Season 4 is almost universally considered the best season to date.
You saw the smoke monster in seasons 1 and 2 as well.. >_> You'd prefer an actual monster? Don't you get that the fact that it's 'nothing/smoke' is kind of the point?
Seasons 1 and 2 had huge amounts of character drama, too.
Season 3 meandered a bit and is probably my least favorite season, but if nothing else it ended incredibly. edit: and had some incredible moments too
