I am saying that I would love to beat the living daylight out of Cloud, Sephiroth, Tifa, and most other FF characters, but I don't want them to appear in the game, with the only exceptions being the Black and White Mages and the Chocobos; I can tolerate them just fine.

Except that Paper Mario is boring and lame. Dr. Mario was an iconic and fun game. He appeared because of the idea odd a Dr. Mario costume. There was no indication of Paper Mario being wanted in any form.

Dr. Mario, even on his own, has a lot of personality potential. He could use defibrillators for his forward smash (which is what my friend and I always though), he already shot pills, he could even have Germbuster be his final smash. He could also have his winning and losing poses from the game be in there. I think Dr. Mario definitely has more content in him.

Paper Mario is just Mario but flat. I don't see what is so special about him. Now, I would like to see a stage from the Paper Mario games. That would be fun.

Yoshi and Wario deserve a rep before Metroid.
Yoshi is barely separate before Mario, and you have to consider who the character you're adding is. Adding Kamek or Baby Mario before Ridley would be strange.

Which I agree with. Ridley is a very wanted character. He has consistently placed high on polls and many want him playable. But the point of this post was to jab at the people saying Metroid did not deserve another rep.

FE is fine as is. I know a new FE character is requested or expected by almost everybody.

I agree on all these points. As I mentioned, the point was reps. FE has more reps than Metroid and people still want another one, yet they deny Ridley?

The characters were added (a lot at least) because people liked them, but not enough to be characters themselves.

I may be misinterpreting what you're saying, but I think a number of characters were chosen because they couldn't get on the roster due to time constraints (i.e. Saki as possibly suggested on his page).

Toise of Choice, I consider you to be one of the few voices of reason in this thread and possibly the best one. The sales argument is flawed and people who use it seem to be under the impression that Smash Bros. is like a Nintendo congress. I think it ultimately lies whether a character is wanted, and if there are potential characters in each series. MOTHER has a lot of potential characters, but Metroid is very limited due to its small cast.
