Two years in a row is no easy feat, I really thought the run was over after the first year (Because of Nintendo). I'm really glad Melee made it in again, at the very least this seems to make the whole scene grow. (I think) every game at Apex this year saw an increase (except Brawl), and overall it had more entrants than any previous year. That's just awesome, especially when we're pulling 10k-20k viewers on streams for nationals that aren't even Apex, MLG, or Evo.

I'd be curious to see the effect that this might have on Smash 4. While the competitive community is quite small compared to the casual, we're an extremely vocal minority. I could only imagine the salt that would be thrown around if Smash 4 sucked, even if it was just by this vocal minority.Though this doesn't mean I want it to play like Melee, I'm completely okay with Smash 4 having a different engine/feel than any of the other games. I just hope that it rewards a balance between defense and offense, the player on the stage having the advantage during edgeguarding, and doesn't allow too much camping, but rewards approaching smartly.

Regardless, P:M still isn't finished yet, and it's scene is still growing.

The real question is, who will be at EVO/MLG for Melee that will bring a PM set-up for friendlies? I enjoyed PM friendlies more than anything else at EVO last year. Hopefully we are given room again for BYOSet ups. Never been to an MLG event but I'm assuming there will be tons of room.

Are they going to try to beat Red?
Yes with the team we used to beat the Elite 4 in TPPR we are gonna fight later on as well.

This all the way and that is one of my main hopes for smash 4 with a good training mode, a tutorial that is decent if possible and good online that people can learn super hard from cause that will go along way more than anything else. Brawl being way too defensive and punishes offense the way it is got me super mad over time and I quit because of it. Brawl is sadly dying because folks arn't hyped or hungry with the game anymore especially with the meta showing it's full sets of colors and it's filled with black and blue and Eskimos and Bats all around and the MK being legal biting the game in the ass as well as melee is picking steam and Project M as well. CT Zero just posted on Twitter today that he's gonna learn Melee because Brawl is dying and no one is giving a care anymore also the recent copyright issues with Brawl at MLG Anaheim and I hope that issue gets settled and Brawl gets streamed and such and goes out with a bang before smash 4 comes out.

I'm having trouble finding ticket prices for Newark to Chicago for around 400. Teczero wants to fly out and hang with oro/swarm and then drive down to the tourney I'm at in eau claire. Flying out on like Tuesday of next week an returning Sunday.

I just want to hang out with teczero again :[

What are the chances that one of the big stream groups will stream some of those pm friendlies?

I hope this too, regardless of my feelings on Brawl, I still respect it's community 100%. If the game is dying, I'd love for them to have this one last hurrah.

Seriously, massive respect for the Brawl community. Its not everyday that a community is given a deliberate middle finger from a developer, only for that community to turn it back on the developer. I swear Sakurai developed Brawl by watching competition, and doing everything in his power to make sure that the new game wasn't competitive in the least. Huge kudos for the Brawl community for defying that, and making a competitive game anyways (albeit, with a few rules of their own).

Have all of you discovered the wonderful technique which we're apparently calling "wavebouncing"? Probably, but I'm gonna explain it anyway, because it's neat and has a lot of potential with a lot of characters and I have never seen someone do it in tournament.

Well you all hopefully know how use a special move in the opposite direction you're facing. For neutral specials you can b-reverse. Press back and then return to neutral before using the special. For side specials just use it in that direction, duh. For up and down you can't b-reverse, but you can RAR and then use it. You'll continue to travel forward but use the move backward.

There's something new (at least new to me) that I've seen called a b-turnaround where if you press the direction opposite of the one that you're facing within the first three frames of ~most~ specials, it reverses the direction you're facing AND completely bounces all of your horizontal momentum when you turn. Great for mixups on its own, but there's so much you can do with it. Take Pikachu's Thunder: run toward the edge, jump, b-turnaround a Thunder, and you land on stage with the Thunder going down past the edge. Falco's lasers are great with this, because you just bounce around like a ****lord and it's glorious because Falco's lasers were already annoying enough but now you're just zooming around bouncing horizontally in midair.

Most importantly, you can combine the b-turnaround with any of the techniques that allow you to perform a backward special (b-reverse, side special in the opposite direction, RAR'd specials) and that what the wavebouncing is. You run, jump, perform the special away from your opponent, and then b-turnaround it toward them. You end up drifting backward while aiming at them. It's great with a lot of moves like Dancing Blade (which covers a huge area while you retreat), pretty much all projectiles, and basically all of the other moves that you can do it with.

It is glorious.

Agreed, while I hate playing the game, I don't mind watching other people play it.

Now all you have to do is techchase by wavebouncing falcon punch on reaction.

I've done this before, but not consistently. If I can master it, along with angling Jolts correctly and doing more of my fsmash edgeguarding, I will be pretty much unbeatable once I get people off the ledge.

Of course, this is with ideal Smash effort and practice, assuming...

This post is a breath of fresh air compared to a lot of the garbage some Melee players spout regarding Brawl.

Yeh the scene is dying, the game simply isn't as iconic as Melee.

I know that Sakurai wanted it to be for a more casual audience, but I reckon if the game was even remotely balanced and tripping didn't exist, it'd be a fantastic game. It feels so smooth and fluid, and that's what attracted me to it. lol

I'm hoping Smash 4 is more like Project M than either Melee or Brawl to be honest.

Are you talking about this tournament or one your hosting in Eau Claire? http://ufgtus.wordpress.com/

You got the term confused of b-turnaround for b-reverse, and you can b-turnaround (and also b-reverse, and thus wavebounce) most up and down specials. There's no return to neutral for b-turnaround you just hold the other direction before (while) you press B, and for Up/down specials slightly down/up and away at a slight diagonal (I don't know the degree points). If you couldn't b-turnaround Up-specials you wouldn't be able to recover with a host of characters if you were facing away from the stage

Oops.

10 my bad

Seriously though, this day was really good for everyone. Discounted controllers, Melee at MLG AND EVO, and P:M getting an official section. Now all that's left is a really good reveal in the PotD for Smash 4to get the " bestest day ever" achievement.

So instead of buying a brand new controller, I decided to make mine a little different from others. @ MonkUnit MonkUnit I think you might like my controller.

Hyperr that's pretty damn sexy. Speaking of which I should probably consider getting a new controller. My stick doesn't have the linings anymore, they melted off or something...
