Has he said anything re: the LoL leak? He said he'd look into it back at April.
That and his comments re: Koei Tecmo are interesting - the latter might be especially so since Hayabusa's a regular in the rumor mill and K-T's been consistently close to Nintendo.
Obviously I'm not going to presume either are true just yet, I'm curious.

Anyway, I'm pretty damn happy about Steve. I'm probably one of the oldest people here right now and I seriously don't understand the "Hurr zoomer game = bad" mentality. I'm boomer as **** and I love this reveal. I may not be the biggest Minecraft fan, but like:
Smash IS a celebration of gaming, and, yeah, Minecraft's like, THE best selling game of all time, kinda makes ****ing sense to include it alongside the likes of Pac Man, Pong(Kinda), and Tetris(Sadly only music, why no stage?).
Though, I can't say I'm a fan of a certain conspiracy theory going around that "Steve was supposed to be our FIRST E3 character, and a certain other character was supposed to close us out", which seems to be spreading like wildfire right now, for no real reason whatsoever outside the usual conspiracy.

What I think is more interesting is that speculation just blows up and now literally anything is possible. Literally, we don’t know which is the direction of this fighter pass. Is very difficult to connect all dots together. We first get a modest (sales-wise speaking) first party pick from a 2017 game (Min Min) and now a big western third party fighter (Steve & Alex) from on of the most playable games from past decade. So whats next ?
I hope we get some “retro” fighters, I mean, characters from IPs born in 80/90’s and even early 00’s. I know that Steve has a lot for resonance with underage kids but I hoped that Nintendo has thought of the more adults (+25) a little bit hahah.
And one more thing, I think that will all covid19 stuff, they want to reveal the fighters very closely to their release. So CP8 will be getting revealed early 2021. Something like this:
January: CP8
April: CP9
June: CP10 (E3 reveal?)
October: CP11

Interesting, so Steve at one was indeed likely plan for the base game. So that makes two for two characters that were considered/planned but could not make it into the base game. Curious to see if any of the remaining fighters are like that.

Nintendo can add the least hype characters after Steve, and the pass will still sell extremely well.
Steve is HUGE. I feel like we will see a slight return in Smash.

Considering the game had to be reworked for Steve's building mechanics to even work, I'd say that a teaser was meant for E3 while Min Min was an appetizer. Just my five cents worth.

Me either. I mean, I'm not exactly old, but a good game is a good game. Just because it's a hit with the kids doesn't mean that's all it has going for it. If it was, then Pokémon probably wouldn't be the highest grossing media franchise right now.

Yeah he’s a really crazy inclusion for the speculation scene. To me, his inclusion could hint towards several things:
- They’ll be finishing the game with some more BIG picks to end Smash Ultimate with a bang
- They were paying attention to the heavily talked about characters in late 2018/2019
- They’ll be focusing on characters from the last decade
- Some of the more heavily leaked names in 2019 were actually real. Hello, Ryu Hayabusa & DoomGuy!
Ooooor it could just be a lot of more random characters that we won’t guess lmao

I hope the next fighter will be a classic character because this pass is starting to reek of new and I hate new smell. Give me someone old, like Axel Stone! I want to do the Grand Upper on Terry and Ryu.
And people are really asking how Steve is gonna sell the ****ing pass.

Is Minecraft really "new" though?
Compared to the older fighters, yes. But Minecraft isn't that new in general though. It was released to the public in 2009, which is almost 11 years.
Pretty much - I can already see that with the new kid(s) on the block: Fall Guys / Among Us. Fall Guys became a favorite not (just) because of its cutesy nature - right place at the right time, what with being a relatively non-violent BR game that emphasized platforming. And many enjoyed that simply put.
Among Us meanwhile is a unique spin on Mafia, and likewise many enjoyed that.
That's another really interesting thing, although I believe we have to wait for the dataminers to discover what it exactly is.
Nintendo's never fully open about exact changes in balance patches etc.

I will say this is the largest release for Ultimate.
This is in Cloud, Sonic, and Snake levels of releases. Minecraft is HUGE.

For the most part, people are just upset another character they didn't want got in and are up in arms about it.
This is nothing new. The irrational hatred and insult-flinging will quiet down with time.

By the way the remix song that played during the trailer was great, I loved it, idk which theme it is based on tho.
...I guess it also depends on what you consider a classic character. For some people only characters from the 90s are classic but I'd say early 2000s can also be considered classic at this point.

my post waaaay back when we just knew about dlc that it was ridiculous to think that banjo was competing with steve for a spot, and that if they wanted banjo due to him being banjo, they would add banjo and steve, due to him being minecraft they would just add steve, so if they wanted both... well, they would add both aged well i see.
ImoBanjo and steve never really competed over a spot more than any pther character.
Still, i really wanted minecraft content in smash and im loving teh minecraft stage. i'm more neutral regarding steve... but hnestly looks like a blast to play, pacman, better move out. and personally while a little more neutral regarding steve, i never felt he was "unworthy".

Yeah, a lot of the classic characters are already in Smash, and most of the ones that aren't aren't as big of deals in modern day. Not saying that's 100% gonna stop them from being added (I mean, we've got characters like Simon, PAC-MAN, and Banjo & Kazooie), but it is a pretty decent roadblock for DLC characters without the existence of fan demand I feel.
