On that note I would love to see more crossover platform fighters given this kind of love. What companies/franchises do you guys think could have their own AllStar Brawl if they were given an equal amount of love and dedication?

For me I'd want
-A reboot of Cartoon Network Punch Time Explosion
-A reboot of PlayStation All Stars Battle Royale
-A new Shonen Jump Platform Fighter
-A Sonic Platform Fighter
-A Capcom Platform Fighter
-A TMNT Platform Fighter
-A Fairy Tail Platform Fighter
All of those would be cool, and I'd also like to see Xbox's take on the genre. If all the big three had their own platform fighter that would really put pressure on the devs and I think we'd all benefit from the resulting games.

Of course they can't do that. It costs money and permission to use voice clips.
If nickelodeon owns the rights to them, I would've thought it'd be easier to include them. Not that I'm familiar with how they operate, but still would've made a big difference for the game.

They may own the rights to the characters but the voice likenesses is a different story. I believe they'd need to pay the VA's even if they are using recycled clips from shows (Which in itself might be jarring depending on the quality of the clips). So that could very well be a deterrent, thus keeping costs down.

Its like getting to use someone´s likeness. Even of they have the rights to the character portrayed and the IP, the actor would have to be paid when that likeness gets used. That is the reason the princess from Enchanted is used less than any other princesses despite the suceess. Disney would have to pay her to use her character for any project.

A Cartoon Network Punch Time Explosion Sequel or Remaster could be something i'd take and a Playstation All-Stars One, i would like though i fear sony's not gonna do it justice.

Especially current Sony who shut down Sony of Japan for no real reason and seems to want to give these realistic narrative games special treatment. I do hope one day they'll get back to their routes and give the title another shot

Agree, Hopefully they'll follow suit or hire someone who answers the fans' needs on character representation with sony following their opinions.

Of these, PS All-Stars and Capcom would probably get my attention the most first. I'm also looking forward to Fraymakers as an indie game platform fighter, but that game is real (and also features Slap City content in its base roster).

So, we've had a lot of info given out today! I'm unsure if there were ever especially high odds of it popping up in PlayStation's livestream tomorrow, but I personally will still be satisfied if the IGN breakdown ends up being all the big news we get this week.

So, now we wait and see if that Playstation Presentation tomorrow bears any sort of fruit...though I'm honestly expecting nothing, to be frank.

I truly hate the lack of any voice clips at all. The game LOOKS and SOUNDS fine in every other department, and I even like the music. But the fact that there's no grunting makes it feel like such a lonely experience.

And that's a major shame because every other aspect of this entire thing looks like it has soooo much love put into it. Seriously I can't believe what these devs were able to pull off on this budget! I've seen people on the web talking about how this will compete with Smash and I disagree with the notion of that competition entirely. This looks innovative as heck dudes. They're really pushing the platform fighter genre forward. It's not an upgrade or downgrade from Smash, it's just a totally different experience with an entirely unique style. Can't wait to see what kind of community it grows a year from now.

That all said... I agree with what someone here said earlier about thinking it'd be cooler if, instead of DLC, we got a quick turnover on a real high-budget sequel in a couple years. The game is incredibly impressive for the size of this dev team! It's a major accomplishment that they should all be proud of, but these iconic characters could totally do with a mainstream game budget. Especially if it gets to be the same team being paid even more.

Reminder that Power Rangers Battle for the Grid also had a similar low budget, potentially even lower and still managed to add a lot of stuff anyway, voice acting included (with some of the original rangers like Austin St. John and Jason David Frank reprising their roles) so if the game does pretty well, we could get the voice acting later down the line. Unless the VA contracts prevent them from appearing in games like these, it tends to happens sometimes.

the only one I could potentially see not happening is Nigel, but he makes so many animal sounds that I don't think it'd be a huge loss

If NASB is there, the devs would tell us. Like what happened with every other event.
I don't think it will be at the PlayStation Showcase and I don't think anyone should get their hopes up, but also PlayStation events don't reveal their contents in advance - heck, we don't even know the first-party offerings it will have, nevermind the third parties that are presenting. I doubt they'd be allowed to tell us if they were going to be there per their agreement with Sony.... though, again, I also doubt they'll be there at all regardless.

There's also the fact that Oblina's voice actor is now death. Maybe they can take voice clips but I'm not sure if they would be allowed.

I'd love a Marvel platform fighter. I don't hate Capcom characters, but I never really cared about most of their characters and Marvel have way more than enough content to have a full game on their own.

You mentionned a Sonic platform fighter and as much as that would be cool, I would prefer something more like Sonic and all stars. Give Sonic a bigger focus, but also put classic Sega characters from franchise like Streets of rage, Golden Axe, Jet set radio, Nights. And the final characters would be the Hornet car from Daytona obviously.

Gameplay looks great. My biggest problem is that they UI is rough, it looks like a fan game. I know the budget was low, but Smash Flash 2's UI honestly looks better. It's a problem to charge $50 for a game that visually looks like a bootleg version of Smash available on a Nokia phone.

Ooooooh, a tier list with a bunch of possibilities! Now, that's the kind of multiplicity I can get behind.

I'd add Katara into the Avatar possiblities, at least for now. It is honestly kind of hard to predict who else would get in from the franchise without seeing Aang and Korra's movesets, as Korra could be doing a lot of water-bending or she could be doing not very much at all... For now, I'd keep Katara in consideration if nothing else.

Larry the Lobster hanging out in the next round of Spongebob picks would be a twist. He has the muscle for it, I suppose, though idk if I would want to witness the fandom's reaction to him getting in over Squidward or Krabs... Which isn't to say that he couldn't end up being really fun, of course, controversial picks can be fun.

Speaking of controversy, Luna's an interesting one too. Will Nick All-Stars do what Smash still hasn't done and make a proper rhythm-based moveset? How would they balance that? Or would she get a trick moveset based on her pulling out a lot of items from Loud House episodes, like her brother and sister have been doing...

Pipe dream central, but I'd want:

  • Sega
  • Shantae & WayForward
  • Crash Bandicoot
  • DC Comics
  • Ubisoft so that the Rabbids don't randomly hijack a different property for no reason
  • Microsoft
Jimmy is in a really weird spot where there's not much going against him, but I still cannot help but be pessimistic.
At the end of the day, we just really don't know what'll happen until after the game launches. We can only hope for Nick to not be so out of touch to ignore the trends of modern fighting games, so there can be extra support besides patches (with prodding from Ludosity).

On that note, if the in-game purchases noticed on European steam don't refer to unannounced DLC support, what do you think it might be? The only thing I can think of is costumes.

I've always thought a Crash Bandicoot fighter should be a 3D arena fighter a la Power Stone or Shrek Super Slam.

Perhaps that's what Wumpa League is? Most likely case it's a shooter of some sort given that's Activision's thing and what consistently sells, but arena fighters would fit Crash to a T.

Anyway, a Microsoft crossover would be amazing and if it were released on the One and Serieses simultaniously it'd be enough to get me to buy the prior - though, while I'm not keen on "this character is missing so I'm not buying!" mentality, no Clippy would be a dealbreaker for me.

As far as I can see, it would concentrate purely on the homegrown Xbox characters (assuming it isn't just Halo), Rare characters and Psychonauts.

It wouldn't necessarily need to be rhythm-based, just have her be a semi-ranged fighter with her riffs, plus the item stuff you mention.

Also, it would be a nice excuse to have the clash of the instruments depending on the picks: Luna's guitar versus Squidward's clarinet.

You're really underestimating the amount of IPs Microsoft have at their disposal - there's much more roster potential there than just "Master Chief and Rareware All-Stars Battle Royale" - in fact, it'd be much worse for an MS crossover to emphasise Rare given they're not really Microsoft's biggest team. Just a pirate and Fulgore would do the trick - even Banjo and Conker don't strike me as 100% necessary unless they either have a big roster or need a beginner shoto character when Doomguy, Chief and Steve don't cut it (kinda like how Kratos and Sackboy were the PSASBR mascots but PaRappa was the shoto)

Personally I'm not that confident with the Beavers chances, I would have put Otto rocket instead. Membrane would be an interesting choices, I'm not sure if they would really go with a second Zim characters because despite the big cult following, it's still pretty niche compare to some others shows. I also think that there's a possibility that the team wanted to work with as much franchise as possible, which is why I think we could get Rocko as the last new series (after Avatar and Korra).

Speaking of that, there's pretty much 3 weeks left before launch if we assume that the October 5th is legit, and still 6 characters not oficially revealed. My guess is that we'll get characters reveal really fast at this point, maybe 2 characters reveal each week starting next week.

Here is a list of channels were Ren and Simpy aired in Mexico, many of them with dates before 2002:

I have 0 reason to be lying about this. Please, trust me on this.
So it did aired in Nick Latam in the 90s, but only for a year. Not surprising as the show ended in 1996, so they proably aired everything the show had.

I would be very happy if CN would try another time the Smash formula with an actual good developpers. CN Punch time explosion XL was pretty bad because it felt that every characters played the same with little thoughts about moveset. The roster was pretty great but I would gladly take a smaller roster like Nick all stars if it means more polished moveset. Oh and put the Eds this time because I don't understand why they weren't in the game.

On another topic, it's kind of weird that they still haven't officially said that the game released in October 5th considering that's in less than a month and the big gameplay showcase today. Maybe this was a placeholder dates and it could be internally delayed to later in October or November?
The reason the Eds weren't in the roster was probably the same reason why Timmy and Jenny are not in this game. Ed Edd n Eddy was a Co-production CN and A.K.A Cartoon, so they probably own some copyright regarding the characters.

Change Sonic to Sega and im on board.

Im shocked Sumo Digital never attempted a Sega Platform Fighter, when their attempts at mascot racers were superb.

Yeah I'll echo others' sentiment here and say that I'd much rather have a full-blown SEGA crossover platform fighter over a Sonic-only one.

All-Stars Racing was turned into TSR and SEGA Heroes is dead, so we don't really have a big SEGA crossover thing going on right now. Some might say Monkey Ball, but those are guest characters, I'm talking about something centered around the crossover

Personally, I'd want a Disney platform fighter with exclusively villains, that idea began off as a hypothetical way of skirting around brand image mandates, but the more I think about it the more I realise the villains have way more moves to work with.

Not to distract from the topic, but yeah, a Sega platform fighter is my biggest want for the next people to jump into the fray. They have the IPs and the vibe that could make for something special. In fact here on Smashboards Speed Weed is running a very fun thread where we vote in concepts and characters to create our own Sega platform fighter so if that interests you...

Ok got it. Can say I didn't think they'd need to pay even just for the 'likeness'.
Maybe would cost some but I think would add a lot, It would deserve a higher budget in any case xD.

Anyway, can't do anything about that I guess. Will do my best to enjoy the gameplay itself

A Disney platform fighter either including or based entirely around their animated TV shows.

I wanna see Luz Noceda fighting Lena from the DuckTales reboot at the Mystery Shack.

I'm not really seeing them doing a Rugrats Go Wild stage. It would be too weird.
