Ryu Hayabusa debuted in October 1988 and Strider debuted in a video game March 1989, so I'm kind of calling bull**** on the "new characters" line of reasoning. Just say he's generic and you prefer others instead of bringing up Strider.

Also fun fact I didn't know until I looked this up, Strider actually originally debuted in May 1988 in a manga before Hayabusa, so I wonder if he's even eligible as a non video game originating character...
I also said Hayabusa feels generic to me but whatever.

I feel like, in that instance, he still is. Because the manga was specifically co-developed alongside the game to be a promotional tie-in for the game. It just happened that the manga guy was faster than the game devs.

It would be like saying Star Wars characters are actually book characters, not movie characters, because the novelization of the movie came out before the movie.

What are you basing "Nintendo fan" appeal on?

Who the "fans" speculate or the character's prevalence on Nintendo consoles?

I can see the former but not the latter.
A mix of both, someone with some sort of Nintendo fan mindshare. I definitely imagine we’ll see atleast one character who doesn’t have that (like :ultjoker: :ult_terry::ultcloud: :ultsnake:), I’m just curious to see how many it’ll end up being.

I know. I just really don't want another NES Character.
Good thing Ryu is also both an Xbox character AND a fighting game character. ;)

Maybe not, but given that they took 11 months to make this fighter, they wouldn't have time to do so during Smash 4's DLC or FP1, and Steve was excluded from the base game which had a limited newcomer budget, it's easy to assume this is what Sakurai wanted even in 2015.
I don’t think Steve’s moveset was actively being planned since 2015. I’m pretty sure there’s moves in Steve’s kit that weren’t around back then like the Elytra. I’m not entirely sure though since I took a “Minecraft break” from early 2015 to early 2019 lol

For reference, the Elytra was a 2015 edition, using a firework to propel with it was added in 2016. Magma Blocks were also added in 2016.

True, but then there's also the generic half of the reason why I don't want Hayabusa to join. Since Hayabusa also feels very generic to me, another reason why I mentioned Strider Hiryu.

Weird question, but is there a Sergeant Cortez support thread? If not, you should definetly start one, given just how passionate you are.

Who knows. Maybe you could start something big... unless you prefer the memes, of course. Don't worry, I won't judge
Excuse me for the late reply but I have made a Sgt. Cortez support thread since last year. In fact it's on my signature though I do admit it might be difficult to tell since it isn't very eye catching. I still need to work on a better banner.

Has anyone else here heard of/played Fighters Megamix for the Sega Saturn? It reminded me of Smash because of how wacky and WTF the character roster is. Like you can play as a literal car, or the palm tree from Sega AM2's logo. Or a chunk of meat named Mr. Meat.

(RIP Bark the Polar Bear. No wonder he barely appears in Sonic games anymore!)

Oh, sorry about that. I'm on mobile, so I don't know how to see signatures.

A half-dragon, claw wielding, staff spinning, scythe swinging, Izuna dropping Ninja that inspired generations is generic?

I’m just busting your balls. If you don’t like him or think he’s generic I’m cool with that. He is a Ninja, one of the first at that, so his design is definitely going to be rather basic. All is said and done though I think you’re missing out on what Hayabusa can DO and what he can BRING based on how he LOOKS.

Sky City Tokyo can easily be one of the most beautiful stages in the game. What with its take on modern skyscrapers, spotlights, and helicopters mixed with Japanese traditional architecture and cherry blossoms.
And of course there’s the music and, personally I love the music of both trilogies.

Ah gotcha, I totally forgot Magma Blocks are “newer”. It was a ton of fun taking a break from Minecraft because there was so much new stuff to discover when I started playing again last year.

Is it his design or gameplay potential? He does a lot of really cool stuff in the Xbox games outside of katana slashes & kunai throwing.

I tried to Play it through...Means, but The Game wouldn't work. The Roster is interesting though besides the Car and Bark and Bean Appearing in it. I Believe it even had the Human version of Honey the Cat

Wasn't Pepsi Man also in this game?

Nah, a classic NG stage is the way to go. Wouldn't look as good, but it could have enemies spawning out of thin air right in front of you. And birds. Lots of birds.

I'm not sure that he was in Megamix, but he was in the Japanese version of Fighting Vipers for sure. I'd hope Scoliosis Jones Scoliosis Jones knows about this, otherwise he might be in for a big surprise.

There's also the fact that Steve seemed pretty much done in Sakurai's presentation (which was filmed in August, I think?), meaning CP8's development could be in a relatively advanced stage - yet they must have felt it was better to delay him slightly due to Nintendo's calendar and to coincide with Minecon.

It's why I think we could see a tease for CP8 by December, even if they'll only release in 2021.
That's what I'm thinking too (Sakurai did say mid-August, so CP8's likely gotten most of the attention for two months now). An October / November reveal seems really unlikely - if not nearly impossible - if only because Steve is still fresh and it could be rather (to say the least) difficult to release CP8 by the time Christmas rolls around.

Granted, Steve was nerfed between presentation and release (namely how far from the stage he can place the block and how long the blocks last) so that might be another factor to consider too.

Personal Taste.
I think the argument here is that personal taste is perfectly fine but don't try to make up excuses to justify yourself. If you don't want Hayabusa, then that's that, people seem to be afraid that they need to justify why they don't vibe with something which is a damn shame. Making up reasons to justify yourself just makes people poke at them, especially if they're flimsy

I am convinced people started on the Hayabusa train due to verg. I never saw him mentioned anywhere until that leak. I dont think he has a chance. Given the reps so far, I dont see how the "He is retro and most wanted" fits. We know Banjo and Hero were added due to the ballot. but was Ryu up there? I never saw support. We dont know why Joker is there, but Terry is Sakurai's choice. Minmin and Byleth are definitely Nintendo's.

Just not seeing Ryu.

besides, if we are going with 1980's ninjas. 1986 . Why not Goemon?

Ryu seems Cool as the Ninja character (Ane he'd probably only use the Katana as the main Melee Weapon)

But I'd Prefer Scorpion (or Any MK Ninja) as the Ninja Character

I'd Prefer Dante as the Action Game character (only if he comes with more than Swords and Guns though)

And I'd Prefer Vergil as the Katana Wilder

But I still think Ryu would be Cool

Hayabusa getting in does not mean Scorpion or Dante will not get in, Joker did not exclude Hero or Byleth after all

Because Goemon was skinned alive and made into a Mii Costume. :4pacman:
I kid, I kid. The Mii Costume creation process isn't nearly that morbid... I hope.

Hey. Given Konami, I think that was his best outcome at the moment. Him being a Mii costume is perfect ammo for the next time.
I also like the mii costumes. I want every character to be their own thing, but it is clear Nintendo wont do that. So skinned Goemon is what I got, so be it.

I can’t say the same for everyone but I’ve wanted Hayabusa since Smash 4. But then again, anything that gets popular often resorts in people calling everyone in that group a band wagoner, and then it goes into the character being overrated, it’s a shame but there’s nothing can be done about it.

Edit: Hold up, there’s a lot of holes in your argument. None of the characters in the DLC have been confirmed to have come from the ballot. The only thing we do know is that Nintendo chose them. Not Sakurai.

Technically No, But I wouldn't expect them If Ryu Got in though. It's just a Vibe I get from all of them that I Only expect one of them in the Pass. That's just me Personally. I just expect the whole Pass selection to be more diverse this time around

I understand what you mean. I have been wanting goemon since Brawl. And he was skinned alive. But my main thought is that people are convinced he is a given. he will be in. Which is way different from wanting him.

If they go with goofy 90's Ryu with the generic ninja costume and the wall jumping, It would fit better. If we do get him, I just hope it is not edgy Ryu from the try hard series. I prefer his retro design.

Just to rewind a bit if you don’t mind I would like you to acknowledge the part in your post where you said Banjo and Hero were chosen from the ballot. I don’t think that was ever confirmed. Plus, on Joker, Sakurai said that Nintendo was the one to choose the characters so I’m not really sure where those points were going.

Granted I do know that Banjo and Hero were very popular in individual parts of the world but I’m not sure if they were Ballot choices like Ridley, K. Rool, and Simon.

That's fair, but if your reason is that you just don't like him, then there's no further conversation to be had. Before I played Symphonia, I really Did Not Vibe with Lloyd Irving potentially getting in because I just didn't like him. Nowadays, I've played Symphonia and I.... Still don't vibe with Lloyd, though I have reasons so I guess it's not the same

It is all up to interpretation. But I know for certain Banjo had to be ballot. He is to niche now given he has only had 5 games, with the last one being a flop. Banjo being added had to be fan demand. For Hero, I just assume it is the same. I mean, he is Mr. RPG. I am assuming Nintendo looked at the ballot and said "These will make money."

Either way I am glad that Hayabusa has finally gotten his limelight after more than a decade of me wanting him but I often try to bring him up less and less because I don’t want him to get stale on peoples minds. I want people to be happily surprised if and when he finally makes it in. So, yeah, it’s a bittersweet feeling with Hayabusa’s popularity. I just want him in. Legacy, character, stage, music, and gameplay ideas all appeal to me and it’s the closest I’ve ever been to getting him in Smash so I guess that’s something for the DLC speculation cycle.

He is already a Mii Costume?

Btw, I suspect that Steve got very high votes during 2015 ballot and Smash team thought about it, but maybe they find it difficult to implement because of 3DS hardware limitations, so that would explain the “five year negotiations” they had with Mohang.

We also know that Nintendo also looked for Sora for FP2 but negotiations fell because of the high price Disney asked. Its highly likely that Sora also got a very high place at ballot and Nintendo have thought of him in the past for Smash 4.

So, maybe they will look to another characters that got high places at the ballot. (?)

The Hayabusa train started long before Vergeben. There was the Doomabusa leak in, what, March of last year? Then IAmShifty adamantly claimed he was negotiated for, possibly for FP5 in November, and only now has Vergeben weighed in and said he's heard about it.

Also your argument falls apart because while Banjo and possibly Hero are ballot picks the other DLC characters absolutely aren't, therefore being a ballot pick isn't a necessity. Hell, by your standards, if there can be Sakurai picks then Hayabusa as an iconic NES character is totally up his alley.

And are you really asking why Ninja Gaiden would get a character over Mystical Ninja?
