Never played the game, I'm just looking up things.

Chance: 25%, people love the game, and she does have a moveset potential, but it's from Square Enix, theire's like 3 other people from Square Enix that I see getting in before 2B. Geno (Only cause fan demand is the highest), Sora, and a dragon quest character. giving 2B a 25% because I can see Nintendo picking between one of the 4 I mentioned from Square Enix, and I don't really know which one they would.
Want: 0%, as I said, I never played the game, so I honestly don't care about 2B in the slightest.

Chance: 15%
2B is an incredibly popular character within the gaming community and NieR: Automata won a ton of GOTY awards. The director of NieR: Automata has also stated that he really wants to port the game on Switch. There is a small chance that adding 2B to Smash could be seen as a way to possibly promote a NieR: Automata Switch port sometime next year. In addition to this, Sakurai has expressed great interest for the NieR series in the past.

Despite all of this, 2B has one major thing holding her back: zero history with Nintendo. Every character in Smash has had at least one game in their series on a Nintendo console; Persona had Persona Q and Q2 on the 3DS (the latter of which features Joker for whatever that's worth) and Persona's main series Shin Megami Tensei has had many entries on Nintendo systems. NieR and Drakengard (the series of which NieR is a spin-off of) has not had a single game on a Nintendo console at all. Yes I know there is a 2B costume in Phantasy Star Online 2 which is on the Switch but I don't think that's enough to justify having history with Nintendo.

That said she's already in Soul Calibur and I think that the most she'll get, could be wrong though. Joker true to his nature was a wild card in speculation. A character who had only appeared in the big n as a spin-off with such a recent game? Sounds familiar.

If any characters benefited from Joker, it is 2B and Crash. Timing helps them so much. 2B also is still a thing, with a Switch port likely and her SC6 guest appearance.

That being said competition is fierce. Sora, Dragon Quest, Sephiroth, and Geno are all things to consider. She also has more niche competition with Chrono or Neku.

Regardless, she still has a solid chance. Her game is still a big deal and she would fit the bill of a surprise similar to Joker.

It’s a good game. She has a cool design. Nier has super awesome combat and that would lend to a fun as hell moveset.

This is crazy that I even feel comfortable rating her that highly. She is exactly in the same position as Joker for me in that she seemed completely impossible and would never be in despite me wishing she would be. But...Sakurai loves the entire Nier series, including Drakengard. He also follows Yoko Taro on Twitter and they speak often. Yoko Taro has also talked about wanting Nier Automata on Switch. Could a second miracle happen...? I'm thinking maybe.

Yes. Yes yes yes yes yes. Yes.

I've said before that 2B is the only other character that has never been on a Nintendo console in a significant manner that I would welcome to Smash with open arms. Simply put, in my eyes Nier Automata is the best game of all time. If Smash is a celebration of gaming, a popular icon from the greatest game of all time should be in hands down.

2B has spectacular moves, with her unique dual-weapon style, her acrobatic movement, and her long-range projectiles with her pod. She has a built-in Final Smash using the black box self-destruct. She would be a versatile character with strategic range mix-ups, her weakness being some of her slower combos. She would bring some absolutely incredible music with her, too. Just from Automata alone, let's talk about Amusement Park, A Beautiful Song, Birth Of A Wish, Bipolar Nightmare, and on the other side of the spectrum Pascal and City Ruins. That's just the tip of the iceberg, too. And the level...wow. sure, they could go with Soulcalibur 6's City Ruins, but they could also do the Abandoned Factory or the Amusement Park or even the YorHa HQ. There's so many options, all of which would be stunning to see and a blast to play.

Besides, Sakurai, who again has written extensively about the Nier series has clearly been inspired by the game, as Automata fans who played Classic mode were quick to find out. The very idea that we could get Weight Of The World after 2B's classic mode run fills me with joy.

Look, simply put, I never thought I'd ever find a game better than Majora's Mask until I played NieR: Automata. With Majora's Mask, Persona 5, and NieR Automata all represented in Smash that'd be the three games I consider the best of all time represented in a true videogame celebration. Automata affected me and surprised me and delighted me and broke my heart in equal measure. 2B is such a wonderfully deep and complex character with a story that breaks your heart and makes you think, with moveset potential galore, and a music and stage that would all be fantastic.

Plus, if we get Assist Trophies, a 9S trophy that hacks people would be great fun, and an A2 echo or costume...? Well, I can dream. And speaking of dreams, my friend actually had a dream the other day that they added 2B and an Emil assist trophy but they had to remove Emil because parents complained he was too scary. I thought that was funny.

Chance: 10%-I kept her in mind when I mentioned my own speculative list on who were the 7 Square characters, no lie about that. Now that we know she's not part of those seven, I'll have to give her a lower score than them. Granted, out of the characters that weren't in there, I think she's the most likely of them, what with Joker's presence and Automata's overall popularity, and the creator's interest in making a Switch port. And I don't think "no games on Nintendo is an issue", "but Joker is on Persona Q2 and also represents SMT!" some will say, my answer? It's "Smash Bros X Persona 5", not "Smash Bros X Persona Q2" nor "Smash Bros x SMT". Also, I should probably ask this in the 2B support thread, but you know how strict CERO is with girls, you think Sakurai or Square won't hesitate giving her a more modest attire? Because I expect them to do.

I get that Persona 5 and NieR Automata are kind of videogame brethren. Not new IP, but certainly unknown to most, breaking out worldwide. Critical acclaim, strong story, Japanese developed RPG. I think Automata didn’t get nominated for GotY (even though ****ing PUBG did, god did that not age well at all), but yeah, they’re basically in similar situations. But what 2B doesn’t have is any Nintendo presence. Now, she apparently does show up as a costume in Phantasy Star Online 2, and with Automata heading to the Xbox One I cant rule out it getting on Switch eventually (man, all those awesome Sony exclusives are not staying exclusive, sucks to be them). But for now there’s zero.

2B is also in Soul Calibur, which tbh feels like a not-in-Smash to me.

And finally holy ****ing **** the competition. If 2B was owned by Platinum then maybe she’d have a good shot. But she’s owned by Square Enix. There’s nothing she does for Smash that Sora can’t do better. Dragon Quest would make all of Japan piss their pants. Geno could happen. You got Lara Croft, you got Crono, you got Neku, you got Sephiroth or Terra or Cecil or Bartz or Zidane or every Final Fantasy ever.

I can’t give 2B a good score with that competition.

Finally, I think there might be some issues with her clothing? Like, I guess it could be censored, but with how infamous 2B’s... B is, plus how enthusiastic Yoko Taro is about it, I dunno if it’d work out.

Want: Oh boy. I love Nier Automata (except the ending). That game tore me to pieces and I actually kinda hated it for a while. It’s the kind of experience that you need to process. 2B could be very unique. Or she could be awfully generic. But I would be ecstatic. Thing is, while I think she veers towards iconic, she’s not completely there yet. And I’d like some of her competition more. So 80%

...well, I feel like there's one major feature people like about her.

So let's run everything down: She's got i) no Nintendo history, from ii) a horrifically stingy company, and she iii) just made a guest appearance in SCVI. Like less than a week ago. I don't think that she's that important and Square is that bereft of characters that she'd be able to cross over in multiple games in such short order.

Oh, and in case it hasn't been mentioned, iv) her ***. Like I don't think people know anything about her personality beyond "Holy ****, she's got the most perfect ***." It's her creator's favored feature, but Japan's ESRB may not like this in Smash. As in, Peach has a black hole under her skirt to prevent people from seeing her (because her Melee and Brawl bloomers were so risqué...), but 2B's game literally has an achievement for flipping the camera in such a way as to look up her skirt. Repeatedly. Which isn't hard, considering how her skirt is made of a magic floating material that basically refuses to stay down. And she's the only character in Soul Calibur who has a move that breaks her own armor if I'm not mistaken...I haven't gone back to SCVI since Smash came out, so I wouldn't know.

So for want - Needlessly 'sexy' design? Check. Sony exclusive? So far, check. JRPG from a company I'm not a fan of? Check and check. Next, please.

I hear about this game often. It's definitely a popular one. I think Nintendo has a lot of different characters to choose from that would appeal to modern gamers, they don't have to be picky. He is an Icon, but he'd probably be the exact same as Snake in a lot of ways, So I don't think they'll add someone who is almost the exact same as another fighter. But there is love for him, although they would most likely do Banjo and Kazooe, or Steve? for DLC, I see an 80% of him being in the next Smash game tho.

This kid tries to find the silliest reasons to "disconfirm" a character that isn't disconfirmed. Ex: "Crash isn't gonna happen because he has a projectile and a spin attack. We have Mario for that."

I'm sorry but 2B is nothing like Bayonetta. Bayonetta is meant to be overtly sexual as that's her character. She's flashy and fast and has sex appeal in how she fights. 2B is a soldier who has to repress the emotions she knows she's not supposed to have because she cares too much about the supposed "enemy" she fights for what she is convincing herself is the greater good. Her fighting style is much more methodical, based on slow hits with heavy weapons spaced out by fast hits with her katana and zoning via the projectiles fired by her pod. Also, she dresses and looks and acts absolutely nothing like Joker, and I'm a fan of both games as established.

I also high key hate the idea that the only thing people care about with 2B is her design. That's mad, mad gross my dudes. Try playing the damn game or at least watching the opening cutscene before passing your weird greasy judgment on a character and NieR fans. Jesus.

Chance: Okay, I haven't played Nier, but I think I can still make a valid assumption here. As far as I'm aware, she is owned by Square Enix, which means that to get into Smash, she'll be competing with the likes of Erdrick from Dragon Quest, Crono from Chrono Trigger, and all of the characters from Octopath Traveller. However, Erdrick and Crono are kinda ancient history by now, and Octopath is far too new. Plus, Nier: Automata has sold over three million copies worldwide by now, making it pretty well recognised among gamers, and giving it a pretty large fanbase. In a way, 2B meets almost the exact same conditions that Joker meets. Reggie told us to expect more characters like Joker, and since 2B is in a very similar boat, I am going to be very generous, and give her a whopping 65% chance score.

Want: Like I said, I haven't played Nier, but from the brief snippets of gameplay I've seen, and from her appearance in Soulcalibur, I think she'd make for a very unique and interesting character, and for that reason, I'm going to give her a 70% want score.

Chance - 15% - I have a hard time ratting her in a post Joker world. While I feel she is a modern marvel, I think the thing to keep in mind is that she is owned by Squre Enix. As a result, she comes from a company that is both notoriously stingy with it's properties and has major competitors like a character from World Ends With You, Dragon Quest, etc. She has a notable chance, I guess, but I don't view her anywhere near as likely.

Want - 40% - Eh.. no thanks. I'm not really a fan of RPGs and other more story-focused games. Speaking from a purely historical importance sort of view, I would prefer a Dragon Quest character instead.

Really, Square Enix has so many properties that nearly any of them could take the gold in the form of another character. Could it be 2B? Sure, but at the same time, it could be a Dragon Quest character. It could be another Final Fantasy character. It could be Sora. Heck, if we wanna get wild, it could even be Bub and Bob of Bubble Bobble. There's so much competition for another SE character, and with how stingey SE has been with Cloud and FF content already, it's tough to say who has overwhelmingly good chances when it comes to the next rep.

Yeah, yet another one of those series I have no knowledge of. I'm mainly a Nintendo console person, and if it has little presence on Nintendo consoles, I've got little knowledge of it.

Before Joker, she felt like a pipe dream. After Joker, she feels increasingly more plausible. She's a major character of this generation of gaming. Sakurai has played and praised NieR: Automata. In fact, he's played every game in the Drakengard series.

She has great moveset potential, too, not just another sword fighter.

Want: 100%
I consider NieR: Automata the best game ever made. 2B in Smash would make me go absolutely insane, like those Etika reaction videos except my reaction would be 100% authentic.

I also high key hate the idea that the only thing people care about with 2B is her design. That's mad, mad gross my dudes. Try playing the damn game or at least watching the opening cutscene before passing your weird greasy judgment on a character and NieR fans. Jesus.

2B or not to be.

Chance: 25%

2B is a character in a very... interesting position... 2B is a Square Enix Character, which would be good or bad depending how much other options they have for Smash DLC; she is also the main character of a game that right now is not in the Nintendo Consoles; something that would been seen as bad sign... however she also like Joker from Persona 5, it's protagonist from a very acclamied game from the last years; and had become quite iconic despite how young her character it's in the Industry; a bit like Joker and his bunch of weirdos, it's definitely a pretty popular character that would actually make sense to use in this new context.

Also, it would be nice if this ends up making Nier Automata in Switch more likely. To finish this I ask myself something... what I would change about 2B's design to make it more Smash Friendly?.. I personally don't have anything against her apperance Iactuallylikeherlooksalot but... I don't know if it would be considered okay... at least it seems leotards aren't seen as lewd as other stuff.

I personally don't know about the game, buuut... it's a game I'll probably buy a soon as it arrives in Switch I because I really really want to play it, it looks so cool; and what have hear about 2B and the game itself excites me a lot.

Also even in a very superficial way 2B looks appealing to me, not only her looks; also her overall style.

The big obstacle in 2B's case is whether Nintendo cared to include her on their list. Yoko Taro's works have quite a following in Japan, but only Nier:Autpmata really madenit big overseas, and none of his titles have ever been on a Nintendo system. I think Sakurai might glady choose 2B if given the choice, though, and it's not as if Joker doesn't point towards her general direction.

I sort of wonder whether her SC6 appearance could be counted as a deconfirmation or not. Would Bandai Namco have put in the effort to get her if they knew Smash was considering her at the same time? Would Nintendo have pushed through with going for 2B, knowing that SC6 would have already taken the wind out of the sails? We can't really prove anything definite with her premature cameo, but it's still a clue to work with.

I really don't care much for what people say about Nier: Automata. From my perspective, it hits similar beats to Persona 5, Metal Gear lid, and Xenoblade, so 2B simply doesn't add much for me that's either new or necessary to Smash.
