BRAWL
General Rules
-------------

3 Stock (4 Stock for Melee)
8 minute timer
Items are set to "off" and "none"

* All sets are best 2 of 3 matches. Bracket Finals and Grand Finals are Best 3 of 5.

* If the timer runs out, the victor is determined first by stock and then by percentage. In teams, each players stock/percent is added together.

* Resolving Ties: If percents are the same or both players die simultaneously, there will be a 1 stock, 3 minute, same characters, same stage rematch.

* In the event of a dispute, controller ports will be selected by ONE ROUND of Rock-Paper-Scissors. In teams, controller ports shall be used in a 1221 fashion.

* You are responsible for your own controller and name tag. If a match is to be restarted due to controller functions, it must be agreed upon by both parties.

* Stalling is banned.
Stalling: The act of deliberately avoiding any and all conflict so that one may make the game unplayable. Running away from an opponent to reach a better position is not stalling, while using an infinite to run out the timer rather than to score a KO is. As such, any infinite chain-grabs, locks, etc. cannot exceed 300%.

* Any action which prevents the game from continuing (i.e. by causing the game to crash or causing all characters to freeze indefinitely) is banned. If the Tournament Organizer or a judge can conclusively determine the player responsible for the failure, that player loses the interrupted game. Players are expected to know their characters and prevent this from happening.

* No player may choose a stage they have already won on in that set unless agreed upon by both players.

Set Format
----------

1. Opponents make their character select screen choices for the first match, DOUBLE BLIND PICKS OPTIONAL.

2. Opponents start the stage striking procedure.

The stage striking order changes depending on the number of stages allowed. When reading this order, “1” is player 1 and “2” is player 2. The optimal striking orders are as follows:

* 5 Stages (Melee): 1-2-2-1
* 7 Stages (Brawl): 1-1-2-2-2-1

3. The first game is played, using the stage chosen during step 2.

4. The winner of the previous match announces his 2 stage bans (1 ban in Melee).

5. The loser of the previous match announces the next match's stage from either the Starter Stage List or the Counter Stage List.

6. The winner of the previous match chooses their character.

7. The loser of the previous match chooses their character.

8. Repeat steps 5-7 for all proceeding matches.

port town needs to be banned. i got gimped so hard by this stage in a tourney this past weekend. a jiggs main took me there and camped under the stage and made use of an impossibly hard to dodge rollout (no ledges to grab and no safe place to land)

also the cars are near impossible to dodge on a specific part of the map if you are using a character that isn't jiggs/metaknight/kirby

The "specific part" being where they go across the stage right to left, yeah? Just camp the top platform. Victory!

The cars are 100% dodgeable forever.

PTAD is good for Jiggs, MK and several other characters, and bad for characters with bad recovery or who rely on specific stage control techniques like Snake. It has some stage gimmicks that can KO you if you aren't familiar with it (or that can be abused by certain characters) and some that may save you if you otherwise would have died. Where have I heard all that before?

Hey, this sounds a lot like what makes a counterpick stage, a COUNTERPICK.

How is that any worst than when other chars 7-3 jiggs on neutrals? Why is she not allowed such a thing? Because you think its "unfair" you lose to jiggs?

Hmm...... I THINK.... I could make that work. Yeah, that should be doable.

i can't complain without someone raging or calling johns? yeesh

You made a ban request in the presence of a BBR member and someone who debates everything, what did you expect? Even if it was just a complaint, the fact that we've frequently been dicussing legality of stages (including PTAD) kind of gives the impression that you were serious.

PTAD is a bone of contention between me and Jordan here.
It's quite an unfair CP against tether recoveries imo

I don't know if my opinion really matters, since I don't really play Brawl anymore, but if you're going to use a character with a tether recovery, shouldn't you compensate for it? I mean, if that's really your only way to recover, then why would you put yourself in unnecessary risk that would warrant its use?

port town is too small for doubles; it lacks recovery options for many characters and has too many hazards for doubles play. singles is fine, just learn the stage before a tournament.

I can agree with Malcolm, the stage just seems like a ******** way to shark and kill anyone who isn't so good off stage and enjoy the edges. I kinda see counterpicks as stages that can be bearable by any character, I don't this bearable by character like olimar, DK, ZSS, even falco.
Of course, I'm only saying that because of their recoveries.
Yeah I can see it being ******** for others like DDD.

Umm, Falco is actually really good on Port Town. You don't know what you speak of Aaron.

Olimar actually does quite well too, if he stays on stage.

And PTAD is no worse than other counterpicks like RC for Ganon. You guys can't seem to get past the ledge thing for some reason.

Well I would definitally put it as much more boarderline than a lot of other stages.

Well let me ask you this, why is it so important to have that stage around?

In the end it came out at 12 legal to 8/9, including Mal for the ban.
Giving you guys a 60% or 57% to keep it around.

I'm not expecting anything to change, but I honestly don't like it, same with almost half the community.

Did you guys know today is the 10th anniversary of SWF? Go to 'Group Memberships' in your User CP and join the 10th anniversary user group (not social group, user group like Tournament Directors). Funny that it's the exact same day we chose to do HellaSmashed.

It's all about counterpicking, son. If you don't want to counterpick a character, you can always counterpick a stage. You know, because stages actually matter in the outcome of a match in Smash.

Katie gets it. :p

Also, you can ban it. Since, you know, we have two stage bans.

Well you guys are all talking like it's a really good stage when it is obviously boarderline.
If it was so great then why did we have to take a vote?
Nothings gonna change, but what is so bad if we got rid of it? It wouldn't kill anyone like banning MK.
