It actually is possible in Brawl, PMEX Remix is able to have male and female Robin, Corrin, and Wii Fit Trainer with the appropriate voices.

The main problem is that this means each of those fighters has to take up two "slots" in the Clone Engine rather than one like most fighters. Whenever they get to Bowser Jr., he's going to have palette swaps instead of Koopaling alts so he doesn't have to take up eight slots as a result.
Oh, that’s cool. I haven’t messed with Brawl mods since before Smash 4 came out so I’m pretty out of date with any recent advancements.

I know this has been said many times before, but I hope character support threads will open back up as soon as the next game is announced or teased, because I really don't wanna have to read and argue the same bull**** over and over again.
Until the connection to smash bros is reestablished via official announcement, we are stuck with stale energy for now. Speculation is more on sparks and fumes without proper fuel to ignite the hype train.

Will there be any character in the future that wouldn't require clone engine?

Tried my hand at another illustrated move set like I did for Oatchi awhile back, this time for Tom Nook. Since there wasn't an official comic to use like there was for Pikmin, the animated-ness of this moveset is probably a lot less vivid but I tried my best with the official renders and art I had access to. Hopefully the images load correctly.

General Stats and Premise
(note: not shown here due to my limited artistic abilities but many of Tom's mainstay moves would utilize the bell bags, such as forward smash and forward/down aerials)

Neutral Special: Pocket Change

Side Special: Savings Swing

Down Special: Furniture Leaf

Up Special: Corporate Ladder

Absolutely perfect, no notes

...okay, one note. If Tom Nook is KO'd, does he lose Bells?

Hmmm I'd think that he would start somewhere in the middle like at balance of 5,000 bells upon respawn. I think that way it sort of incentives the Tom player to go ham on spending at high percentages since being overly conservative with the bells would not do any good.

Him and Mr. Krabs were a pretty blatant inspiration for the moveset lol
I mean it does feel kinda weird that every platform fighter EXCEPT Smash is doing characters like this (with some kind of money mechanic that affects gameplay) when you really think about it lol

Business Casual Man in Slap City, Mr. Krabs in NASB2, Shovel Knight in Rivals of Aether...

Of course Nook would come back with some cash already in his pockets.

The raccoon is such a privileged businessman. :4pacman:

I think part of the reason is that the "resource fighter" archetype kinda already gets used up on characters like Olimar and Robin who's currency is not actually money

Actually, now that I think about it, is Steve technically a resource fighter that uses money? He doesn't use it exclusively, but he can power up his Smash attacks with gold and diamonds, so...

Gold and diamonds only have monetary value when sold. They themselves are not "money" :4pacman:

Unless you're telling me paying for things using diamonds is totally normal for you.

In Minecraft, Emeralds are used as a currency to trade with Villagers, while gold and diamonds are usually used as crafting materials. So, emeralds would be a better analogue to money.

You can sell gold directly to Piglins in return for random loot, although, since they each trade one ingot for one random thing, I don’t know if it can be counted as a currency since its value isn’t fixed. In the spinoff Minecraft Dungeons, however, gold is used as a currency exclusively by a distinct Piglin salespig, and since Smash does have a bit of Dungeons content in its OST, I guess it is money then?

Although, arguably, Minecoins in Minecraft Bedrock are even more money-ey money since you get them by spending real money and can use them to buy stuff from the Marketplace. I’m not sure if that counts since they exist pretty much only out-of-universe though.

I think they should bring back Coin Battles for the next game. The coins could be different for each stage.

For example, in a Mario stage, they could just be regular coins, but in a Zelda stage, they're rupees instead of coins, and in a Sonic stage, they're rings.

Tom Nook could be an amazing newcomer, hear me out on this. They already had a system that was perfect for a character like him.

Who remembers Coin battles? :sakbanjo:
And I think you might have just given me an idea for Animal Crossing's first hidden fighter...

As for how to unlock ol' Tom?

Acquire a combined total of 1,000,000,000 coins in Coin Battle.

Frankly, I'm a bit surprised now that Smash 4 DIDN'T use this method (or something similar) to unlock Wario in that game.

I love it! Had a pretty similar concept in mind for Nook to have a bell-themed variant of Pocket (which you gave your own unique spin), and that bag swinging Side-B. The Corporate Ladder is a pretty ingenious idea, and of course a top notch pun. All in all, maybe a bit higher concept than I anticipate for him, but you did a fantastic job visualizing how this money resource mechanic might operate in a way that feels all its own. Knocked it out of the park once again.

Did you have anything in mind for the Nooklings? Not to be all "two Flickies" about it, but I thought it would make sense for them to scatter in and out to assist with smash attacks or carry opponents back for grabs. I don't typically love summon stuff, but if it makes sense anywhere I feel like it's here.

Maybe they could be apart of Tom's throw animations like Toad is for Peach?

They'd probably also be apart of his Final Smash since it's likely to be building a house with explosives in it.

I don't know what to make out of this...
So, it was Microsoft that canceled this collaboration. What does that tell for Smash?
I mean Amazon Prime show is one thing, but Call of Duty is a solid, gigantic franchise... on top of being the series they own. So what gives?
Is Microsoft becoming a bigger hurdle than Japan for Master Chief? This may apply to Doom Slayer for all I know...

I'd rather have fitting 4th party characters as the Ninja Turtles, whatever anime or Marvel character or anyrhibg than some type of shooter character in Smash from the likes of Call of Duty or even Fortnite. Doom and Halo are acceptable but... hardly excited for the prospect at all.

Luckily I don't think they're ever gonna happen.

I’m generally cool with most things but I’d personally be really hyped for the TMNT or my favorite Marvel characters. That’s not to say that they would or even should ever happen though. I agree Call of Duty is a bit generic. I’m not too excited by a random soldier guy. Fortnite seems to have enough unique mechanics to be interesting though. It could be cool to see what Smash did with the building mechanic in a different way than Steve.

If anything Fortnite ever happens, just don't let it be Steve + more ranged projectile zoning. It was obnoxious enough already with Steve.

I don't with the Generation Z characters to be this OP and annoying basically.

Yeah, that’s fair. I don’t personally care about Fortnite or Jonesy but I’m cool with him if he does come. I just hope he’s better balanced than Steve. I’ve brought her up before but my choice for a Generation Z character is Jinx. She’s just got so much character and personality that Jonesy lacks. I’ve done more than my share of cheerleading so I’ll just leave it there for now lol.

Jinx is not a Gen Z pick. League of Legends is...

looks up how old League is

...looks up how old Minecraft is

...Oh my god we're old. All of us are old. We're so old the games that we label as "kids these days" games are played by adults who grew up with them.

Actually I think the problem is that Gen Z is very fast approaching not being "kids these days" at all. They're 13-28 years old now so more of them are adults than not, and almost half of them (rounded up) are old enough to drink. That's of course assuming each age has the same number of people, but still.

Diddy Kong Diddy Kong and Gengar84 Gengar84 were actually correct. League of Legends and Minecraft are Gen Z games...But Fortnite isn't because it's too young. Specifically, it's Gen Alpha.

Hello guys! :)

I see a League of Legends character is begin discussed. I'm honestly not sure what to think about the chances of a LoL rep. On one hand, it makes perfect sense as LoL is probably one of the most played games of all time (or it was at some point at least). But on the other hand 2XKO, the LoL Fighting game exists now. Tencent might not want a LoL character in Smash to take away the spoilight from 2XKO, it sounds dumb...but this is Tencent what we're talking about.
But also 2XKO is coming in 2025 and Smash 6 is probably a 2026+ release, so maybe the release date of each game is distant enough for Tencent to be more leinent.
As for the LoL rep, i think it's going to be either Ahri or Jinx. I think after the sucess of Arcane, i think i'll give Jinx the edge. Her desgin, moveset and personality also would fit well with Smash's chaotic nature as well.

Also on a side, not gonna lie, i was in the "Smash 6 is not going to happen in a long time and we'll get Ult Deluxe" camp. But after seeing Mario Kart 9 announced for the Nintendo Switch 2, which is also a game i though that we wouldn't seee in another decade minimum, i think Smash 6 is far a more realistic posibility than i previously though.
