They couldn't possibly add Sora. His feet are too big, and scaling them down wouldn't be a faithful representation of his character.

In all seriousness, as much as some people would be against it, I too would want to see Mickey, Donald, and Goofy appear in some capacity. Sora's spirit board would feel incredibly soulless in my opinion if not a single Disney character appeared. I get that Kingdom Hearts has a lot of its own ideas and settings, but Disney still plays a huge, enormous role in the series. Having Kingdom Hearts representation in Smash with literally no mention of anything Disney wouldn't feel like very good Kingdom Hearts representation, at least in my opinion.

Not everything relates to Smash you know, besides the characters were decided back in 2019.

Unless we're getting another wave of DLC and they're still doing negotiations for that, it's at best a Mii costume or spirit event.

I know this doesn’t guarantee Sora, but I wouldn’t throw in the towel just yet. Characters were decided back in 2019, yes, but Sora would be one of those if he does get confirmed.

....I didn’t know how else to word it other than that character being decide in 2019 neither confirms nor deconfirms Sora.

Last time, in Kingdom Hearts 3.14159: Electric Boogaloo The Pre-Sequel & Knuckles Featuring Dante From The Devil May Cry Series Prepare To Die Edition

Medeus threatens Mallow's family by siccing his army of Dragons on them in order to hide the fact that he's working with Xenahort and Paper Bowser Jr. on their shared quest to use Byleth's Sword of the Creator to turn Geno into a book so that the trio of villains can convert Nintendo and Square-Enix's characters into Shrödinger's Paper characters made out of Paper and Nobodies. Thus preventing Doomguy, JC Denton and Marth from lending the heroes aid and further isolating Sora from the others. Causing Geno to mistake Byleth for a bad guy.

While Xenahort starts his Schrödinger's Paper plan, and while Geno and Byleth fight each other, Knuckles took the right toin at Albuquerque together with Bugs Bunny since they're looking for Mickey. However, those two wound up in Red Grave City instead (JUST AS PLANNED from Xenahort's PoV), right as Dante and co's fighting Heartless and Ansem SoD. Even as Dante uses the OP-PLS-NERF powers of raining down Red Orbs on Ansem's face and Trish / Lady / Nero lend their aid, Ansem just keeps on babbling about "DARKNESS!". Hearing that one too many times causes Bugs to declare "Of course you realize, THIS MEANS WAR!" as he and Knuckles joins Dante in battling Ansem. Meanwhile, Vergil is somewhere else, goaded by Xemnas into battling Link so Vergil can take the Master Sword.

And that's Part 2 / 16 of Xenahort's totally-foolproof-and-not-idiotic plan.

Random, I suppose, but I was thinking about Dante and Monster Hunter being considered “bandwagon” characters.

To be honest, I don’t think either are.

I will agree that clearly, new games being on Nintendo consoles definitely upped the attention the characters have gotten. This happens with basically any character. However, I think it’s revisionist to say that neither character is in the running ONLY BECAUSE of the bandwagon from fans.

Dante has always been a fan want, just not necessarily as visible as some of the other fan wants. Itsuno himself was asked about Dante in Smash which, if I remember correctly, was in response to fans wanting him in Smash.

Monster Hunter is clearly a popular franchise, with World being Capcom’s top title overall. The popularity is there and it’s really hit the mainstream with World.

Both are excellent choices from Capcom, and I don’t really know that either would necessarily be an inferior choice to the other. I personally think Dante is the pick, and I want him to be the pick, but I would graciously accept Monster Hunter if the roles are reversed.

You got to remember guys, Nintendo allowed Bethesda to put Doom on the SNES back in the day and they censored it to the extent of how NetherRealm Studios censored Mortal Kombat on the SNES I believe. It's possible for Sakurai to tone down Doom Slayer in Smash.

Oh man... I really, really want Mortal Kombat in Smash so bad! Censored Mortal Kombat would be a perfect fit for Smash. The first game was censored on the SNES and Game Boy so there's precedent.

Scorpion's Final Smash (Fatality) can be the same... taking off his mask to reveal his skull and then breathing fire... but instead of burning to death, the opponent gets blasted off the stage. Stage Fatalities from the Mortal Kombat games can be turned into stage hazards in Smash. It's all toned down to cartoony violence.

Wait, take the Master Sword? Already? I thought it would be at least three more games before they found out that the Master Sword is an Aegis forged by the Ancients of Halcandra (you know, the same ones whose technology inspired the creation of the Metal Gears), forcing the party to cross a few dimensional tunnels to get to it.

Also, can we talk about how NO ONE seems to suspect that The End is clearly a part of the World of Darkness and that Xehanort gave one Eye of Ender to his other 12 selves so they can use it later? Good God, it's so obvious it hurts.
