NGL, surprised they're still doing monthly updates. Though now we don't know what's coming...

Anyway, feel free to use this as an excuse to discuss Wave Race in Smash.
Well, THIS is a surprise! If this is coming to the service, I wonder when 1080 is going to happen...

By the way, I take it that no one here was aware of the fact that I created a Wave Race/1080 for Smash thread, huh? I'd like to see Ryota and his sister Akari in Smash myself. I mean, maybe give Ryota some jetski moves as standard attacks. Same goes for Akari using snow/ice-based boarding attacks.

i'm curious: how many people use 8 player smash on a regular basis?
I used to because I do like having a game of just absolute chaos but recently it’s just been 1v1 with my roommate which is just as chaotic honestly.

Heck yeah! Wave Race is awesome.

I actually had some moveset ideas for a Wave Race character once. They'd always be on their jet ski and all movement would be a series of jet ski maneuvers. They'd have a gimmick similar to Bowser Jr. where the rider takes more damage than the jet ski.

And water would be incorporated into a lot of their moves, like a dash attack where they skid to a stop and splash their opponents with water.

Maybe it would control something like Kirby's Jet ability? A lot of stop and go?

Really we don't have very many water fighters. Squirtle and Greninja are the only ones.

the reason why i was asking about 8 player earlier is for me it's become something of a novelty that's worn off and i was wondering if the same was true for anyone else

Nah, my friends and I still play it when we get together.

Now we don't get together very much due to circumstances but Smash is a common game and we love that we don't have take turns for it.

8 Player Smash should become a mainstay for the franchise. It's a fantastic addition.

It's a novelty for serious players like us, but for households full of kids who all want a turn to play on the Nintendo, it's probably a necessity.

If Tetris got a rep, and aside of obvious **** like the SEGA's monkey and the explorers duo from Jaleco...

I think the guys from Puyo Puyo Tetris are viable. (not impossible, but not possible too cuz there are Puyo characters that have a far better shot)

We played 8man while waiting for locals to start cause it was like 16 entrants lol and half were getting food or socializing so we just played 8 man in that crazy huge stage with like lava and stuff I forget what it's called.

Hmm... a fair amount, I guess. A bit less than in Smash 4, I think. I do agree with Swamp Sensei Swamp Sensei and EverybodyLovesAria EverybodyLovesAria though in that 8-Player Smash truly is one of the best additions to Smash Bros., and that it almost feels like a near-necessity if you live in a big household or have a lot of friends who want to play Smash.

Great to see a fellow Wave Race for Smash supporter here! Out of curiosity, which Wave Racer do you want to see in Smash? Ryota Hayami, Ayumi Stewart, etc.?

If Goku is Japan's Mickey Mouse,
And Ultraman is the country's Superman

Who's the american equivalent of Mario?
(It is not Sonic cuz we was made in Japan, nor Crash Bandicoot.)

Speaking of novelty modes, anyone remember Coin Battles? Kinda starting to miss that
It would be great if they could change it so that each stage had its own "coins" (like Mario Coins, Zelda Rupees, Kirby Point Stars/Star Coins, DK bananas [just because], Sonic rings, etc.)

Yeah, it's actually really weird it never came back for Ultimate, especially since Coins are used for much more in this game.
You know, it would be a neat Classic bonus stage if you can actually collect coins that you use in other modes in addition to the ones you earn just be going through it.

Doraemon or Astro Boy would be closer to Japan's Mickey than Goku.

Goku might be closer to Luke Skywalker or something, if not Superman.

The American equivalent of Mario is probably Master Chief.

Soooooo any smash leaks lately? Anyone got any insiderz? Anyone got a roommate working at nintendo? A uncle? What’s blocked content up to Iately?
Closest I got is a Mario movie "leak" that's WAY too good to be true. I'm talking Stanley the Bugman as one of the main characters and TONS of Mario & Luigi references (complete with a post-credit scene that teases Bowser teaming up with Fawful).

Yeah, the next Nintendo Direct can't come soon enough...

Though slightly more interesting, apparently there's a chance that Shiver (one of the Splatoon 3 idols) is Nintendo's first major non-binary character? We're still trying to figure out the details on that one.

Uh all of them. Usually I hate the "Koopaling" approach but I think Wave Racer is one of the concepts that make it work.

Way to set yourself up for disappointment. I mean, the supposed "E3 replacement Direct" didn't came out yet. It's been ages we heard of titles as the BotW sequel. Makes one wonder what is even happening over there. Kind of disappointed honestly.

All am expecting out of my wants is DLC for Three Hopes, am certain that'll happen, the rest not so much.

It's been a boring few months so far. Granted I still need to get Xenoblade 3, and properly finish Three Hopes but still.

Yeah, you're probably right. But I thought people were saying the Partner Showcase WAS the E3 replacement...

TBH, it feels like we've had quite a bit of announcements and releases this summer that I don't think we really needed an "informal E3 Direct". No publisher, even outside Nintendo, really cared that there was no E3 since they just gave us all the announcements regardless.

I agree that Wave Racer should be a hydrokinetic Ice Climbers style, but I think it would be even better if they get on their Jet Ski only for a Side B and/or Dash Attack.

Guys there’s yet to be a September where we haven’t had a direct since they started
Technically 2020 didn't have a true General Direct because Nintendo was in full Partner Direct mode that year lol.

But tbf even though we didn't get an E3 Direct this year, Nintendo still did do a traditional Direct back in February so there's a decent chance they'll do a proper Direct in September as usual. This year's made it apparent that they've only done proper E3 Directs out of obligation towards, you know, E3, and without that, they just do whatever whenever they feel like. They were originally gonna do their big Mario 35th anniversary blowout at E3 2020 where they would've revealed the Mario 3D All Stars collection, but then COVID came along and demolished all of their plans.

I hope we don't have a problem with COVID again next year because I want to see E3 2023, especially the Nintendo Direct.
