Blue shell is actually easily avoided. As it spins around you, time falling off the track. You lose less time than getting hit by it would cause unless it's a particularly cruel lakitu respawn.

EDIT: After looking at the OP, I saw that the price was listed for 179.99. I thought retail price was 169.99?
That is correct.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/3DS

On July 28, 2011, Nintendo announced the Nintendo 3DS would be getting a price cut from $250 to $169.99 in North America, €250 to €169.99 in Europe, 25,000 yen to 15,000 yen in Japan, and $349.99 to $250 in Australia.

This. It really works well. Yani endorses it

Huh. That'd be pretty interesting...

Zio, I feel you. It took me way too many times to get 3 stars on 150cc Mirror. Honestly I found that playing defensively is the best thing to do, and to check that bottom screen a lot. Also depending on the cup modify your kart a little bit. And take breaks. Breaks are good.

I don't know what game you guys are playing but I've easily 3 starred 4 out of 8 150cc cups so far... But then again I used to play Mario Kart Wii quite a bit so I'd consider myself a pretty good racer. I'll share a bit of my knowledge on avoiding blue shells.

Always take a quick glance at your bottom screen to see what items the CPU's have. The AI on 150cc is so good that the CPU in 2nd place behind you shouldn't be too far behind, so if you can see them trailing you, quickly break and let them have the lead as soon as you see a blue shell in the bottom screen. After the person in 1st gets hit (and they shouldn't be too far ahead), zoom right past them and retain your 1st place spot for the rest of the race. The only flaw with this method is that it can get annoying having to constantly check the bottom screen for blue shells, but the trick definitely works and it's always very satisfying when you successfully pull it off. In some rare cases though, you may be so far ahead of the pack that it may be best to use the above mentioned method and just fall off the track before the shell hits you to save time (if possible).

Summary: Constantly check the bottom screen for blue shells, then as soon as you see one you either...

a. Drop back in 2nd place to avoid getting hit (as long as CPU isn't too far behind you)
b. Drive off the course to avoid getting hit to save time (only do this if you are too far ahead to quickly drop into 2nd)
c. Just take the hit (only do this if both a. and b. aren't possible.)

As long as you're good at remaining in 1st place, nobody should have any issues 3 starring all 16 cups in MK7 once they master these tricks! Hope this helps.

I never knew the jumping off the edge bit.
Situational stuff is annoying though, the stuff you can't avoid. A few times it really did feel like everything bad that could happen in a race did happen, lol. Glad I'm done with single mode except for time trials.

We're voting now?

In that case I'll go with Sonic Generations, just because it's been eating up a lot of my time with the various missions you can do.

Zio, you signed up for MK7, so expect items to get in the way. Besides, getting 3 stars in everything easily is boring. I need a challenge, otherwise I will stop playing the game entirely. But stupid hard (such as F-Zero GX's Story Mode) turns me off. MK7 isn't stupid hard, because I KNOW that I can win, and it is fun to fail, since I know I can do better.

F-Zero just kicked you down, and kept on kicking you. Still a great game, just that stupid Story. =P

Then put me down on MK7 as well.

I put a lot of time into Sonic Generations and Devil Survivor Overclocked, but have not yet touched Mario Kart (of which I'm not a fan of the series anyway) nor Super Mario 3D Land, so I can't really give my opinion on those.

To make this clear, this vote is for the games we think are the best for the 3DS.

Not all the games we own.
Oh sorry, I think I got mixed up somewhere with the multiple votes going on.

If so, then I also vote for MK7.

Can Nintendo actually patch a 3DS game?

That article makes it sound like if they did fix it that it would be on later copies of the game, which would not stop anyone who has the game already.

If that's the case then fixing it would be the worst possible thing they can do. :/

Nintendo doesn't plan on fixing Maka Wahu track in Mario Kart 7

http://www.joystiq.com/2012/01/17/nintendo-doesnt-plan-on-fixing-maka-wahu-track-in-mario-kart-7/

Oh Nintendo...
They are talking about a generic e-mail that gets sent to all Maka Wuhu complainers. The writing of it implies that they were not going to update the cartridges, not that they wouldn't patch the game at a later time.

Can Nintendo actually patch a 3DS game?
Fire Emblem 3DS will be getting official DLC, so I assume that they can. The firmware update to allow patching might not be out or ready yet, however.

I went back a couple of pages - are you voting for the best 3DS game?

From that list, I'd vote for Kart 7, 3D Land and Street Fighter. SF may be outdated now, but it's a really good version anyway.

And shame at no Shinobi on the list, it's fantastic.

*goes back to play Shinobi*

Yeah this.

They don't have the power to patch already existing copies, though they might in the future.

I'm 100% sure they can patch games, they just mean some people wouldn't get the update since you have to get online, which would create an unfair situation. There's nothing difficult about patching a game. We use homebrew "patches" on our Wii systems, for instance.

Considering the main issue is exploiting the glitch online, I don't see how the situation is unfair at all, lol.

^ Yeah.

And there's a difference between manually changing one system and creating a mass auto-update for every system with internet access.

Huge difference, actually.

Well. All you can do is either do the glitch or not. Sadly most of the opponents I have faced exploit it. Play to win but ah well. I just know complaining won't help now. I'm still trying to unlock all the parts. I just got to the 2500 coin mark recently.
