Y'all know the phrase "No Comment" has a varied amount of meanings right? Yes it can mean "I can't say anything NDA" or it can mean "I've said this a bunch you already know the answer" so this confirms nothing although it is definitely eyebrow raise worthy
You've got to consider how Suda normally responds to questions like this, where he is always keen to appeal to fans as far as asking for Travis. Or at least saying Travis isn't included. He's even brought up Travis in Smash when it had nothing to do with the topic at hand.

I agree for another dev it wouldn't mean all that much, but given Suda's candidness, this is a definite departure from his normal response, and therefore it is a little suspicious.

Especially when he has gone on record saying something like "in the next game, I will hunt Sakurai down, and I will not take no for an answer!"

...OK maybe not that severe, but pretty close.

Oh boy, can’t wait for Travis Touchdown to get into Super Smash Bros Ultimate.........

As a Spirit in this week’s Energy Sword theme Spirit Event!

........or maybe a Mii Swordsfighter costume.

Has he given an honest answer after around fall of last year? If so it means nothing, if not, then it could mean that No More Heroes is getting something.

EDIT: If it's a Spirit Event, we'll see it much later, if it's a Mii Costume or a Fighter, it would probably be with the next Fighter, or the one after that.
The latest comment from Suda that I've been able to find regarding Travis in Smash is around the time of E3 last year. Here's what he had to say:
Suda51 said:
Obviously I knew that Travis wasn't going to be able to be in Smash Bros. this time, but I feel just like a lot of the fans. Even though I knew it wasn't going to happen, I was still really disappointed to actually see, "Okay, so it's actually not happening." So there's a bit of disappointment.

Going back in the conversation: if there were to be.a Nintendo vs Capcom game done in that style that would mean approx 15 vs 15 playable characters evenly split between the two companies. What 30 players you got?

And partly as a result of the current topic (as well as talk about some companies who are less brought up), I have an addendum on the whole companies and how likely they feel (since I missed some and 3BitSaurus mentioned them):

GungHo: I'm counting NMH and Grasshopper Manufacture under this umbrella since Suda's still (at least technically) under them, although Suda operates rather independent of GungHo. Travis does have the favor if needed, so that's a major boon. GungHo's other IPs (Puzzle and Dragons chief amongst them) are more in background. Pretty high up.

Konami: Yea as said previously, I don't see them having a good chance. They have quite a few classic characters on the table still, but nothing clear-cut. Lower half.

Ubisoft: Has a couple characters still on the table, the most notable being the Prince of Persia. However, the negotiations surrounding Rayman have not yielded a playable character (so far at least) and Altair's Mii costume was introduced to the tune of Ezio's theme. By the looks of it, things have stalled. Lower half.

Nippon Ichi: The Disgaea guys? Could kinda see that, although (I was so tempted to make a F1 joke based on their logo and name) N1 only have them really. Would need Sakurai's favor IMHO. Middle-lower half.

Marvelous: Story of Seasons is a major boon to them. Rune Factory 5 and Daemon X Machina helps them quite a lot too. Still, they're in some stiff competition, and would appriciate Sakurai's favor. Decently high.

Cygames: Maaaaaybe? They have Granblue, the Nintendo connection in Dragalia and idolmaster, so they have some stuff. However, Cygames weren't exactly happy with Nintendo's involvement re: Dragalia, so any FP2 appearance would have to be counter-balanced by a more positive factor. Lower half.

From Software: Eeeh? Could see them, but it's mostly Dark Souls' protagonist. Still though, that's a major character by itself, so one shouldn't count FromSoft out. TIL that From Software and Spike Chunsoft are cousin companies under the Kadokawa conglomerate, so one could theoretically put both in the same box. Middle of the list.

EA: Doesn't stand much of a chance. EA has a surprisingly strong list of characters... but the company's history and how they got / handled said characters leave a sour taste in many mouths. OK, Konami's also handled their characters badly, but EA's been associated with it for much longer. Near the bottom of my list.

Sony: Nope. Nintendo and Sony are still rather cold towards each other, and IMO it'll take at least some more time until Nintendo's behind-the-back move towards Phillips / betrayal heals. Bottom of the list.

SNK: Nope. They went all out with Terry. Bottom of the list.

Not India, Indies!: A vast collection here, although indies do not have precendence with them. However, there's still enough to make up a sizeable shot - Reimu and Quote in particular. Highly up, contending for Top 5 IMHO.

Considered Taito, but they're under Square-Enix. If counted as their own company, would be "Nope" because the Space Invaders and Bubble Bobble have to compete with S-E's roster and neither of those strike me as primary DLC candidates.

So, amended list:

  1. Nintendo (And I rate the chance of another first party as ca. 25 -30 %)
  2. Capcom
  3. Koei Tecmo
  4. Microsoft
  5. SEGA
  6. GungHo (Incl. Suda / Grasshopper)
  7. Indies
  8. Tencent
  9. Marvelous
  10. ASW
  11. Activision (- Blizzard, Blizzard would rank just above Bethesda by themselves)
  12. From Software
  13. Spike Chunsoft
  14. Level 5
  15. Nippon Ichi
  16. Disney
  17. Falcom
  18. Ubisoft
  19. Cygames
  20. Bandai-Namco
  21. Valve
  22. Konami
  23. EA
  24. Bethesda
  25. Sony
  26. SNK

Suda is the one dev that if he said he was going to stalk Sakurai, I'd believe him.
That... sounds like a plot point coming from a anime made 100 years or so in the future. About the making of SSBU.

I'm not sure what to make of that mental image.

So Far, it's not really confirmed who the Supporting cast is

There's Fu, the Alien dude. Shinobou and Henry will Very likely come back. Destoyman (for a 3rd time) and Kimmy Howell are supposed to also come back (with new designs).

If they did a whole Spirit event, they likley use NMH1 or NMH2

I can't believe the second Fighter Pass was leaked in its entirety during the NX reveal event! It was so obvious!

  • ARMS
  • Xenoblade 2
  • No More Heroes
  • Shin Megami Tensei V
  • 1-2 Switch
  • And last but not least, FIRE EMBLEM WARRIORS
Honestly even jokingly, I'd be fairly content with this pass aside from 1-2 Switch getting... idk a ****ing Joycon?

The game is not out but they could make a sizable event out of NMH 1 2 and TSA

-Travis Touchdown
-Henry Cooldown
-Shinobu Jacobs
-Sylvia Crystal
-Badman

Unrelated:
I would like Travis but they will censor the best song (Naughty words in this one be warned) and that makes me sad

Watch Travis be Season Pass 2's equivalent to Terry.
I don't think that's entirely accurate when Travis is a semi-regularly discussed character close to Nintendo while Terry was a complete left-fielder until the leak who, while having some history with Nintendo, wasn't overly close to them.

the more comparable to terry character would be Axel honestly

Honestly... This is pretty notable.

Suda's always been gung-ho for Smash. Even recently, he was going on about how he'd love it.

To see him suddenly speak corporate non-committal jargon is.... a monumental change.

Travis is in Smash in some form. I can't see any other scenario where Suda of all people just... stops being Suda.

You know...

Timing could be everything here.

When did Suda stop being gung ho about Smash? Depending on when he switched over to corporate speak, we could have an idea on when any decisions were made and thus potentially predict what kind of role Travis may have.

Honestly, Travis Touchdown for FP7 and Monster Hunter for FP8 seems plausible at the moment.

It is nearly impossible to predict what will happen next, but this is a good guess.

We found a quote from him where he was asked if Travis was in Smash, and he said "no comment." Seeing as he's always been open on whether or not Travis was in Smash, this is definitely eyebrow-raising.
Oh! Sweet! That does indeed bode well for Travis which is nice because he is a very cool character.

Though, when was this quote found? Was it 2018 or was it late 2019-2020?

Where is this "comment" and when was it made?
Please answer quickly. Unlike me, my boy Ridley doesn't like waiting.:ridleyhat:
Here's the post, now please call off the alien death dragon.

This strikes me as interesting as this is a very different answer than what Suda usually gives when asked about Smash. He's usually honest with saying that Travis isn't in the game. I wonder what changed.

As the above post says, it happened at Gamescom 2019, so in late August. That's after we suspect the pass was finalized, so this is definitely pretty suspicious.

I wonder why that official tourney thing was exclusive to japan for awhile
I'm not sure if that means anything to newcomers

Off-topic, but the number of mains you have are crazy. Are they even mains at this point?
Travis touchdown would be awesome, Plus we are supposed to get NMH3 in 2021
Agreed! Travis's chances increased a significant amount I would say.
