Lol. It maybe because the others are too busy flying on airplanes and winning tournies and stuff to have time to post... lol--if only that were only the case for all pikas :/.

Those writeups are pretty much the thoughts that zip through my mind in a match against those characters (quite literally in fact... so some other mains may want to start reading those and start owning me O_O). I just transcribed my thoughts into text and there you have it. Most matchups are a lot about analysis--sometimes too much. In a real fight, there's little time for some newer mains to analyze that much. Even for the pros, their matchup success is mainly a cumulative pile of their experience and thoughts and failures thus far--rather than neatly organized book knowledge. Learning from detailed other people's experience and frustrations helps some people who prefer to learn that way ^_^.

also use d-tilt alot. again, idk why, but they have a hard time dealing with it.
plus pika slide if your d-tilts misses

Well yea, sometimes it works sometimes it epicly doesn't for me. That's probably because my brother is one of the only Toon Links that really know how pikachu moves. He is aware of QaC's weaknesses (landing lag) and is the only TL that has a counter to a lot of QaC options (spin attack... as wierd as that is...). These are mainly just the ones I lose on here. Just wait for the vids I got for volt tackle thread ^_^.

You're right about that. That's cuz my bro has a different playstyle than some regular toon links. The oppurtunity for it doesn't arise nearly as much against me with his spacing, though i have faced many other TL's (smith) that do b-airs more.

True. Toon Link F-smash is what keeps me from doing that too much and most of the time, my bro's TL is airborne and always setup his approach with a boomerang/bomb which messes up the spacing for d-tilts--even a slide backwards will not avoid the blast radius of the TL bomb and boomerang and the slide makes those slightly harder (at least for me) to powershield (which is my next favorable option) since pika is sort of sliding away. It's mainly cuz my brother's TL plays somewhat wierd/differently than some toon links. I'll keep that in mind tho... there's gotta be some openings... ^_^.

this is a personal goal of mine. to be able to outcamp toonlinks ^_^. But yea... tis' obvious.

So at 1:49, he threw you off and does his b-air barrage. Personally, from my experience, against DDD, this is the only time where I often try NOT to sweetspot the ledge.

DDD's b-air only works really well if he successfully intercepts your second jump (while you are DI'ing towards the stage)t or if you drop low, DDD drops with a low b-air. Most D3's alternate between first high and then low, few RARELY ever do double/triple high back airs (mostly only against snakes/mk's/kirby's since they have multiple jumps). It makes sense since most of the rest of the cast only have an up-b and a second jump (2 easy things to read for DDD's b-air barrage).

Most pikachu's tend to go for the ledge or use QaC recoveries, but Pikachu has other quick attack options that few think about that'll work against DDD specifically. From my experience, if i use my second jump and DONT DI fowards too much (DDD will have to DI a little bit further offstage for his hitbox to reach you, which gives you some more time) and then input a high diagonal up-towards the stage QA (1st direction) and then the second one straight towards the stage. That should clear you over the hitbox of D3's b-air if you angle the first QA high enough (the 2nd part of QA is to get as far instage as possible. The thing is, Pikachu will be in freefall, but against DDD, I'd take this risk anyday against b-air and more b-air spam--the worst case scenario for you would probably be taking 1 f-air (which is nothing compared to offstage b-air wall of pain), that or a suicide suck (but you can fairly tell when DDD's will try that... plus they WONT try it as often if you are ahead a stock... which you were ^_^). Basically, you go OVER his b-air's enough so that he can't even do more afterwards (it'll just hit you instage instead of offstage which is what you prefer). Just make sure you keep your second jump from running into DDD's first b-air (just jump straight up without any foward DI if you have to). Also from my experience, DDD's individual aerial jumps aren't that fast or far. If DDD b-airs normally (one b-air somewhat high and drop with another b-ari), then if even if you go high and freefall back onstage, DDD can't jump and DI fast enough to punish you most of the time if you DI your freefall as much instage as possible--also, since DDD is so fat, he'll probably sweetspot the edge by accident before he gets to you in time ^_^.

This'll force DDD's to goes WAY up (get there ahead of time) to even come close to hitting you and keep you offstage. If they start doing this (they would have to start before you second jumped to intercept it for sure), then you'd be able to see it, choose not to second jump>fastfall and QA from below towards the ledge. By doing this, you force DDD into a 50/50 situation (but you have the spacing/frame/speed advantage).

It's actually worked quite well for me, cuz most DDD's only cover the ledge/sweetspot/normal recovery zones. Unlike mk and kirby (whose individual aerial jump speed and jump distance is about equal to DDD), Pikachu can space himself in the air vertically and horizontally FARTHER and do it FASTER than DDD with a well-spaced well-angled quick attack. All you have to do is bait DDD to come offstage towards you (which they'll do in a heartbeat) and you take that INSTANT moment to jump>QA ABOVE and PAST them so b-air is no longer and option for them.

Other than that, you did pretty well against DDD the first match on the first 2 stocks. I really mean it, you did really good! Towards the end, DDD got you more offstage, but i hope my tips expand your available options more and take that edge off DDD's game. Also, if you are semi-close to DDD and you don't see a pivot anywhere, you can run, short-hop and f-air (nonfastfall) DDD's shield and shield poke most of the time if you've done ANY shield damage with t-jolt or anything. Space the hitbox of your f-air so that it traces the edge of DDD's shrinking shield and it should almost always shield poke. DDD won't be able to f-air you in time and his u-air hitbox starts from behind him (so if you don't see a pivot, grill him with f-air). At least, towards the end... you started f-airing like this less for some reason. Keep it up ^_^. Also, another thing is that DDD spammed a lot run>pivit>b-air RAR a lot of times and used multiple jumps while you shielded. Instead of shielding the entire time, you could probably full hop with full foward DI and u-air them into a juggle setup. There are 2 scenarios when DDD is hovering b-airing near/over you: he drops with b-air (you shieldgrab him if he does this or some other out of shield option), or he floats with more b-air (you take this chance to u-air juggle him, which works a LOT of the time ^_^)

Another thing to remember is that DDD's u-air has some invincibility frames on startup. Don't gamble in outprioritizing it, just dodge it or take it with your shield and punish afterwards.

****On the yoshi fight
Both you and the yoshi played really solid. The yoshi was exceptionally good in his ground game. There were some openings that you had to gimp the yoshi easily (but it required timing).

At 1:30, you hugged while yoshi egged. Since pikachu has least amount of ledgegrab lag of all characters, you could have detached quickly (if you timed it right) and n-air yoshi as he wasted his second jump. Yoshi's pseudo-superarmor wears off the moment after yoshi initiates an aerial, so you would've hit yoshi for sure without fear of his super armor screwing you over (plus you would still have ledgegrab invincibility so an instant yoshi u-air wouldn't have hurt you either ^_^). That could have been one stock gone early.

From my experience (Yoshi is one of my secondaries) yoshi has a hard time approaching with anything other than b-air. Even with yoshi using b-air, sometimes moves such as pikachu's f-smash/d-smash will still nail yoshi. So the other approaching options that yoshi would have is literally 1) running>dashgrab (spotdodge and punish); 2) short hop neutral air (shield and out of shield punish); 3) dash attack (counter with shield and shieldgrab/out of shield ****); or in some cases where the yoshi is EVEN BETTER 4) DJ'cancelled neutral-b (spotdodge it if it's low and punish the crap out of him for sticking his tongue at you... or spotdodge and keep up your shield up if he does it high cuz he can n-air right after it barely... pika punish out of shield like normal).

Another weakness that yoshi has ALWAYs had: if you knick him during his second jump, he's pretty much dead for sure (that or yoshi will take a BUTTLOAD of damage cuz egg-toss's recovery path is so predictible so hit him hard). Most yoshi's will try to save their double jump for last, but still be on lookout for it. The thing about Yoshi's DJ, the superarmor dissappears whenever yoshi does an aerial. That means if you advance towards a double jumping yoshi, HE CANT ATTACK YOU IN THE MIDDLE OF THE JUMP without potentially risking his life. All you have to do it outprioritize/outspeed yoshi's aerial (or trade hits at the very least ^_^, which will STILL work). A hard enough hit will also take yoshi out of his super armor if yoshi has some damage on him. Be weary of yoshi's that can time their aerial right after they take your hit with their superarmor. In this case, multi-hit moves are the better choice (remember, even trading hits will screw yoshi over and a weak hit of a multi-hit move won't give yoshi much of any additional height so if you knick him low, not even egg-toss can save him.

To summarize, yoshi has a hard time approaching pikachu, so take advantage of that (yoshi is somewhat very predictable). D-smash and sometimes f-smash will BEAT yoshi's b-air if he approaches (not retreats/defends) with it. Shield the dashes and n-air and punish afterwards, spotdodge the grabs and whoop em during their incredible lag. Yoshi's have a better bait and kill game than an 'approaching' one so don't fall for it. The eggs will annoy, but they are easily avoided (full jump airdodge in one place). Make the yoshi come and do most of the work and you play the bait and punish game. IF you bait and get their second jump, then its an early easy kill ^_^.

For being sleep deprived, you sure put up a really good fight--at least early in the DDD match and yoshi match. Really, it is a top-level type of pika. Nervousness gets to everybody... you'll own them next time ^_^.

Ok the WERIDEST thing happened today.
it was me vs. HiROI,(Peach) and i was at like 90 or 120.(i cant really remember), anyway, i used qa, and for some reason i ended up under the ledge of FD, and peach was still on top of the stage, and ground floating, she n-aired, and it hit me >.< wtf?, i was NO WERE near her.

Ok the WERIDEST thing happened today.

A lot of hitboxes extend below the ledge. Pikachu's dash attack has a similar effect if you do it while an opponent is under a ledge. Spacing is require but it is not impossibly hard to do. The biggest advantage of this is that the victim possibly gets suprised and stagespiked (2 nasty effects) and dies early.

I already have a part in a vid where my crewmate, WERK, utterly screws me (literally) with this mechanic. @ 1:52

Peach's n-air possibly has one very small part that can hit you through the ledge. I just make sure i have some invincibility whenever i am under like that (that or keep this possible outcome in mind ^_^).

Actually I think the reason he was hit while under the stage was because he was using QA. During QA, there are some frames where Pikachu's hurtbox stretches out really long vertically. Most likely Peach hit you during those frames of your QA.

Could've been either one, really. Depends at which point he was in his QA..... the way he described it, I imagined he was pretty much done with QA if he was underneath the ledge, but who knows.

Good point... just thought of the hurtbox thing after i just watched me and my bro's TL vids where i got QA crazy (boomerangs hit me a ton more).

Either way, be weary when QA'ing under the stage (we hope you have another unit of QA left for survival).... otherwise, you shouldn't be under there ^_^. Sweetspot is nice... ^_^

First thoughts... Fighting against an MK.. Fighting against an opponent who's tag i recognize (indicates that the MK is decently [skilled]).... Good job already, since you put up a close fight. It's an MK so people win some and lose some. I like how you attacked after SL a couple of times, tried to do the buffer grab, and utilized autocancelled d-airs for some zoning.

As Anther says, when facing MK's, there's no other choice than having ninja-like reflexes. Some stuff that could have shaved off some damage is buffering a jump or possibly a roll after you sweetspot the ledge, since MK hit you with SL a lot of times when you tried to get back on from clinging the ledge. D-smash eats through 'nado easily also (only if the 'nado is non-grounded one). The constant u-air juggle by MK is a hard situation to escape. You did well in airdodging the coming SL, but afterwards either MK switched it up slightly, or you stopped airdodging anymore. Of course, its all mindgames and reading at that point and I understand. Remember in terms of QaC's, try to jump out of them all the time or continue buffering more QaC's (as opposed to standing there or shooting a t-jolt) until you land in a safe position away from MK because most MK's just shield the jolt and come dashgrabbing in (i mean almost always). Also, I feel that most MK's are more prone to straight up dashing grabs. Mentally, if you see a situation where you'll normally dash>u-smash... substitute and think "dash>grab" and most of the time, you'll grab MK easily. At least the only thing MK can do you punish your dash>grab is spotdodge or tilt (which will also counter an u-smash anyways if pika was originally going for an u-smash).

I really can't provide too much help at this point yet. MK is a hard matchup at times. Props to the matches being so close. We know you can get 'em. You know you can get em ^_^. We'll be rootin' for ya.

I think the reason that your videos haven't been critiqued yet LPDK is that there are so many of them, that nobody wants to bother watching an hour worth of Brawls

I watched a couple, but the only one I really remember was the first. All I can really comment on would be your method of punishment. When the TL missed a grab (the one at 0:52) you used Dsmash to punish, which was DIed out of for 8%. Now of course it's right in the middle of the match and you can't really stop and think "What would be the best choice here?" but you probably could've gotten a sweetspotted fsmash which would've hit him pretty far off the stage for a potential gimp (He was at 70% and fsmash was fresh I believe). Hey, I don't really have any offline tournament experience though, I'm just going by what I've read and experienced online. Oh and on the subject of punishment, how much damage/knockback does a partially charged skull bash do? It's always nice to see a Pikachu charging up in front of you and you can't do anything about it.



On a side note, I don't have any means of recording matches in a way that would be at all decent, so would anybody be willing to do a couple of wifi matches with me just to give me a little bit of advice? A couple of people I've faced in online tournaments have said I have a nice Pikachu, but I'd like to actually get an opinion from Pikachu mains. Preferably somebody near Vancouver so there isn't as much lag.

WOW! ur pika has gotten much better man!
a couple things: why are u QAC and then doing nothing? seems like you get a nice QAC setup and then you just land on the ground. try using fair or dair out of it.
good CG as well, though a better falco would **** you up on castle siege with his CG's.
keep practicing, ur getting better from ur last vid u posted.

So, I plan to get some replays up of me playing pikachu so that others can give me some critique - but, I don't have any idea how to get the replays off my Wii and onto the computer >.< I have the infinite replay hack, but I'm not sure what to do after that =( Any tips?

Well since you won on most of them, I couldn't really say much. Try posting those on volt tackle vids ^_^. The one game and watch loss was just unfortunate. If he's got the bucket, most of the time the only advice i could give is to bait it out and block/avoid it. I f-smash and d-smash a lot less against a full bucket G&W.

Overall, you did great and have improved since the last time i saw your videos. Good job and keep up the good work. Personally, I like seeing MK's and marth getting beat up by pikachu. ^_^

Oh beautiful! Just what I needed. Alright, I'll hopefully get some up within the next week. I'm hosting a Brawl club at my School, and this weekend is the first meeting. I should be able to get a decent vid or two from that. Of course this means I likely wont be playing any high level players... But I'm hoping people can still get a good feel for my style and my habits.
