I would be fine with it, especially if it was the player character or Bullet Kin (the face of the series).

Timing is actually what I think kills Alear's chances, imo. We have direct quotes from Sakurai about Robin that outright confirm that being too early is a detriment. So unless you think the next Smash is in development literally right now (it isn't), Alear is likely getting skipped.

Reminds me of how people were saying Shez from Three Hopes could happen for Smash 6 before Engage came out. Nowadays? Completely forgotten about.

I don't want to sound like I'm opposed to it, but it's far from being one Switch best selling games. I couldn't find Switch specific number, but according to Devolver the game sold 3 million copies total. Even asuming that around half of the sales are on Switch, it would be very far for one of Switch best selling games, it wouldn't even be one of the best selling Switch indie game.

It depends on which characters don't come back, tbh. If a popular one is left out, I can see them being an exciting choice for the final DLC character.

There's also a possibility that we'll have a breakout star that most people would like to see added with DLC but doesn't exist yet similar to Inklings.

Master Chief I think has a strong shot of doing so, if only due to how impossible he once seemed. If he happens earlier, who knows.

Crash, which is why he's last on my DLC list.

He was created as a console mascot to compete with Mario and Sonic and he's regularly mentioned in many people's wanted list for Smash Bros. Ending the DLC with another one of Mario's perceived rivals would be pretty hype.

I think the biggest hurdle Tom Nook or another Animal crossing character will have is if Sakurai (or whoever is the next director) will have an idea for a more original moveset. If not, the question is: is there really a reason to have a third character with a fairly similar moveset? But to be fair, considering how huge Animal crossing is I don't think it will stop Tom Nook.

If not, the question is: is there really a reason to have a third character with a fairly similar moveset? But to be fair, considering how huge Animal crossing is I don't think it will stop Tom Nook.

Unlike Isabelle, Tom Nook is an easy Echo for her, since they have the actual same bodyshape. She can also be further changed up(though she's pretty different already) and then given an Echo with minor changes too.

So it works out well for Nook either way~

If Tom Nook has enough differences from Villager and Isabelle, the situation won't be much different than Star Fox's - where Wolf is a fairly unique character but have enough superficial similarities to Fox and Falco that most causal players won't think twice before calling them clones of each other.

And as you said, that's without going into how much bigger Animal Crossing is than Star Fox.
