Google trends is google searches so interpretation is not always straight forward. For example terry being well known might lead to people searching him less. Another thing is that Mai might be searched for other reasons as well since the search results for her are an order of magnitude above the rest.

If Mai is being searched up for “other” reasons, doesn’t that help her case in regard to how popular she is?

I always see people argue that “Mai is only popular cause of her appearance or how sexy she is,” but I always fail to see how that detracts from her popularity. Like a “it doesn’t count,” but it’s on the contrary. Mai’s cult status extends FAR beyond gaming BECAUSE of her sexuality. She’s a sex symbol akin to say Lara Croft for example. Right? Many people know Lara from her films or even just general cultural impact. It’s a similar story with Mai, people becoming familiar with her without even knowing what KoF or Fatal Fury are, just cause they like the way the character looks.

That’s always been my argument for why Mai is the most popular of the bunch, I, and I know many other people too, who aren’t really into KoF, knew about Mai YEARS before I ever even picked up an SNK game not called Metal Slug. And it’s not even cause porn or anything like that, she’s just that prolific, she shows up in a lot of stuff cause she’s very iconic all around.

I never really understood the idea of why “it wouldn’t count” Terry, Kyo, etc... are all popular SNK characters within the SNK fandom and even gaming. But Mai is just popular in general, with a reach that extends well beyond gaming into stuff like fashion, modeling, figure collecting, and “other” stuff. Her cultural impact is significantly greater than the rest of them.

Yes, there's a 4chan leak with Ryu and Terry on it. That's likely what she's talking about. I still don't think Ryu's in.

The way she said speculation will get 'REALLY wild' makes me hope we are in for some crazy surprise like an Assist Trophy upgrade (Isaac please for the love of god) or even a god damn anime character (if so please make it Edward Elric) but yea the chances of either of them are extremely low.

Honestly the guess they made with how the trailer likely will go isn't that farfetched, trailers continuing after eachother has been a theory for a while.

To be fair though, annoyance can be a teeny bit subjective. Tier list scrappies or joke characters can fall into that without having an annoying voice per se, for example.

Melee Fox is one of a kind, his Japanese voice in Ultimate is actually closer to Melee, though I wish they’d just kept the same voice clips. Same for his look, Melee is the best he’s ever looked.

I gotta be honest, it's REALLY bugging me that we have literally not heard ANY SNK talk from any of these leakers until yesterday and now they are acting like they suddenly agree it's a full confirmation.

Well...I’ve pretty much given up on this Fighter’s Pass containing anything that will really excite me. Certainly lost some of its value for me personally, as its probably going to end up being $20 worth of underwhelming choices and $5 worth of a choice I fully understand/could get behind/enjoy (Banjo, the one thing the majority of the community can agree on).

Happy for the fans of the characters I suppose, though disappointed overall with the picks.

I guess I can’t be too mad though, considering the base game is already a feat in and of itself. Though with nothing truly exciting for me in the DLC, it feels as if Ultimate is going to end on a relatively weak note (again, personal opinion).

Finally, leakers just freaking suck. There’s no avoiding leaks once they get out nowadays, and it kills any and all hype/excitement/interest I could have in a character whom I’m unfamiliar with. I had hardly any interest in Hero once he was leaked (though considering the archetype he fits I may not have been too excited in the first place), and the same applies to whomever this SNK character ends up being.

Wouldn’t be surprised if a fair amount of the community feels the same on a few of these takes too. Or maybe it’s just personal feelings. But I guess you can’t blame someone for being unable to get hyped about something they don’t know/don’t care for.

Again, keep in mind this is all personal opinions (and unpopular ones at that). So don’t feel like I’m attacking anyone. Just putting my feelings into the mix.

Hopefully I’m wrong though and we get something I, along with the majority of the community, can find interest in for Fighter 5.

I absolutely hate leakers, and I wish they’d all shut the **** up. They kill ALL speculation by centralizing around what they say, and much like you mentioned, they can ruin the surprise for characters that would have been much more exciting if the surprise wasn’t ruined.

Best example of what I mean is with Ryu and Cloud in 4. Neither of which was leaked by an “insider” iirc, but Ryu was datamined, and he was the most antihype character for 4 for the longest time, until people came around to him after his official reveal, then you compare that to Cloud who was kinda equally lukewarm among the community, but because he never got spoiled, EVERYONE lost their minds the moment he was revealed official because of the surprise. I imagine the reaction to Ryu would have been nuclear like Cloud’s had he never been datamined.

And that’s the moral of the story. Reading a few words on a screen of who the next character is, is nowhere near as exciting as the surprise reveal Sakurai and his team have worked hard to create, even if it’s a character you’re excited for as well. Cause within speculation, there’s always that doubt, but once an insider with credibility drops some info, it’s unquestionable, and completely unavoidable these days if you’re into speculation. I honestly wish they’d all **** off cause all they do is ruin everything for everyone so they can stand in the spotlight for 5 mins and feel special. But well, complaining about it isn’t gonna change anything.

You just reminded me how glad I am that the one character that didn't get leaked for Ultimate base was King K. Rool himself who likely won the fighters pass.

This is what I’m personally hoping for. I’m hoping for a curveball leak which will make speculation run wild, such as an indie or 4th party rep.

I think they replaced his voice clips because Fox doesn't normally have a thick accent. As for his design though it's been pretty consistent. Brawl pretty much just added more detail and changed his boots to red in order to have the color appear throughout the design. Also his microphone switched sides which is incredibly minor. Personally I like his Super Smash Bros. Ultimate design the best.

Read what I wrote more carefully. Not when he was announced. Prior to. Cloud was always looked down upon as a joke in Smash during speculation. Hell, he literally WAS a joke way back in Brawl taunts. But the reveal was so hype cause of the surprise most people became super excited for the character.

I really don't want Terry Bogard. I'd much rather have Metal Slug.

Metal Slug has so much more crazy and outlandish content. Seeing a stage where all the bosses show up in a manner similar to the Dracula's Castle stage would be extremely cool.

I picture a stage based on the train stage of Metal Slug 2 where bosses like the Dragon Nosuke, Keesi II and Aeshi Nero show up to either attack the fighters or act as new platforms. Maybe a final confrontation with the Dai-Manjis and Rugname (the ships of the Mars People) whose ships can be boarded and even attacked.

KOF doesn't have very interesting subject matter for stages and we'd probably see a repeat of the Suzaku Castle situation. I'd much rather have a Metal Slug boss parade stage.

These are actually my same feelings. I'm not really listening to anyone.
An SNK rep would come down to either Terry or Marco in my opinion, and I'm fine with either. And I'm getting Banjo anyways. So I'll just wait and see.
I must admit that all the drama that comes from Smash speculation is fun though, lol
