so, i set R button (i never use it, only L) to down-taunt and taped my R button down so that when i play falcon, every knee is a YESZ knee

every falcon main with a spare button should do this
Damn it, I use all my buttons. :/

You use both X and Y for jumping? I have Y as the footstool button, so when I want to do a YES-Knee, I just press and hold both A and Y at the same time to do the knee; even better than using the R button.

Sort of compelled to change my Y for footstool + whatever other shenanigans, but i've grown accustomed to the Dpad.

I may have to try it out sometime, though :smirk:

I use X for wavedashing and Y for jumping. R for wavelanding/wavedashing, L for shielding/wavelanding/L cancelling. So yeah, I use all my buttons, lol.
@Meta: Yeah, I wouldn't want to lose Up Taunt. That's like, my favorite move. D:

I use Y for short-hopping, X for wavedashing, Tap-jump for fullhops and double jumps, R for L-canceling, shielding, wavedashing/airdodging, and L for nothing.

I'm weird lol

Hey guys, the tournament videos from Saturday's event are up. The set I think is most interesting to watch is Winners Finals, which was a Bo5 Ike ditto between Vro and me; I don't think I've seen any Ike dittos before, let alone a tournament set of Ike dittos. However, note that Vro was tired and originally wanted to play a Bo3 instead of a Bo5, but I wanted to play a Bo5 so he agreed. Vro forfeited Grand Finals out of tiredness right after winning Losers Finals.

The playlist for the Singles tournament can be found here and the playlist for the Doubles Round-Robin tournament can be found here. Friendlies will be uploaded later.

I guess it's just like the thing about buffer frames, it depends on what you're used to.
except that buffer frames can also be used to make AT's easier and require less practice so dilute the skill level required
As well as requiring less precise button inputs. Using different buttons or altering button schemes is nothing like that.

Buffer frames and control scheme are two entirely different things. There's a number of people who play Melee while holding the controller in incredibly strange ways. Button customization assists that even more. Buffer frames directly enhance your ability to pull off frame-tight techniques and combos and I'm pretty sure it was ruled almost immediately that it's banned in tournaments.

I use X for all my jumps and L for all my shielding and airdodging. I can't see how anyone could use the analog stick for jumping.

It was, PMBR was planning on banning BEFORE they even released the demo. But there are some people who have decided to "rebel" and have managed to convince themselves that buffer is good for anything other than decreasing the competitive value of the game.
But I'll try not to discuss this in here further. There's a "buffer discussion" thread on smashmods for that. Which has successfully gotten nowhere, and will continue to do so.

Is 9 minutes the standard for finals? I only just started learning how to organize a tournament.

Hey there. Like always, download comes out, I make a comment within the first week or two, then fall off the face of the earth. How's tricks, what's new, and what's different about patch 2.1? Replays?

Do people think that Project M will get its own section on smashboards once it has been fully released? Or will it stay in a smaller part of Brawl discussion?

Bugfixes, tweaks and most importantly, Skyloft.

Easily the most hype thing on that list for me, Gyro bouncing off shields. Hell to the yes.

Wavedashing and l-canceling AI is pretty sweet too.

I've never been to an event, but as I'm getting more and more advanced techniques down I would consider such. My controller is really legal though atm. Right now I'm doing weekly friendlies with 3-5 others, but only one other bothers to even l-cancel... so we're really just serious scrubs.

*Edit: I went to the uvic smash club once.*

Has anyone had their homebrew build stop loading custom stages? It was working fine for me ever since 2.1 allowed for it, but today I noticed it no longer loaded the page for the stages.

Also... not a biggie of course but has anyone had it freeze at the css after setting stage selection to random (as opposed to "choose" or "turns") and trying to start?

Oh.. and lastly, my friend really wants to start recording matches. I keep up with this thread every day, and I noticed discussions about a specific type of device people here prefer, yet I can't find the page with it... it must have been only a week or two ago. Help?

Ike hitbox gifs and frame data are about 1/4 done. Thread should be up around next week Wednesday.
Some interesting info: U-Tilt has intangibility on his right arm frames 9-24 and B-Air lasts 3 frames but might only hit the first frame because the other 2 frames might possibly be too far in the Z-Axis to hit anyone.

Interesting. I've got a question monk.
Are hitboxes (bubbles) 2-dimensional or 3-dimensional? It makes more sense that they would be 3, but every picture I've ever seen shows it very obviously as a circle and not a sphere.

Also, what's the start-up in Ike's bair?
