think it's almost inevitable that we are getting a gen 8 Pokemon, which we have none of as Pokeball Pokemon. I have a feeling Urshifu or someone else is going to end up being the Byleth of this pass, especially with the Sword/Shield DLC being released throughout this year. I just can't see any of the Pokeball Pokemon having that much priority in comparison.

Want: 20%

Having any of the legendary Pokemon be playable would be so cool. Kyurem, Girantina, and Solgaleo in particular are ones I'm interested in and there are other solid choices like Zoroark, Deoxys, Entei, Arceus, and Genesect. But I'm still not invested in having another playable Pokemon. Let.Other.Franchises.Get.More.Love.

Pokeball promotion

Chance: 0.1%
The only Pokemon I see possibly happening are Decidueye (since Sakurai considered them for the base game) and a Gen 8 Pokemon, but even those don't seem likely. It's clear that with Pokemon they'll just add the latest character from the current generation so I really don't see them going back to add an old Pokemon. Only reason this isn't a 0% is because Eevee and Meowth are fairly popular candidates.

Want: 10%
The only current pokeball Pokemon I wouldn't mind becoming playable are Gardevoir, Eevee, and Meowth. I don't really care about the rest which is why I'd much prefer AT promotions over pokeball ones.

Even after all these months of writing it on the noms list, my phone still doesn't remember to put the accent on Pokéball.

So at first, my rating was going to be much shorter. "How many Pokéball Pokémon are from Gen 8? That's your score." Would've been funny, too. But then I thought, let's give this a shot.

Now, as everyone should know by now, Pokemon's newcomers are always promoting the newest or upcoming game. As of right now, Sword and Shield is the newest game, but given the Spirit Event that game got, I think its chances are dead in the water. For the most part, I think that means we don't get a Pokemon this DLC. However, Pokemon is an annual franchise now, and we're getting a Pokemon presentation in a couple days; it stands to reason that we're going to see a new game announced. Main Pokemon games have been releasing every three years since Black and White, and not even the transition to console has slowed that down. That means we can confidently expect Gen 9 in 2022. FP2 will release its last character, at the latest, in December 2021. I won't discount the possibility of that getting a character, but aside from that, we have two years of games to promote. What could those games be? Well, Pokemon has two remake series, the regular one that consists of FireRed/LeafGreen, HeartGold/SoulSilver and Omega Ruby/Alpha Sapphire, and the Let's Go series. Either or both of these series could get new entries, and many are expecting that we get either the fabled Gen IV remakes or Let's Go Johto announced next week. Admittedly, there's little precedent for remakes mattering for playable characters, with Pokemon Trainer being the closest (and even then, I doubt the Gen I remakes had much to do with that). However, if there's one series that can get the special treatment, it's Pokemon.

Basically, what I'm saying is, there's a way to get a Pokemon rep that's also stuck inside a Pokéball. So, I looked at the Gen II and IV Pokemon and... Well, there's some that could be the picks. Of the Gen II ones, Bellossom seems too minor, and Entei, Suicune and Lugia are Legendaries so I don't see them making playable. That leaves us with Togepi and Scizor, of which I think Scizor has the best shot, it's sorta popular from what I recall. From Gen IV, again, Palkia, Giratina and Arceus are too important and Abomasnow is too unimportant. Darkrai, however, is the clear winner here. It's a very popular and iconic (so, marketable) Pokemon that keeps showing up and could also represent spin-offs like Mystery Dungeon and Pokemon Ranger where he's a big villain.

Admittedly, the odds are still pretty low, and chances are Infernape or Empoleon would still be the reps for Gnarly Diamond and Bodacious Pearl, but I wouldn't discount Darkrai. Or at least, I want not to discount him.

Chance: 6.5% (that's .5 for Togepi, 1 for Scizor and 5 for Darkrai)

Want: 0%
Look, don't get me wrong, I'd love an older Pokemon. Meowth, Eevee, Gardevoir, Deoxys, Mimikyu, many of the ones stuck in Pokeballs are incredibly good choices. Even if we stick to the ones that could be promotional, Darkrai is a fantastic choice. However, Pokémon has too many characters. At this point, I don't think it's earned the chance to rectify its mistakes, not when it would take a spot that could be used for a franchise or a character that's actually earned the spotlight. I'll pass on this.

Noms: ****ing Tidus x5

When I saw no predictions, I wondered if the schedule was over and I'd totally forgotten to do the top seven. That was quite the moment, heh.

What about poor Mimikyu?
Mimikyu would be... alright, but I've lost interest in them once the Gen VII hype wore off. Not to mention I'm sort of burnt out on Pokemon as a whole.

Yeah, people like going on and on about how Assist Trophy Promotions are literally impossible. Poke ball Pokemon are the same but worse, because they don't even have the same fan demand behind promoting them as many Assist Trophies due to the sheer amount of Pokemon. Not only that, but Nintendo would most likely add in a shill pick from the latest generation, of which there are none serving as Poke balls in Ultimate.

Want: 1%

Maybe in the next game, there are some candidates I wouldn't mind becoming playable. But for Ultimate, I really don't have any interest in any more Pokemon.

Pokeball Promotions:

Chance: 3%. Pokemon is an evergreen enough franchise that I could see them going back and freeing an old Pokemon, especially if there was a new remake one could promote vis-a-vis an old favourite. I definitely think the probability of a new Pokemon is much much higher, but the combined power of every Pokeball upgrade has to be enough to get at least a 3%, right?

Individual odds depend on what tactics are taken with the upcoming remakes, anime appearances, spin-offs etc. I don't feel too confidant in guessing what's going to happen with all of those... A tooth-brushing app was announced on Wednesday. This franchise randomly had a DS tactics game that crossed over with Dynasty Warriors. Pokemon Company could announce Capcom is developing Fletching Wright: Ace Attorney about a Fletching lawyer in the Mystery Dungeon universe, and therefore Fletching is the Pokemon of choice for Smash Bros, and I would go "Oh, yeah, that sounds about right" given the franchise's extensive franchising.

Want: Abstain. It's a broad concept and I'd have a lot of mixed feelings. Pokemon like Eevee and Meowth probably should be in Smash Bros based on franchise prominence, but I'd honestly feel kind of iffy on another gen one Pokemon, in spite of Eevee being one of my favourite Pokemon overall. Gen 4 or 5 Pokemon getting a second chance would be nice though...

Lip drops a garbage block on Concept: Upgraded Spirit and takes second place for herself. The Stretchers, inspired by the upcoming announcement, stretch past D.Va and Meowth to tie with Upgraded Spirit for third place. Will that concept survive past Monday? Because otherwise, that's a spot free for the taking...

Concept: More ATs as one new item and Austin the Butler both make it to 25 noms.

Pokemon Company could announce Capcom is developing Fletching Wright: Ace Attorney about a Fletching lawyer in the Mystery Dungeon universe
Important question here: with ideas like that, why aren't you in charge of the Pokemon Company? That's Pokemon Snap-tier thinking.

Pokeball promotion

Chance 2 - Think there's a small outside shot we could get a promotion for the gen 4 remakes. Not seeing one for potential Lets Go Johto because it didn't really matter for Eevee who is more popular than the other choices we could have there. Gen 4 has a few interesting choice with the most interesting being Darkrai like others have said. Will that happen? Probably not, but Darkrai is really cool so that would be fine with me

Want 40 - Theres a few Pokeball pokemon I'd like to see upgraded. Like I said above Darkrai is one. The other is Mimikyu who I think it a pretty big missed opportunity because seeing it try to copy all of Pikachu's moves would have been fantastic and one of the most delightful designs in the game. Oh well though. Maybe next time

Abstain. I feel like it might be better to wait and see if promotions in general are even a thing first.

Also, quick question: who's the one in charge of listing all the Chance/Want scores from across this "season" of RTC? I feel like we should have an updated list come Predictions Day, just so we can see where everyone stands right now. Sorry if that's a bother.

I'm not gonna discount it entirely, and like Assist Trophies, I don't think being a Pokeball summon is a reason not to get in. Not being from the most recent game though is pretty big strike. This score was originally lower but there's one Pokemon I think pushes it up a little higher.

Eevee.

Eevee has been getting a lot of spotlight lately that I could definitely see them wanting to add it, if not for wanting to always include the most recent Pokemon, Eevee probably should already be in (also Meowth but he's a bit trickier), I can picture how it would play, calling, on its evolutions for attacks (who would appear behind Eevee briefly for the attack akin Arsene).

Concept: pokéball playable upgrade

Chance: 0%
Not within the same game. From one to another yes, but not the same game. Many reasons for that, among which being the latest generation... and afaik, there aren't any Galarian pokéballs right now.

Want: 80%
Some pokéballs have really cool pokémon, that is pokémon that should've become playable already. I'm thinking along the lines or Meowth, Eevee or Togepi. Going on a tangent here (because I love Eevee, deal with it)... With creative freedom, Eevee stands out even more as you could have short term eeveelutions - becoming e.g. Flameon for a move (visual only) or for a short time (gameplay impact). Considering how many there are, and how genetically unstable Eevee is, I'd argue for temporary eeveelutions (instead of a Monado ring) as a result of connecting certain hits. Let's say you hit your neutral B, you turn into Espeon for a bit. If it misses, nothing happens. And wild idea now, if your neutral B gets interrupted, you turn into Umbreon instead.

Regardless of that wild idea, adapting on the fly according to what moves hit or not seams in perfectly with Eevee's biggest defining trait: adaptability (through eeveelution). If a certain eeveelution changes an aerial into a spike, either you'll fish for it or you'll have to adapt if you got another eeveelution instead.
I just used Eevee as an example because that's the one I'd love to see the most (even if I also like Gardevoir), but Meowth or Togepi could also have great movesets. The sky is the limit, so all I wish is for the next one (we all know there will be a next one) not to be like Incineroar, a flavour of the generation.

Predictions: ... wait, there aren't any.

On the list of Pokeball Pokemon are simply no Gen 8 Pokemon. It's largely agreed that if we'd get a Pokemon for DLC it would be one from the new games. Looking at the list I personally don't see many Pokemon on here as roster material. I guess Eevee is an exception but honestly... I have no idea how you would create a moveset for them.

Want: 2%
There aren't alot of my favorites on the list. I sorta like Bewear and Oshawott but it kinda ends at that and I don't really need them as fighters. Still, them not being Pokemon form Sword/Shield is a plus for me.

pokeball promote?

chances: 20% some have argued that the same logic as assist trophies should apply to pokeballs but im not so sure. surely with pokemon they are lot easier to included as the multiple of them unlike assist trophies where for most of them there's only one, so if thats logic you go with it shouldnt really apply to pokemon. that said i do think if we were to get another pokemon itd be a gen 8 one. unless of course the pokemon of the year poll was used to fill in a placeholder in which case good news for mimikyu. of course theres also the probability that they go for the most popular gen 8 pokemon so good new for dragapult.

want: 90% i dont think theres a single pokeball pokemon that id object to becoming playble. oshawott is my favourite water type and if love to smash as him. sadly i feel many of them have probably missed their chance. these days i feel like many of the pokemon i would rather have in smash are unlikely, last two times sakurai has gone for pokemon that are easy to include rather than something more unusual. so im not sure if theres much point in supporting any single pokemon and we should probably just wait and see.

Just as a heads up. ARMS direct will have a prediction day on Sunday (I am guessing a second teaser but that’s just me). Monday/Tuesday is satisfaction. Pending what is shown off we will enter a fixed schedule again for a bit for re rates.

Poké Balls are red balls. Master Balls are purple. Ultra Balls are black. And then there's Great Balls.

Chance: Unfortunately this is a 0% from me, chief, at least right now in the period of time where Let's Go Johto or DP remakes don't exist to the public yet. If we're getting a Pokémon, and I think we are, it's absolutely coming from Galar and there are no Poké Ball Pokémon from Galar (since Ultimate is older than SwSh). There is no way that this isn't the case, I don't think Sakurai would ever want to pass (let alone if he got the choice to) on something unrepresented.

Want: 55%. Better this than SwSh, I'd say. But in general I am not as fond of the Poké Ball roster as I could be. Scizor would be neat, but I'd prefer Heracross as both a bug type and a unique Johto rep. Mimikyu would've been pretty neat, too, but Incineroar scratches my nonexistent Alola fix already. The best candidates from Hoenn and Unova aren't here, either. So overall I feel less inclined to put that much emphasis on the Poké Ball mons, especially as I'm not really asking for them.

I was gonna nominate a Waluigi rerate, but he'll be on the fixed schedule anyway if it's Spring Man, and pretty much dead otherwise. Frisk x 5. We technically aren't doing predictions, but I'm going to guess most people will lean on the following three: Spring Man, Min-Min, and Max Brass.

Any DLC Pokemon would more than likely be from Gen 8. There's no realistic situation where I could see Nintendo adding any of the current Pokeball summons as DLC characters. They lack promotional potential since they're all from previous generations, and any 1st party DLC Nintendo picked is more than likely going to need promotional potential.
There aren't any that I'm particularly fond of either so I can't say I'd want it. Maybe Eevee would be neat, but I'd rather have someone from a different series entirely. I don't have much to gain from this.

Concept: Pokeball Pokémon Promotion

Chance: 10%. It depends on which Pokémon it will be. I'm going to say that Palkia would get 0%, due to being a stage cameo, but besides the point, many Pokémon that are in Pokéballs can't be discomfirmed, at least not yet is because the Pokémon (for the most part) are species, not just a singular lifeform, and you can encounter multiple in Pokémon games in certain areas, so that could help it's chances. Not all Pokémon in Pokeballs would make it in, but it whit it would be a good thing. Plus Charizard used to be a Pokeball Pokémon so it's not impossible.

Want: 100%. I totally support a Pokeball Pokémon becoming playable. Eevee would be fun, Gardivoir would be a great choice, Bewear has moveset potential, Mimikyu would be fun and Zoroark would be very fun, same with Meowth. But of all the Pokémon in Pokeballs, Lugia is my most Wanted of them, but Lugia I said also my most Wanted character for Super S,ash Bros since 2015. Lugia will be a very fun character to play as, with deadly moves like Areoblast, Wing Gusts, Dragon Rush and a deadly final smash, in which Lugia creates deadly storms. While Bowser will still be my Smash main, Lugia would totally be my second in command, if that Legendary Pokémon got in. Overall, a Pokeball Pokémon becoming playable would be hype

This is the future Team Plasma wants

I really don't see this happening. As Sakurai and his team have shown time and time again, the only Pokémon we ever get are the ones that are new and "exciting" by the time that any given Smash game comes out, which, by this point, doesn't apply to any of the Pokémon that can currently appear from PokéBalls. Hell, this was even confirmed with Ultimate, where Sakurai outright stated that they had reserved a spot for a Pokémon from Sun and Moon. So considering that there isn't even any kind of large-scale fan demand for a Pokémon that's currently stuck in this spot, I think it is pretty safe to rate this 0%.

Eh, it of course all depends on what Pokémon they'd pick. If it's anything from Generation 1, count me out. Anything from other Generations, I guess? But if it's something from Generations 3 or 5, then definitely yes. I'd be down for Gardevoir, Victini, Snivy, Oshawott or Zoroark.

Ehh, I still don't really think that that's a good enough reasoning. At the end of the day, Smash speculation is a very niche audience, and I really don't believe that Nintendo or Sakurai and his team really care about how interesting speculation is for us. And while I personally don't have any data to back up this idea, I believe that most people who buy the entire pass either did so the moment it was announced, or will do so once we know all the fighters.

EDIT: Whoops, hadn't realized Louie's day was already over

not much I can say that hasn't already been said. Sakurai clearly doesn't care about Pikmin, even a little bit. Unless Pikmin 4 finally decides to roll around, then it ain't happening.

Want: 100%
Pikmin is my favorite series of all time and Louie has been a want of mine for a long time. He has huge amounts of potential that will sadly never be expanded upon by sakurai, who'd rather keep putting in fire emblem characters. Here's a few movesets I've made a long time ago detailing all that Louie can/could do:

Sakurai has never gone back for reps from a previous gen. There really isn't anyone I think absolutely needs to be upgraded either.

Outside of Mimikyu or Zoroark, I don't really want to see any of them upgraded. I don't really like this idea as a DLC pick.
