We knew Nintendo calls the shots but apparently some people didn't get the memo.

That would be neat as we'd know if the characters are still being decided or not. However, it could be that they aren't decided yet.

Either way, if we can go back to speculation... I think that if we get another full "season", my bets on a Capcom character will intensify. With the way they love their DLC and crossovers, there's very little against another pick from them. Dante would be the frontrunner in that case, I believe - he was disconfirmed from the Pass, but from now on, it's anyone's game.

It would probably go a bit better this time around. Three Houses has been out for awhile and is generally considered a good game, as compared to Fates being controversial and not being released outside of Japan yet. And there are a bunch of people who really want an axe user.

He was a frontrunner before that if you ask me. I mean, DMC is one of Capcom's biggest franchises, it just got a new, very successful game and people ask for him in the community.

I meant in terms of speculation, Dante was never really considered until a guy claiming to be the DMCV leaker saying Dante was in about July last year iirc

If we can keep making ask memes about everything, I don't see why talking about speculation act itself is a problem.

I think there's something fundamentally wrong in how people approach Smash newcomer discussion and ignoring it isn't going to fix this. Current over-aggressive and competitive character talk only encourages extreme behavior in fans.

I don’t think putting a spotlight on the community’s awful, toxic behavior is a waste of time either. I think it’s important that the community is aware of this kind of thing when they show support for what they want.

I’ve said it before but you could add another 3 or 4 Capcom characters and it wouldn’t even look weird. They have such a treasure trove of great franchises.

No it won't.

If you're a fan of one of those franchises then chances are you're a fan of the other Capcom franchises. Banjo vs Steve was two different fanbases from different generations that were hyper aggressive against each other and took a party game roster way too seriously. I have higher expectations from the Capcom fanbase.

I'm hoping that character pack fighter #5 is a Capcom character, and hope that if we have another fighter pass it might have another Capcom character in it as well. Personally Phoenix and Jill are my wanted for Capcom.

Some people might compain that Smash is turning into Nintendo vs. Capcom, but it's not Capcom's fault that they have so many popular characters and are more than willing to play ball when it comes to crossovers.

I feel like I sometimes take this stuff too seriously, too, though I don’t like rudeness or spam and I do none of that, but I do sometimes argue with people who act like jerks and gatekeep or insult and aren’t really worth the time, or they just seem to say things rudely (and sometimes I reread things I post and feel I may have come off as rude myself even if I didn’t mean to), and I guess they’re part of what y’all mean tbh. Generally, I'd agree, but aren't there places specifically for this on Smashboards?

I've lost count of how many times the conversation was derailed into people venting about toxicity in the last few weeks. While it's important to "shine a spotlight on it"... I think there's a time and place. Dunno about you guys, but personally I'm tired of spending hours of my energy into stuff that just annoys me. Even more so when a lot of times, you can just not feed the trolls.

I mean... most people already seem aware of how toxic the Smash community can be - we've all been here for years. And the people who do the sort of thing you linked to won't change because of a Smashboards post long after the fact, you know.

Pretty much, yeah. Monster Hunter could potentially be out because of Rathalos and the MH songs, but even then it's a possibility, because we have no idea how next season will work.

There's also a few dark horse picks, like Viewtiful Joe and Arthur, but their chances seem to be waaaay smaller.

Keep in mind that Monster Hunter's representation only came with Rathalos. The only spirit is Rathalos. The only songs are related to the Rathalos boss fight in World of Light. If Rathalos truly was Monster Hunter's representation then why not go out with a bang and include all kinds of different monsters and the hunter as spirits and songs?

It's because of the lack of different MH content that I believe Monster Hunter is a strong contender for next season and should not be slept on.


EDIT: Not to mention that MH didn't get it's Mii costume back during the last direct even though there were some Capcom Mii costumes revealed. Which does raise some eyebrows.

I really hope that this after Fighter Pass DLC delve into 1st party, so many cool characters to put as DLC in there, and I generally find them more appealing than the 3rd party, having a mix of 1st and 3rd party would be the smartest decision IMO, appeal to both side of the fan base, and continue to enlarge the crossover, it's a win-win for everyone

And well, the ones I do want in 3rd party aren't exactly the most popular choices ever, I mean, it's not like people don't like them, when I brought it up, they get mostly positive reaction, it's more that they aren't brought up much if I don't say anything

There's a lot of songs to pick if a Hunter joins. World is the best selling title and is also the newest entry to the series so I can see them picking songs from it and maybe a remix or two. If they do remix a song then my vote goes to the battle themes of Nergigante and Rajang.

Been around the 1st party community, and made a lot of 1st party centric discussion happen in the past (off this topic), people are a bit more varied than that, also they (including me) want Bandana Dee, not Waddle Dee, it's different, it's like people didn't want "Human", they want "Ryu Habasusa" (for exemple)
But yeah, people want more varied choice, Zelda characters as a whole have been asked for quite a while, new IP too, like Ever Oasis or Astral Chain, retro ones too like Panel De Pon or Murusame's Mysterious Castle, demands for RPG Mario characters are also there, Fawful, Dimentio, Paper Mario etc ... King Boo also saw some popularity, especially with Luigi's Mansion 3 releasing soon
My point being, they are more fan bases than just that haha
