Speaking of which, if you get a decent amount of people, we could also put it in the LH Tournament subforum.
I get the feeling that no one is really interested in Mario Golf World Tour.

Which is a shame since it's a really fantastic game.

Could you go into more detail?
Sure thing!

It's basically what you would expect out of a Kirby game, platforming with lots of cute thrown in. Kirby is still super adorbs, and he gets some new powers in this one. At least, I think there's a bunch of new ones, I haven't played a handheld Kirby game since Squeak Squad, haha. As you would expect, the platforming itself isn't super difficult, but I think it's more difficult than most Kirby games, and there's lots of cool puzzles that you actually have to think about sometimes, which is pretty neat. I thought the Hypernova power was going to be a gimmick, but it seems like there's more to meets the eye on that one, and it's used fairly well in the game. There's also lots of collectibles, so it scratches my itch to discover all the secrets.

You can control with the circle pad or the D-pad, and both feel pretty nice. It's also very pretty, not on the level of Kirby's Epic Yarn aesthetics, but still looks great and has a ton of charm. Also, it has a ton of modes kind of like Super Star, but I haven't messed around too much with those yet.

I would say that if you are a fan of Kirby games, then it's definitely worth it to pick it up!

I'm really glad that the Kirby series didn't die. I was scared for a little bit. I still have yet to play Return To Dream Land. The series is so underrated! I got Kirby's Adventure for 3DS and was so happy.

The opposite of happy occurred when the gameplay footage for the Hoenn remakes was ten seconds

With Iwata around, it's pretty safe. He's pretty biased towards the franchise because of Hal.

Hey guys, thinking of getting a 3DS or 3DS XL soon. I would go look at them right now at a store, but I'm currently recovering from surgery. Just wanted to ask a few questions...

1. I'm perfectly comfortable playing the DS Lite as far as screen size goes. So I don't think the 3DS should bother me...but does the XL make that much of a difference for you guys?

2. Which version is "thinner"? Not wider, but thinner.

3. How bad is the pixelation on the XL, due to the screen size being stretched?

4. Does the XL have better battery life?

Thanks!

I hope you recover very well!

1. I have heard people say the screen size makes a huge difference, and that the 3DS games look better. Haven't heard anything about DS games though.

4. The battery life is considerably better. A lot of people have gotten an XL for mainly this reason.

Although I don't own a 3DS XL, I could answer those two for you just from what I've read about it.

Thanks for the wishes!

Like I said, I never owned a DS XL, so I never had the pleasure of knowing what a big screen size like that is. I've honestly never held a 3DS or XL, so I won't know how it feels like. What I do know is that the DS Lite was perfectly fine. I am curious though to see how games like Mario, DK, and what not transfer over to the likes of a 3DS. It seems like platformers would be better on the 3DS XL.

The 3DS Xl seems to also have better placement of the headphone jack and stylus. However, the ergonomics and various color choices seem to in the favor of the OG 3DS.

I just hope that the pixelation isn't as bad as some people make it out to be. I'll try to see if I have the strength to head over to some store tomorrow.

1. The XL screen makes a pretty big difference. It's like comparing a show on a TV to a theater. Switching between them makes me feel like I'm holding the original farther away.

2. Like, front-to-back thickness? About the same, actually.

3. You'll never notice. Well I never did.

4. Most certainly. But since I prefer lower brightness my first one almost never died. But if you travel alot or prefer higher brightnesses, this would be reason enough to buy the XL IMO.

Thought I'd post an update. Managed to borrow a friend's OG 3DS. Really love the portability. Screen size didn't bother me in games like Pokemon, Phoenix Wright, or Mario. But games like Resident Evil or KH could be an issue due to a lot of stuff going on.

I have both a purple 3DS and blue XL sitting at home. I'll make my decision soon and return one or the other. It's time.

Decided to go with the XL! New proud owner! So many games to buy! I have a bucket list that I will post in a moment, but does anyone know of a good sleeve/case I can buy as well? Just something very minimal. Don't need to carry 10 games with me as well.

Bucket List:

DK Country
FF: Bravely Default
KH: 3D
Luigi's Mansion 2
Mario & Luigi - Dream Team
Mario Kart 7
NSMB 2
Paper Mario - Sticker Star
Layton vs PW
ProjectXZone
RE: Revelations
Star Fox
Super Mario 3D Land
Zelda: OoT
Zelda: Link between worlds

You guys recommend anything else? Not much of a Harvest Moon person. The Shin Megami Tensei series looks interesting, but I hear it's a super grind it out type of RPG.

I personally do not think grinding is bad in the SMT series, though admittedly, I do not hate grinding. SMT tends to be more difficult than the average RPG, enemies hit very hard and sometimes you will get a gameover from just having bad luck. New players might end up thinking they need to grind it out for a boss, when really all you need are smart buffs/debuffs and take advantage of weaknesses.

Also, SMT games tend to make exp scale depending on your level, so if you are under leveled you will end up leveling up faster.

Now demon fusion, that can be a time sink if you want to make something really powerful, but you can get by with simple demons. I do tend to get lost in creating strong demons though, so my view on the need to grind might be off.

I'll second Rutger on this, the SMT games tend to be targeted at hardened JRPG veterans and if you're new or a casual fan of the genre the main series games can be hard to get into. Fusing demons can be super fun and addicting, so if you're into character building you might enjoy that aspect of it. Be warned that if you're coming into SMT from Persona the game will beat you down.

EDIT: If it isn't entirely clear, by hardened JRPG fans I don't mean the game has a lot of JRPG tropes in its story that non-fans might find hard to swallow. I mean that the games assume you have a very through knowledge of how to make the most of turn-based combat and how to get the most out of stat building.

Wait... a lot European and Japanese 3DS games regularly get nice colour printed inlays in the eco-friendly holes? Did not know this.

Here's a Japanese one

Here in North America there's only 2 IIRC:
Kid Icarus: Uprising
Theatrthym Final Fantasy.

Edit: Kingdom Hearts DDD too

I hope Smash 3DS gets one here at least.

Kingdom Hearts DDD had this too. Other than that, I haven't' seen any others in NA.
Apparently there's only a decent handful more in EU, like MGS3D: Snake Eater, Super Mario 3D Land, Sonic Lost World, and A Link Between Worlds (part of a full colour alternate cover.)

Just a cool detail I wanted to point out.

Another Japan:

Europe got this too.

What am I looking for? Ripped paper?
Huh, that's not ripped paper, that's just the inside of the case with the inlays.I don't recommend taking it out but there's the full print.

Anyways, 109 days until Smash 3DS!

Theatrhythm (or however the hell you spell it) Final Fantasy was the first game I got that did that. That's such a cool way to take advantage of the packaging. I just got Shin Megami Tensei IV for 20 dollars. Before that it was 50 or 60 dollars!! I looked at the Gamestop price sticker and they were all stuck on top of each other, hiding all the different prices underneath haha

Shovel Knight's available on Steam as well. There will be mac and linux ports soon.

However, I find Shovel Knight on the 3DS as a dominance than all other ports, especially the Wii U.

I do not fully know of the Wii U's features, but here's I what I know by heart, not mind:

Wii U:
Digger's Diary (Miiverse Group + Live posts)
Big Screen
Quick weapon selection? I do believe there is one.

3DS:
Streetpass (Arena)
Miiverse Group
3D (****ing gorgeous; it really makes the music fit in twice as good for me)
Quick weapon selection screen (But I'd advise selecting weapons manually for tough spots)

So I just got Shin Megami Tensei IV a week ago and feel like talking so I'll give away some opinions on it thus far. It's funny because that game was definitely like 60 dollars at one point, and then it was 40, and then I got it for 20. There were all these stickers on top of eachother detailing a story of price drops haha.

Anyways:

SMTIV could definitely have been done on a home console. Its graphics are nothing amazing, but the game is pretty deep, its simplistic battle system underlying a LOT of complexity and customization of your party. Remember games like Dragon Warrior Monsters and Monster Hunter? It's like that, you catch monsters, and can use them in battle.

I don't want to really give spoilers into the story, but if you've played any other games in the series, you should know it involves demons and religious-y aspects. But in no way is it like "God is the best thing ever and no one should question him" or "GAWD sucks so much pain in the world give me a cookie blabkabla." It's just an element of the story. The real meat of this game is the demon aspect. In the very first part of the game, you can only recruit a small number of demons and then they learn skills, and that's that. But then you get into things like Demon Fusion which just opens up the game. A LOT.

Demons are mainly recruited by talking to them, using the Scout command on the battle screen. Only the main character can recruit demons, and it's not a simple task. Some demons speak a crazy language, including but not limited to jovial quotes such as "Hrrrrrrr! Hsssss! Hsss!" and "tu4842488^#*@ 2vhf^#8595*@" (but luckily, there's an app for that). Demons will often ask you questions about life in general, how you would treat them if you joined them, questions about themselves, and will ask for items. So the wrong answer or stinginess could lead to that demon not joining you, which causes you to lose all your turns for that round, and then they get to attack you. Luckily, demons have archetypes (think Animal Crossing) and ask the same or similar sets of questions, which can serve as a guide, albeit not always the most reliable one since demons are really fickle, apparently. The Scout command can also be further improved by allowing you to ask the demons for money and gifts, or other things. Keep in mind though you can only one of each demon, and if you try to recruit another of the same type while one is already in your stock, you end the battle prematurely, gaining no experience but sometimes getting items, money, or even healed.

Demon Fusion is crazily complex, but also really fun. It kind of overwhelms me sometimes because you think you have good demons, then you fuse to get better demons, and then you see even better demons available!! Once you have a sizable stock of demons, you will have a lot of different ways to make a variety of demons. Some are much better in stats than others, but some have certain skills that are also desirable. If you look around a bit in the Demon Fusion App, you can see what skills the newly fused demon can inherit from the demons used to make it. So if Demon A and Demon B are the "parents" Demon C can have some skills from each parent! Some skills you might think useless (like status buffs/ailments), but most of them actually have their need once in a while. The ability to have so many demons in your party means you can basically prepare for any situation, not unlike how Chrono Cross took advantage of its many members. You can also see a little history vignette about each demon if you look around, which is a nice Pokedex-like addition that helps give you more than just an image (which are all hand-drawn, and look beautiful).

The battle system is pretty standard. Nothing crazy, really. You have four party members that can participate in battle, with the main character always being a requirement. There are around eight elements used, those being of the Agi (fire), Zan (wind), Zio (electric), Bufu (ice), Phys (Physical), Gun (Gun/bullet attacks, different from physical), Hana (Light), Mudo (Dark), and Megido (Almighty). Each demon has certain affinities for certain elements, with some even being able to even absorb or reflect spells. That's why Demon Fusion is important; Demon Skills are not just attacks, some things like "Resist Elec" can be carried over so the new demon can cover its options. If you fight well and find the opponent's weakness and get critical hits, you gain turns in battle. So after the fourth member goes, the first member could go again. It doesn't happen everytime, but you can often have one-sided battles where you or the opponent keep scoring extra turns. So be careful not to miss the enemy, or hit it with a spell it can absorb, nullify, or reflect. You can lose a couple turns, or your whole set of turns depending.

And now I don't feel like writing more so there is your mini-preview.

Get your 3DSs ready
Considering the Zero games were amazing and the series looks over, would love to get this game. I loved those Megaman Zero games!

I haven't played too many 3DS games mainly cause I have spent too much time on Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate. Although I have loved Devil Survivor Overclocked as well.

To all those who own Animal crossing: New Leaf, I need your help.

During my game, I'm planning to erase my town, because I realized that my house is not well-positioned (too close to my river...).

And as a result, while I'm resetting my town, is there any very kind players who could keep all my possessions in his town until August 28-September 4 ?

FYI, I have "only" 70 furnitures to temporarily move.

Thank you in advance.

Concerning fans of the Dragon Quest series. . .

Square Enix has apparently at least some interest in bringing the Dragon Quest VII 3DS remake overseas (which is personally the one that I am interested in, more-so than DQ X / XI); The problem lies within whether or not the game would actually sell. The interview remarks on things such as the games positive reception, but it'd cost for the manpower and time to translate all of the text within the game, etc. "Going back to people who want DQVII to come out… we’ve gotten a lot of requests, we really want to do it, but right now, we need to hammer out what kind of resources we’d need to do it. We say this a lot, but, we can’t seem to get to the point where it’s justifiable.”

Edit: It looks as if Square is going to be taking it (the localization) further into consideration now as well. . . If I may, it really does seem like they as a company are ignorant towards their fanbase(s) overseas. Now I am not saying that DQVII would be an automatic huge success everywhere (they'd have my money, though), but they should still probably get those kinds of things together. . .

Sorry if this isn't the right place to post this, but I need some feedback from anyone who owns a 2DS.

I currently have a normal 3DS, but I'm scared that the hinge will eventually break (like my SP and DS Lite did). I'm considering buying a 2DS mainly because it isn't clamshell shaped, but I'm not sure how good it is when it comes to games (just about all reviews I've found of it mainly talk about the design). Also just to note, I don't really care about the 2DS not having 3D.

So to anyone who owns a 2DS, here are my questions:
  1. How good is the mono speaker on it (is it loud)?
  2. How does it feel to play games that mainly require buttons (like Smash)?
  3. How does it feel to play games that mainly require the touch screen (like Phantom Hourglass)?
  4. Is there some sort of pouch for it so that I could carry it around (or place it in so it doesn't get dusty)?
  5. Unless mentioned before, what do you not like about the 2DS?
  6. Overall, is it worth buying a 2DS?

Hey guys, my brother's L button on his 3DS just locked up. The system has it constantly being registered as pressed even when it's not. We've tried blowing on it and cleaning it with a toothbrush but it hasn't worked. Anyone know what to do? We don't wanna call Nintendo to try and avoid having to pay for it but right now it's seems like we don't have a choice.

I've had this before. Can't give a solid answer but I suggest continuing blowing on it, toothpicking it, and try to shake it out (all WITHOUT severe force).

Maybe also try those compressed air sprays used on computers.
